pre-smartphone internet is a subset of current internet. basically you're just a faggot who likes to complain.

It's only you

Smart phones bring dumb people. If 4ch auto banned phone posters it would be a better world.

ikr XD

You mean before 2007? The internet had gone to shit long before that.

So much less bloaty

That one hurt, user.

I know what you mean.
It seems that it was only a few years ago that knowledgeable people were prevalent if you did a bit of looking beyond popular social media, but now, even the niche hobby forums are about on par with Yahoo answers.
Did all the smart people leave the internet after the year 2016?

The non-white population is exponentially outpacing the white population. Average IQs in Western countries are dropping every year.

If we hit 84, I worry our economy will collapse.

At least the kikes won't be able to profit from us any longer at such a point.

That still doesn't explain what happened to all the intellect online, though.

yeah internet went to shit when smartphones and social media exploded in 2007, bringing the massive amount of stupid people that represent the majority of the population on internet

Yes because, smartphones are cheap, have an easy GUI, and just werk, plus at that time the social media concept blew up. Normies invaded, internet destroyed.

you mean pre-Web2.0 internet, right?

Needs a new panel with brainlet wojak and onions. It's rather impressive how low can this imageboard get.

Internet was always shit.

Doesn't even have the before & after project chanology change. By far the most cancerous and destructive event in Jow Forums history and it happened in the first 5 years. Definitely pre-2011 was more than that.

Attached: 2007.jpg (3335x1403, 1.09M)

>Doesn't even have the before & after project chanology change
How would you represent it in the image?

SImply put - yes, a lot.

Pre-Web 2.0 Internet was actually pretty usable on a smartphone. At the time smartphones were for nerds and businessmen.

2011 was when you could start to see the quality drop. By 2013 it was in freefall.

it's not you. even the same people are different because they have to type on a touchscreen instead of a keyboard. it's a lower bandwidth interface and bottlenecks every interaction.

t. phoneposting hypocrite

half of these had nothing to do with 2007

I always thought javascript would finally be abolished and everyone will be happy and HTML4 strict while such atrocities as flash or watching a media file in a browser instead of downloading it to a dedicated application would slowly but surely die out.
>tfw making node apps these days

comfy

It was definitely more diverse. Ever since women and minorities got smartphones discussions on the internet shifted from all kinds of nerdy subjects to social justice issues. The worst we got in the 2000s was if the Iraq was was justified or not.

>watching a media file in a browser instead of downloading it to a dedicated application would slowly but surely die out.

Why would you want something like that? It sounds inconvenient as fuck.

Exponentially more damaged dopamine circuits. Get off facebook and pornhub.

Facebook did it.
It created another, much more retarded internet culture with real names.

Back in 2003-2007 everything else seemed to be a dirty and viciously slow solution that only could be made worse by using a java applet instead.

desu is love, desu is life

Never used facebook and I've only looked at 2D porn since 2009.

It shouldn't. The generations must have distinct endings. Even if people remain through multiple, the cycle is still a distinct cycle.

Oh well and also it was easier to download stuff that way. Nowadays everything works fine in the browser but you have to learn a new trick every 1/2 year to be able to find the more or less downloadable media in the browsers debugging console

The last time internet was good was before www was invented
member livejournal? or soc.*?

>member livejournal
It was the Tumblr of its time.

The most surprising thing is that Google now gives worse result. I could have predicted many kinds of decline of the Web, but not this.
>Nowadays everything works fine in the browser but you have to learn a new trick every 1/2 year to be able to find the more or less downloadable media in the browsers debugging console
True enough.

100 IQ is always the median and since it's calculated with a normal distribution 100 will also always be the average. Not that I'd expect a race baiter like you to understand.

Just ignore idiots that dont know how to read statistics. We get them on /sci/ a lot.

It was OP. The minute everyone started to optimize for 4 inch screens and imprecise thumb touch input, the web became presented in a hideous way, even if the actual content was there.

Except for sites with user content, the smartphones brought normies in like EternalSeptember2.0

>Falling for the IQ meme.

what's the difference except more dumb people (though nowhere near as bad as what happened after myspace and facebook got popular) and you occasionally get linked to a shitty mobile version of a website?

this, so much this

Smartphones were the best thing to happen to the internet, its social media that ruined it. Now everyone is connected, everyone is free to join a discussion online. I want the old days were the only discussion online were on forums or irc, back then you actually talked to relevant people and normies didn't exist to pester the community.

>pre-smartphone internet is a subset of current internet.
Are you literally retarded?

Good old UOL (Universo Online), started as kind of a Brazilian knockoff of AOL, became a news website and some sort of third rate content agregator and now became a cesspit of SJW """journalists""" fresh out of college and houses one of the most cancerous communities in the entire Brazilian internet which uses some sort of Java-coded abomination of a backend because they didn't want to use phpBB.

