Overclocking
>Use PBO on Ryzen. Legacy overclocking is defunct on Ryzen 2#00X CPUs. youtube.com/watch?v=FC3fsVk9Sss
CPUs
>R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming (dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc.
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

Motherboards
>Only Z300 series Intel boards can utilize fast memory

RAM
>8GB - Enough for most gaming use
>16GB - Standard for heavy use
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this much
>Current CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal

Graphics cards
1080p
>RX 570/580 /w Freesync or 1060 6GB are standard 1080p 60fps+ options
>1050Ti or RX560 for lower settings 1080p, or older games
>GTX 1070Ti/Vega 56 if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match
1440p
>Vega 56 /w Freesync, 1070Ti if you already have Gsync
>GTX 1080Ti if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match
2160p(4K)
>Titan V
OpenCL work
>Vega 64

Storage
>Consider StoreMi
>Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard

Monitors
>Always consider FreeSync with AMD cards
>Lock to 72fps on 144hz non-Gsync monitors with Nvidia cards to prevent tearing on more demanding games
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING

So what would someone need 32gb of ram for? Just curious. I also do video editing and rendering if that makes a difference.

if you have to ask, you dont need it.
tho if you have the money and disposable income, why not.

Hey guys. So I've decided on purchasing a 2600x and a 1070Ti for 60fps 1080p gaming. But I'm unsure what B350 motherboard to purchase alongside it as well as what case to purchase, as right now I'm torn between the Fractal Meshify C and the S340 Mid Tower Case. I'm also not going to be water cooling btw. Thank you.

I know. i was just asking because I'm curious as to why someone would need that amount.

You want B450 and Meshify C.
Good boards are Asus STRIX, MSI Tomahawk, Carbon and Pro4M if you want mATX or Asus TRIX for ITX.

I need it. For instance Browser - 6gb, System - 2gb (these are always running).

Then its general use stuff like Photoshop (hundreds of layers) - up to 6 - 7gb ram. Then running Blender without closing any of the previous can basically consume the rest of the ram you have ( at this point i need to start closing everything if it want to do high poly editing due to to messed up workflow) - ∞. Then its the smaller programs like PureRef (for references) - 1gb. And all other stuff like steam etc sub 500mb stuff.

Then i want to play a game without needing to go through the hassle of closing anything. I constantly hit 16gb ceiling.

Thank you.

I didn't get an answer last thread so I'm postan in here again.
Are these idle temps good? My case has very limited airflow.

Gotcha. I don't qute do that much, but it'd still be good for possible future projects. Thanks.

Going to throw a 1070 in my FX6350 system today. What should I expect?

Probably going to try to get 2700X system next year or around December..

Eh.. not good but it won't explode. What CPU is that?

1070ti is a bit overkill for 60fps

Yeah for me its basically a comfort thing. If i hit the ceiling then the system starts writing unused RAM stuff into some cache on the HDD and that REALLY starts to impact everything you do for for a minute or two. Just generally creates a jarring experience. Having the ability to go in and out without fetching stuff from the drive would be ideal. Still, im building a new system with 16gb until the ram prices drop, hopefully having os on SSD will eliminate some of these tedious excess ram write times.

Step up to pretty much any midrange MSI B450 and get PBO and XFR that comes with it, and a 1070ti is entirely unnecessary unless you're looking at upgrading to 1440p in the near future. 1060 6gb or RX580 is adequate for ultra 1080p 60HZ, and it's especially a silly time to be over spending on overkill cards near the end of production life.

11 series will be rebranded 10 series.
AMD is doing nothing.

this really is the WORST time ever to build a new pc.

My main use cases are audio production in FL Studio and decent gaming capability at 2560x1440 @ 100Hz. I really only play LoL, HotS, R6 Seige, Overwatch and Civ V. This is my current build:

Would the RX580 be able to handle new games at 60fps Ultra/High?

Define C with r6 style updates when?

Help me out, Jow Forums
I go to Uni and I want something for my FFXV and TWW faggotry, No editing faggotry tho
650 libertybux budget (monitor not included, europoor )

The second post you quoted answers your question

what good price should i buy a vega 56?

>Would the RX580 be able to handle new games at 60fps Ultra/High?

I have rx480, tripple A shites run 60fps no problem 1080p on high/ultra. so 580/1060 will be a bit better.

I heard from multiple sources MSI PBO support is pretty dissapointing currently, unfortunate since the hardware is good. You cant offset the voltage in the bios so PBO runs at a possibly bit higher voltage than it needs to.

need suggestions for a new monitor, preferably 27 inch. i have a 1080 ti

What happens when I put 3000MhZ DDR4 Ram into a B450 motherboard?

