That's an Optiplex, not a workstation.

i want to marry optiplex-chan

3-4 optiplex in a table in a scalable setup have a cyberpunk feel

I recently bought a Thinkstation S20 to play vidya and do virtual shenanigans and I think it works great with 12GiB of RAM and the W3550, but I feel the GPU is shit (AMD Sapphire HD5450)

what vidya can it play?

I can run Fallout New Vegas in 50ish-60 FPS with medium graphics and CSGO is shitting the bed now, prolly cause of the graphical updates it has. Haven't tried anything like GameCube emulation yet. Overall if the CPU was upgraded and it had a better GPU, it could soar a lot higher than it is now.

You can emulate Gamecube in a Thinkpad X200.

What should i go for if i basically want the cheapest overwatch machine?

PS4

I have an hp elitedesk sff with i5 4570 and 16gb ram, slapped a low profile 1050 4gb ti in there and works like a charm

so much for pc gaming huh?
i already have a ps4
and it will be getting games for another 4-5 years anyway with out a several hundred dollar upgrade

That's not an exceptionally powerful CPU by today's standards, but it certainly is no slouch. That chip is being really badly bottlenecked by the GPU, which is indeed total shit. Even if you picked up a used R7 265 for around $50-$70 (yes you can get them this cheap because they're worthless to miners), you'd see a massive improvement; it would be at least 10 times faster, and that is no exaggeration. I would say to get a new CPU, but frankly what you have is enough. Your single-core performance is better than a Xeon X5650, which seems to be Jow Forums's new favourite scrapyard special. So the W3550 is actually probably a little better suited to gaming.

t. running an E3-1225 v3 with an R7 265, pretty decent at being a mid-range gaming rig.

pls

You mean a old desktop with decent gpu thrown it wouldn't be good?

i want a dell xeon workstation that can be turned into an occasional pubg machine
god i wish i had money

why specifically a dell xeon

I used an old Optiplex with a second gen Core i3 for a couple years because I was poor. I installed a cheap graphics card.

It worked pretty well. I'd say if you can get a quad core i5 and more than 4GBs of RAM it'll do well if you also get a graphics card for it.

because they seem to be priced less than HP ones and have higher specs than lenovo ones

You'll probably be able to emulate most Gamecube games fine, but Wii games need a higher clock speed than 3.3Ghz in my experience.

How good would you think one like this would be for say overwatch and pubg if i put in a gtx 750 or something seems like a pretty good prize

No but I can turn a gayman PC into an old workstation :^)

Chuck in a 1050ti, might have to cut the chassis a bit of you have small form factor

I like this thread.
I am looking to buy something similar a Lenovo thinkstations S30 with E5-1620v2 processor 320gb sata drive and 4 gigs of RAM for 250$. I don't know if I should haggle the price down or this is it's actual price.
Will this rig work with a 1050ti? Should I go for it?