They are worse than ironic weebs, actually.

That's what literally every generation says when they get older. That's the same kind of thing boomers have been saying about stuff from when we were young, and that's the same kind of thing pre-boomers were saying when the boomers were young.

Objectively not true

This. Google search is almost unusable when searching for something that has to do with consumer products. All the hits are sites selling the product, having a paid review of the product or they're some crap click bait zero-content pages (you know those "you searched for X, here's our users ratings on the X. You're welcome, pls click the adds"). Really hard to find the honest non-paid specialist answers.

Maybe you got what I'm meaning.

iCarly is good though.

To be fair he was sort of murdered by them for telling them the truth shortly after that. Just because people have been saying it for a very long time doesn't mean it isn't true.

mobile devices improved internet by killing off flash,
optimizing pages by removing bloat/obnoxious ads
removing js that cant run on overheating, throttled, underpowered devices,
responsive, adaptive designs for a variety of aspect ratios and resolutions

its much better now.

what is worse is the state sponsored shilling/psyops/viral marketing that has subsumed any semblance of real culture

It's only a coincidence.

The further back you go, the less crowded it was on the Internet.

"Unironically"?

There are more normies. Normies don't have to be into tech, but average normie is dumb and sub-100 iq. Youtube is basically television for zoomers. Also it's harder to find "serious" information on any given subject nowadays.

Few years ago I was a huge advisor of the internet, but nowadays I actually find better information in books. Internet became the new place for politics, celebrity gossip and "top 10 secret hacks samsung wants to hide from you" with a click-bait picture of a paper clip being inserted into headphone jack.

Also I double major and I got humanities experience. People who take journalism and English (or your local counterpart) are literal retards, hence the plummeting level of internet journalism. Furthermore, I usually have a feeling these people have no clue on the subjects they write on. (unlike the old web, where people were writing to share information, not for clicks).

Y'all a bunch of pansies that need to get off your 4channel safe space. The internet was always terrible.

>imageboard have this doll hysteria again

>pre-smartphone internet is a subset of current internet. basically you're just a faggot who likes to complain.
95% of all the old vbulletin and the like forums I used to visit are gone now.

>they understand how IQ works but not how it's used
The fact that 100 is average by definition doesn't preclude the existence of trends, else things like
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flynn_effect
would be impossible. Maybe don't talk about statistics if you've no real world understanding of them.

The Internet was better before ratings. You could find factual/useful information easily and not just popular opinion. There was no competition for the most likes or upvotes. Most companies saw the Internet as a fad and didn't hire people just to shill their products or political agendas.
Jow Forums is a bastion of the old Internet, even with the influx of redditors, because it has no rating system

You can still isolate themselves from them. Even a small technical barrier to entry (for example, having to install a client) helps a lot.

>the same kind of thing pre-boomers were saying when the boomers were young
And, for once, the were absolutely fucking right. Boomers ruined civilization.

Get your ancient copypasta right.

If you stay away from identity whoring sites you don't run into that problem. Stay on IRCs/imageboards.

It seems like there is some middle ground not covered by either imageboards or IRC. Something that is image-centric, more multimedia than IRC, has posts you can reply to out of order, but also easy board creation like IRC channels. I am aware of Slack, Discord, etc., but they force the user to have a persistent identity.

>When IQ tests are revised, they are again standardized using a new sample of test-takers, usually born more recently than the first. Again, the average result is set to 100.
>However, when the new test subjects take the older tests, in almost every case their average scores are significantly above 100. Test score increases have been continuous and approximately linear from the earliest years of testing to the present.
So to recap: the average IQ will always be 100 (like I said), and even if you were to compare with historical tests IQ is increasing (in direct opposition with what that poster claimed).
What about statistics am I not understanding again?

I didnt live the golden age of UOL culture but i have an forum account anyways and the people at least seem to still be quite banterful, if you ignore the natural internet brazilian cancerousness.

Telegram seem to be the closest to that, especially because it doesn't tie your account to your phone number or devices like WhatsApp.

I assume you're talking about the niche boards like the videogames and sports ones?

VT has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It astonishes me how a place could gather the worst elements of Jow Forums, Jow Forums, bodybuilding.com and Jow Forums and makes it even worse by throwing post rating, garbage UI and usernames with all the circlejerking and attwhoring that accompanies it, into the mix.

>Research suggests that there is an ongoing reversed Flynn effect, i.e. a decline in IQ scores, in Norway, Denmark, Australia, Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, France and German-speaking countries,[4] a development which appears to have started in the 1990s.[5][6][7][8]
hmmmm

Well the internet used to not be cool before that.
The first iPhone marked when the internet was cool for everyone to use, and especially to children.
So of course it degenerated. I don't know why popular things become worse but the attitude I see now is a lot less attractive than it used to be.

The Internet was cool before, if not for long.
