But I am using Windows.

Eh...? That's not very Jow Forums of you user!

Because it's botnet.

manjaro just werks better and is comfier

But this is the Technology board, not the fat NEETs do hacker larping with GNU/Linux board.

n-no it isn't!

How? Doesn't include Amazon botnet anymore

>those nasty roastie crackwhore added repos
Why not just use Arch?

>Why not just use Arch?
arch makes installing gentoo look easy

I like Ubuntu, but it's not the only distro I use by any means.

I've started using Ubuntu again. I don't care anymore. I install i3/emacs/chromium and call it a day. Fuck your ricing. All my computers have identical setups without the pain of creating my own custom image and keeping it updated.

justwerks is bad because every line of code in your os may be a virus

>arch makes installing gentoo look easy
Literal retard detected, it's as easy as partitioning, using pacstrap to put all the base packages and system shit onto your root partition, and setting up your bootloader. Anyone with 2 seconds of terminal experience can do it with ease

Attached: 1503859583036.png (361x426, 256K)

I like it, but the main problem is the performance; the UI is very laggy and choppy on my computer.

So it looks like I have to use the KDE equivalent instead.

Attached: 2000px-Kubuntu_logo.svg.png (2000x2000, 130K)

Why yes, I am using Fedora. Thanks for asking.

Elevated being

but i am, on my laptops
i really like it!

win7 on desktop G4M1NG pc tho...
hopefully linux gaming start working before i haveto switch away from w7...

>has bad performance
>so he uses kde instead

Attached: DKnzly.jpg (539x480, 66K)

But I am! 16.04 Ubuntu Unity

It has drivers for the printers that I use so no, Manjaro does not just work.

Yeah, Gnome 3 is that bad.

I recommend dual booting so you get the best of both worlds on the same PC!

i do not like the name

gnome 3 is a train wreck

>yes I use oogabooga
to be honest it probably has negatively effected the distro's reputation somewhat

>tfw gtk still doesn't have an image picker

Attached: 1503860178300.jpg (168x192, 6K)

KDE runs at a consistent 60fps about 99% of the time. If the GNOME devs could achieve the same performance, I'd be on there yesterday. I like what GNOME is doing design wise (and I know I might be called a "Redditor" or a "onions enthusiast" for that here but I don't care), but apparently the shell is single-threaded and performance-wise that seems to be hurting the experience for many people.

Really? That's news to me! I might consider giving it another shot, but last time I tried KDE, the desktop experience was such a fucking mess I turned 360 degrees and walked away from the computer

>turned 360 degrees
the absolute state of gnome users

But I am.

>being this new

But this is unironically the case. I installed stock ubuntu on some older laptops and the ui lagged like hell. I put on some other DEs and KDE works perfectly.

GNOME.

>he can't into installing a new de

This is GNU/Linux board, if you don't like it

Ubuntu is good, but my favorite is Kubuntu.

in my opinion KDE 5 has made Linux finally ready for the desktop, it is perfect

[[[UBUNTU HAS RUN INTO A SYSTEM ERROR]]]

What is the best distro for long term stability?

I Just want to set things up and not have to reinstall anything or have anything break for 4 or 5 years.

What did you think Jow Forums stands for if not GNU?

Easily Debian

Because it doesn't have Unity anymore! Gnome is a shit

You can still install Unity from the universe repo!

I'm using it with i3 cos I hate the look of gnome. Love the fact that it works out of the box too.

The most annoying thing is that I installed 18.04LTS which doesn't have a lot of packages yet, so I had to compile a lot of stuff from source for my setup. Ironically I did more work than if I had just installed manjaro.

But apt > pacman for repos so idgaf (yes, even including the AUR)

LMAO enjoy your inferior -buntu faggot , everybody in 2018 knows Lubuntu is the superior Linux distro.

Attached: b.jpg (1366x768, 99K)

It must be because I'm not a brainlet and I know how to install a real OS.

What's the point of using Linux over a windows desktop or an iPad?

That looks like fucking ass

Attached: 1503889776522.jpg (176x137, 13K)

Can't tell if summerfag or bait, but a few key reasons

a) muh freedums
b) Linux gives you a lot of power over your system which is fantastic for power users
c) Superior productivity because no games and a very customizable workflow
d) It's just plain fun to tinker with

>Coming from a guy that likes anime

Attached: a.jpg (300x190, 29K)

I'm thinking of installing Linux on my laptop, never tried it before

The only good version of Ubuntu is Ubuntu server.
I use Slackware.

anime website, maybe reddit might be more to your liking?

