>State the budget & CURRENCY for your build
>List your uses - e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work
>For monitors, include purpose (e.g. photo editing, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)
>Don't use Speccy, you retard. Use HWinfo, SIV, etc.

Overclocking
>Use PBO on Ryzen. Legacy overclocking is defunct on Ryzen 2#00X CPUs. youtube.com/watch?v=FC3fsVk9Sss

CPUs
>R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming (dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc.
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

Motherboards
>Only Z300 series Intel boards can utilize fast memory

RAM
>8GB - Enough for most gaming use
>16GB - Standard for heavy use
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this much
>Current CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal

Graphics cards
1080p
>RX 570/580 /w Freesync or 1060 6GB are standard 1080p 60fps+ options
>1050Ti or RX560 for lower settings 1080p, or older games
>GTX 1070Ti/Vega 56 if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match
1440p
>Vega 56 /w Freesync, 1070Ti if you already have Gsync
>GTX 1080Ti if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match
2160p(4K)
>Titan V
OpenCL work
>Vega 64

Storage
>Consider StoreMi
>Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard

Monitors
>Always consider FreeSync with AMD cards
>Lock to 72fps on 144hz non-Gsync monitors with Nvidia cards to prevent tearing on more demanding games
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING

My first build. Is this good or am I completely retarted.

Also has anyone used these thermal pads? Seems like a good alternative from what I've gathered.

Even the B450M Mortar is fine, if you're more concerned with saving money than tinkering features. It has a solid VRM and good RAM compatibility, and you can update the BIOS without a CPU which is a crazy nice feature to have for the future.

>pcpartpicker.com/list/X2qMTB
>H100i
Sucks. It's thin, only 240mm instead of 280, the fans it comes with are shit, etc.
>case
There are better options in the price range, like Meshify C.
>970 Evo
There is no way you do any work which makes use of this. Retarded in a gaming build.

Rest seems decent enough.

Alright, I'm going to pull the trigger tomorrow.
Everything looking good on here, lads?
This is everything, right?

I'm planning to build a TR 2950X system soon, what kind of cooler do I need to get it somewhat silent on medium load?

Haven't built a PC for about 8 years, so don't really have a clue. Are these massive coolers still a thing?

Is water cooling recommended? I don't really want to spend a lot of time on maintenance etc. though.

wait for AMD to launch the Wraith Ripper. They showed it off at Computex cooling a 32 core Threadripper 2990X.

better than Intel needing a literal refrigerator to cool a 28 core.

>Wraith Ripper
What, since when have AMD or Intel been releasing usable coolers? This is highly surprising.

pics?

>cpu with igpu when you buy gpu anyways
>shit mobo
Does ddr3 even work with that?

how is x5675 for budget build?

AMD has been doing it since they launched the original Wraith Cooler for the FX chips. And now the stock coolers AMD supplys are quality to use and you can even overclock on them.

tomshardware.com/news/intel-28-core-processor-5ghz-motherboard,37213.html

Intel has never released usable stock coolers.

AMD has been releasing quality stock coolers with first gen ryzen launch

How is this Jow Forums? Trying to stay under $500.

The stealth is trash tier though

is this fucking bait?

>No SSD
For the same price SSD only offers 240gbs
gtx 1060 6gb should work well enough for my needs
If I wanted max graphics for every upcoming game I would spend more but if it ever comes to that I'll upgrade
...ddr3 doesn't work with it???

why no razen ?

is this 2012

Hardly, see here

this is terrible. change all of it.

pcpartpicker.com/list/3sYZzY

Nope, not at all
I know it's not top of the line
I'm just checking if everything will work for this set up or if I fucked up somewhere
this person mentioned ddr3 might not work with it for instance

>87 degrees is fine
Also 4ghz is literally nothing

No, DDR4 is necessary

Video card from old pc that just broke is the only thing I didn't really need to replace.

... Can't believe I missed that
Thank you
Anything else I should take note of or fix here or was that the only issue?

Attached: 1511586755706.jpg (289x166, 16K)

what video card is it?

for $500 get something like this then:
pcpartpicker.com/list/2Fd7pG

and just re-use your old video card.

I've never used anything but an intel stock cooler.

It's a stress test you brainlet, of course it's fine

I got a question guys.

