Already tried it back in 2012. Remember? Google got a huge amount of flack for that and pulled out.

i wish

Can't the chinese just make their own search engine?

cringe

they already have their own search engines, dumbo.

lmao china don't want that shit. they want to control your data

Will migrate elsewhere if this happens.

This is an attempt for google to gain a portion of that huge market, not about the chinese needing a search engine. They've already got a massive one, baidu.

The same way Google "migrated elsewhere" in 2010 when the Chinese government told them to comply with local laws or gtfo?
Just like Google, you'll go crawling back.

Why would they allow google to compete with other chinese companies on their home soil?
Do they have to?

Knowing the Chinese they won't

Being overly restrictive can cause societal unrest. So providing the option, while still going "baidu is sooooo much better anyways" goes a long way in preventing that. This isn't including any financial deals going on.

they already are, baidu. it's a huge shit.

Interesting, currently Google.cn is just a image that redirects you to the Hong Kong version

Bing already does the same. It's quite surreal when a benign search comes up with zero results.

And now they're trying it again. We knew they would.
China will see how the Google search engine is deployed, then reverse engineer it, copy it, rebadge it as their own, then kick Google out. Is there any doubt of this?

China wont allow it.
If you know how google became what it is today you would know that everything done on google services goes straight to NSA servers.

Can you blame them?

Did they really think we'd forget that quickly about the last time?

Google refused to censor for the Chinese government back in then. Notice how their motto isn't "don't be evil" anymore? IIRC it's "do the right thing*" now.

*whatever gets you the most money/customer data/etc

>China will see how the Google search engine is deployed, then reverse engineer it, copy it, rebadge it as their own, then kick Google out.
They already did. It's called Baidu.