Attached: ceaCZvl.gif (306x150, 232K)

This. At least use fucking KDE.

No, he meant that Arch is misleading to people that wanna install Gentoo.

I was happy about the gnome change since I use gnome anyway, but fucking hell it's literally an obtusely configured gnome that works worse out of the box than Ubuntu gnome 17.10 did

First off, GNU/Linux.
Second off, try something systemdless. I would suggest Void for beginners.

That's a stretch of an assumption

I like to assume people aren't retarded, sometimes it be true though.

Don't listen to this man, he is just trying to get you to hate linux.

What the hell? Void is good, are you retarded?

KDE was shit for a long time... , but now it get better both in terms performance and in terms of user experience at every update, that's why KDE Neon is the recommended choice (you get updates more often)

>implying I don't

Attached: Fedora_logo.png (720x720, 31K)

user it runs like butter in comparison

Any reason why I should update from 16.04?

TechnoloGEE

Not for beginners, are you retarded?

Would Ubuntu run well on my thinkpad x220? or should I go with manjaro?

A fucking foot

Get Kubuntu, or Xubuntu. Manjaro would work fine too, especially the Xfce version.

I am. Xubuntu is great.

>I would suggest Void for beginners.

Autism. the post

Back then it was for Guro, now it stands for ぎじゅつ (gijutsu).

being THIS new

It's simple to install. That's all a beginner needs.
They don't need Ubuntu level coddling, just an easy installation process.

Install Ubuntu.

Too bad Lubuntu is dead.

I just went back to Xubuntu myself. Mainly because I want to generate deepdream pictures and good fucking luck installing the dependencies in any other distro. Feelsgoodman

Pal, the void install is not simple compared to mint, ubuntu, or hell even manjaro. No one should be using void as their first distro. And it's not just the ease of install, the amount of support and documentation is just so much more for ubuntu. If the new user has any problems, they are almost certain to find the answer with a quick google search. There is just less available for void.

I'd rather eat shit.

I'm way to comfy using arch

kubuntu is alright

Ubuntu: Telementry spyware and mobile looking OS...
Yeah doesn't sound comfy

this

>tfw you will never experience your first distro again.

bloat

>what the fuck is a minimal install

That as well. For 3d work getting all the deps in order is miles easier in Ubuntu.

I do, it's called Linux Mint. Fuck ricing.

Using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS until KDE Neon updates to 18.04 LTS
I don't like GNOME, it is very resource heavy for whatever reason

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-08-03 13-34-57.png (1366x768, 1023K)

get a cheap ssd and install linux on it and use as daily driver. only boot to windows for gaymin. no risk of fucking up windows and your 500gb of steam downloads.

But I am.

did you install gnome-session? default gnome instead of ubuntu "edits"

>Gijutsu
Keep in mind this is a weebsite.

>He doesn't know that Kubuntu or Xubuntu don't include that.
>He doesn't know that it's opt-in anyway.

But I am

>Why isn't Jow Forums using the superior, comfy, /justwerks/ distro?
I only ever tried to install Ubuntu once. 17.10. It did the exact opposite of justwerk. It kernel panicked after about 40 minutes of absolutely sluggish use on my brand new high end Ryzen build. I then installed manjaro, which not only worked and worked better, but gave me access to the AUR which saved me from PPA hell in getting all the softwares I needed.
TL;DR Ubuntu is the 30yo boomer of justwerks Linux, manjaro is the new frontrunner imo.

do a minimal installation with the ubuntu iso
HEY LOOK, THIS FAGGOT CAN'T INSTALL ARCH SO HE INSTALLS A BROKEN TOY OS.
HMMHJAHHAHAHHNAHAHNAMAGAHANAAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAH *breaths* HAHAHHAHAHHAJAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHAHHAHAHAHHHHAHAH

... Ubuntu is not variation of ubuntu. Ubuntu is ubuntu. Every ubuntu after 10.10 has been shit.

Kubuntu and Ubuntu mate actually are good

>broken toy OS
>recommends Ubuntu
Better post your desktop, Jamal.

No, thanks for the heads up

you can also change the gdm login theme back to gnome default if you dont like the purple. itsfoss.com/vanilla-gnome-ubuntu/

sudo update-alternatives --config gdm3.css

>not using xenial
lmao at your toy DE