Pic related: B350/450 can't ultilize more than 2667MHz? So anything more is wasted?

Attached: ryzen-motherboard-100755519-orig.jpg (1000x653, 61K)

xmp support?

What does it do? (Want to build Ryzen rig btw.)

Jow Forums what do you think of this, everybody tells me im wasting money but nobody is telling me why or how to fix it, dont mind the rgb on the fans, thats gonna get changed on purchase (just easier that way)

pcpartpicker.com/list/VLbgQZ

Get a board that isn't shit.

i feel like you're overpaying for the mobo

sour grapes mostly

My 1440p gayming build. Is it ok?

How much am I losing by going a R5 2600x as opposed to an R7? Not sure what I'm losing on a b450 board compared to a x450 also, but they seem to be a lot cheaper. I've heard you can't get ram passed 2900~ or something so I went for the 3000mhz ram and called it a day.

>The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled.

So should I put the M.2 ssd into the 2nd slot? I don't understand this. Does it mean that I can't get like an 850 evo for my games? I already have an external 2tb drive for storage so I only need a 500gb drive for games and I really don't want to go back to mechanical.

Attached: Capture.jpg (1169x651, 84K)

im getting the same issue with my build, not sure why i keep getting an error with the 970 evo, especially when other, similar builds are using it

pcpartpicker.com/list/VLbgQZ

>everybody tells me im wasting money but nobody is telling me why or how to fix it
I mean, you could probably save close to $100 on the motherboard and maybe another $50-100 getting a cheaper 1080ti variant, but they're expensive for a reason. The full fledged ROG boards allow some of the best overclocking potential out of a consumer board, and that GPU has fantastic cooling performance.
But really if I was building an all out Coffeelake/1080ti, it'd be similar to yours anyway and as the poster above said, I'd say it's just sour grapes.

Get b-die since you are paying so much. And a cheaper cooler

what would you recommend as far as mobo, the asus rog ones i would be interested in seem to be similarly prices, around $250 or so

pcpartpicker.com/product/G9WfrH/asus-rog-maximus-x-code-atx-lga1151-motherboard-rog-maximus-x-code

also im curious about the monitor, i understand thats a lot, but it has what i want

>How much am I losing by going a R5 2600x as opposed to an R7?
Fuck all. You'd be hard pressed to find a game that surpasses 6 cores, let alone 12 threads. And apart from the extra cores they're otherwise exactly the same.
>Not sure what I'm losing on a b450 board compared to a x450 also, but they seem to be a lot cheaper
X470*, and from what I can see the only real difference is being able to reallocate pci lanes in X470, like running crossfire or SLI. Seems like unless you're running multi GPUs the B450 will probably suit, and to be honest most of the B450s will be adequate in overclocking a 6 core R5.
>I've heard you can't get ram passed 2900~ or something so I went for the 3000mhz ram and called it a day.
Depends on how well supported your particular RAM kit is with a particular motherboard from what I can see.

Despite the 2nd Gen Ryzen Cpus supporting up to 2933mhz ram, the mobo can support more. You may need to OC your cpu probably. The specs are listed on your mobo site. There also should be a list or "supported RAM" where you can check which ram they tested and what results they got. They havent tested them all most likely so even with something thats not listed you can get more than 2933mhz. Not guaranteed tho. The general rule is if the ram is B-die (samsung) then its guaranteed to OC high.

If you plug in m.2 ssd - 2 out of 6 SATA connectors will not work, since the m.2 is routed through them or something. Still you have 4 other sata connections to plug in shit into. So unless you want to plug in more than 5 sata devices one of them being m.2 , you have nothing to worry about.

Stop buying B450 Tomahawk. B450-A Pro is the same board, but cheaper and without gayming looks. There is no difference expect the gayer looking heatsink on Tomahawk.

>MSI nVidia GeForce GTX 1060 , GeForce GTX 1060 ARMOR 6G OCV1

>GIGABYTE nVidia GeForce GTX 1060 , GV-N1060G1 GAMING-6GD

which one guys pls help

Whelp, high refresh 1440p IPS with G-Sync, you gotta pay to play. Especially with an ultra wide 34" screen. If that's what you want and you can afford it, buy it. It's not a particularly imbalanced build even if it's excessive, you have my envy.

But does it have RGB?

forgot pop tarts

...

just wait and get the 3060 24gb in 3 years time.

:(

just get an ssd. you will get more storage and the differance between a nvme m.2 ssd and a normal sata ssd is very minor.
that cooler is very overpriced. get a corsair h100i or a nzxt kraken if you want muh rgb.
check if that ram is b-die and from the money you saved buy a r7 2700 instead of the 2600x.

why do amdummies get so butthurt when presented with factual based evidence proving that intel is the superior product?