I have a custom built pc that's been acting up recently, but I cannot for the life of me seem to figure out what is causing it. I know for certain it's a hardware issue, but I can't seem to figure out if it's the cpu, or motherboard
The computer basically turns itself on and off at complete random. Though usually never staying on for more than several minutes. It'll turn itself on anywhere from intervals of an hour to seconds. I had this problem before previously, but it went away when I moved apartments and I assumed maybe it was just humidity causing a short. I thought maybe that might've been the case this time, so I tried to dry it out with a dehumidifier for several weeks in an enclosed room.
Update:

I just drove to best buy today to buy a new psu, and it's still boot looping and turning itself on and off at random intervals.

What's the best monitor size?

Surely at some point it gets annoying moving your eyes around a big monitor.

>of course it's fine
If you want your cpu to die in a year sure

make sure the cpu power is connected securely. i had a similar problem and found my cpu power connector was very slightly loose.

What are the best black/minimalistic looking cases right now with a window? I was a big fan of the Define R4 but it looks like they're out of production? I remember liking Phanteks cases as well

Buying from AMD is antisemitic.

Geforce gtx 960 4mb. What's so great about ryzen 5?

Thanks for the help yesterday guys, just blew $2,200 on muh PC, I'm excited.
I need last minute recommendations for quality SSDs if you dont mind.
Preferably 250-500GB

>want IPS monitor for lack of corner glow
>max 60 Hz
>still has corner glow
>expensive
Yeah I think I'll save my money and get a regular monitor

Attached: 1533356444522.jpg (262x206, 9K)

You can't overclock the CPU on A320, look for a B350/B450 board, a 2x4GB 2666+MHz kit (can be overclocked higher), a dual fan 1060 and make sure that HDD is new before buying.

I run dual 24" 1440p monitors and it seems ideal. I can't quit dual monitors and I love the pixel density of 1440p on 24".

Samsung 850 or 860 EVO.

if all you do is games then a 500gb m.2 sata drive can be had for cheap

Thanks.

How's this looking?
pcpartpicker.com/list/VRGFKB

Probably replacing the CPU with a 2950X, cooler with Wraith Ripper and maybe the GPU with next gen Nvidia if they come out in the next month or two.

Is matching up RAM still a thing? Was planning to start with 16G but upgrade later.

it's colossally faster than that 8350. i'm not exaggerating either. 6 cores 12 threads. if you were to ever upgrade your graphics card in a couple years you'd be seeing like 100 fps more with ryzen 5 than with that 8350.

>Is matching up RAM still a thing?
yes
Also. Ryzen tends to be very picky about ram because of how the architecture works. check the motherboard QVL
Also, look into the VRMs. The 2950X will be a 16 core monster.
and get a heavier duty power supply. AMD Ryzen may be more efficient and have better performance/watt than Intel, but the Threadripper chips can still suck down power. There's 16 cores to feed.

go for faster b-die ram and get a better 1080 ti. ftw3 is great.

Alright, so what could I lower on that build you gave me because my limit is exactly $500? Maybe a cheaper motherboard?

You're kidding right? It's an unrealistic load, temperatures under a normal load like gaming will be much lower. Read up on this

pcpartpicker.com/list/hGcsnH

you could save $50 if you just re-use your old power supply and case.

Building my first PC, any comments before I start ordering parts? Am I missing anything important?

pcpartpicker.com/list/KTHFKB

Where can I find the QVL? I googled that with the board in my list and couldn't seem to find what I was looking for.

Dude, why are you even responding to shitposting? You'll very quickly waste an hour for no good reason.

>Where can I find the QVL?
asrock.com/mb/AMD/X399 Taichi/index.us.asp#Memory

Yeah I'll take off the power supply but my old case has terrible airflow. How good is that thermaltake case?

87 is still high for a stress test. Stealth is the same shit as intels cooler just get over it.

So I already got my rig few months ago aside from monitor because things happened and I kinda forgot it until now. I'm looking for 1440p 144hz IPS monitor so XB271HU and PG279Q are the options. Is there much difference between them? I can get the Acer monitor for 600e but Asus one is 750e.

Corner glow is more about money and less about panel technology. IPS has better viewing angles and colour representation.

Switched to ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Dual-fan Dual HDMI DP 1.4
I don't want to overclock over concerns of computer longevity and the extra cooling I would need for that
How bad would it be to switch to a ddr3 motherboard and ram over ddr4? What's the general consensus on those two?
Asking m

Attached: 1510348922516.jpg (2560x1440, 1.46M)

I did, still didn't fix it. Anything you can think of besides flat out replacing the cpu and motherboard I have tried.

> How good is that thermaltake case?
not sure it just looked cool and i put it there as a placeholder for a cheap case.

what's the most I should pay for a gtx 1070 8gb oc off ebay?

>I don't want to overclock over concerns of computer longevity and the extra cooling I would need for that
nigga pc's last for ages and ages. your overclock on your processor and graphics card will last longer than their capability to play games at over 30 fps in 5-7 years time. i've been running my processor overclocked for 4 years straight and it's no nearer to dying than the day i overclocked it. you're not putting a consistent load onto it like miners or production people do when they run their cpu/gpu at 100% for months on end. your 2 hour long gaming session isn't going to make your hardware life significantly lower

Oh, and yes, the HDD is new

one swipe of the credit card and this baby is mine

rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/302825663415

~$300 maybe $350 if it's a good model but that's MSRP price and just goes to show how fucked up the current gpu market it

>implying that the Intel stock cooler can handle 4GHz
youtube.com/watch?v=qWj0ozJCZuo

>5 minutes left
have fun with your new gpu

don't post it here moron otherwise someone here will buy it

well, did you get top bid?

He cant get it with a cooler either, it's not because hes using the stock. Also what is silicon lottery

Jewish orphan bid right on 3 seconds, I didnt win.

probably an automated bid, ebay's fucking gay

STOP BUYING FRACTAL CASES

you faggots are driving the price up

My first PC build, did I miss anything important?, I'm on a 835$ budget
pcpartpicker.com/list/hQ82bX

swap the 1600 to a 2600
get a dual channel ram kit which is at least 2800mhz
you don't need to spend $35 on a wifi adapter. get one for half that price.

what mhz of ram should I be looking to pair with a 2600x and 1060 6gb?

Ideally 3200 but even with the best kit you might be unlucky and be stuck around 3k.

What's more important, RAM or an SSD?

>might not work
>might not
>MIGHT

are you a fucking retard?

an intel cpu

For me, 1080p 24', 1440p 27', 4k, 30+.
I find a 1440p at 24' is a bit hard to read text.

Just did a salvaging job for a friend, things were growing in there and I HOPE that the brown goey stuff was cola.

I should have charged more for this shit...

Attached: 1475402115686.jpg (600x600, 54K)

Attached: 1528222249083.png (1196x676, 1.05M)

>Also what is silicon lottery
Not significant enough to hamper a chip's ability to hit 4.0ghz.

>Stealth is the same shit as intels cooler just get over it.
I agree the Stealth isn't that great and can only handle a mild oc, but it's in a different league than the Intel stock cooler.

3200Mhz, 16 CAS, 16-18-18-38
3000Mhz, 15 CAS, 15-17-17-35

assuming the price is pretty much the same, which is the better choice?

Ryzen really needs dual channel ram. I'd drop the HDD for now and get a bigger ssd. 120 is gonna feel really limiting quick.

Intel

NEXT!

pcpartpicker.com/list/hd9dr6
thoughts? i don't play modern/intensive games, so some of it may be a little overkill, but we'll see

15cas 3000mhz

>amdummies

Attached: You gotta be squidding me.jpg (1250x1250, 201K)

Use an Intel system that works with both

Get the cheapest one, they have the same true latency (10.1ns)

Attached: perfrel_1920_1080_0.png (500x970, 47K)

Looks okay, swap the 1600 for the 2600, the memory for a 2800MHz CL15 kit (same price) and the H15 for the Focus G Mini
10.01ns*

Why get a B450 motherboard? See if you can get an X370 mobo.
Also as a Versa H15 owner everything is okay except for cable management, it's a fucking nightmare. You should get at least DDR4-2666 RAM too, 1st gen Ryzen chips benefit from it greatly. If you plan on emulating, stick with the 1050Ti but if not consider an RX 570.