Attached: 456789.jpg (500x414, 23K)

Stop suggesting meshify c you're just driving up the price

>inb4 the guy above samefag argues with himself

rivalry aside, currently the 8600k and 8700k are superior gaming cpu's BUT coffee lake is a dead platform. buying one now over ryzen means that in 2-3 years you'll have to replace your cpu AND mobo if you want to upgrade.

>amd
>have to fuck around with ram timings and b-die shit to get the most out of overpriced ram
>have to change the fucking backplate on mobos to get AIO coolers to fit properly
>god damn bios updates are mandatory and it all feels just shoddy
>cheaper

>intel
>premium price
>it just werks

i wish the meshify didn't have that weird polygon print and plastic frame on the front of the case, the rest of it looks really nice

only retards upgrade every 2-3 years after buying high end. also ddr5 memory will be out by then, so you'll have to replace your platform anyway. ram that's twice as fast will give you a much better performance boost over going from zen+ to zen3.

>amdrones buy 16gb of ram that's more expensive than their ryzen cpu just to get that extra 5% of performance
>then they claim ryzen has better price/perf

I really hate to drag myself into a shitpost shillfest, but what makes you think a jump from DDR4 to DDR5 will necessitate a platform change?

hey guys when will you take the rgb pill?
its a nice meme lads
lemme see how many of you gets triggerred

>Bland 1070ti
>Almost 700 dollars
I just got my EVGA 1070ti FTW2 for 470 dollars not including tax from Amazon. Brand new.

I would go with EVGA personally. I overclocked this beast and got a 7 fps increase and that was only just using core and mem offsets and not even touching voltage so there's definitely more room to spare. Average about 108 fps in 1440p with everything maxed in Uniengine.

Favorite computer case of this general?

Memory controllers being in the CPU, for one?

>itt; we learn different countries often have different currencies
Guessing you don't have a passport.

they can support both.

Well it must suck not living in Freedom land eh mate?

Attached: uhcfuzi.jpg (1000x858, 74K)

Is there anything wrong with buying a second hand motherboard? Googling about has threads on TomsHardware and stuff with people claiming you should always buy mobos brand new because they're one of the first things to go.

In terms of ATX towers? Phanteks Enthoo Pro and Pro M seems to be popular here, and most things Fractal get a mention.
Personally recommend the P350X for a well built case that flows well and doesn't cost much and isn't hideous with the RGB shit turned off..

>different currencies
>same symbol
it really is stupid that USD, CAD, and AUD all use $

cringe

About that...

please don't start

I see what you mean, but honestly if I see a price that is wildly inconsistent with what I'm used to, the first thing I investigate is currency or the retail region.

Question about the Ryzen 2700x.
I ran cinebench benchmarks with this thing with all cores OC'ed to 3.9 and watched temps and clock numbers on the master utility and the one core never boosts over 3.9 to the supposed 4.3ghz. I also noticed I am only getting like 1700 score when I have seen some reviewers achieving 1800 out of the box with no OC? Wtf is going on? Temps under load reach about 70c

it says amazon australia right next to that aio anyway

>they can
You're delusional if you think either Intel or AMD would, when they can make more profit otherwise.

Intel did it with Skylake?

its a ryzen 3 2200g

Yes, they did it so well it damaged user's hardware.
wccftech.com/skylake-does-not-support-ddr3-damage-ddr3l-only/

>wccftech.com/skylake-does-not-support-ddr3-damage-ddr3l-only/
it really depends on the mobo manufacturer.
you can boot ddr3 1.5V on most mobos

they did it too c2d/c2q era

Yeah, I was going to bring that up, but Mr naysayer did specifically go on to mention something about memory controller being on the CPU.

>tfw got a free z270 msi something
I have a hasswell i7, but I do have 24gb of ram, so I want to either get 24gb DDR4 or 32
Will I be able to use a 8700k on that board with any kind of mod? I don't feel like going 4c again.

>Will I be able to use a 8700k on that board with any kind of mod? I don't feel like going 4c again.
Long answer; possibly
Short answer; no.
sell your Z270 and buy a Z370. You'll have a stable up and running machine sooner than you would if you were to try mod your Kabylake board.

Not looking to start a flamewar, just want to ask a simple question:

Is it basically the consensus at the moment that Ryzen chips are the way to go for low-mid tier builds right now?

Attached: amd vs intel.jpg (840x473, 83K)

what fps could i expect with an r9 370 (4gb model) in overwatch at lowest settings?
i7 2600 cpu

>ryzen meme

Attached: 1494902400900.jpg (724x720, 95K)

basically yeah. You CAN make an argument for the 8400 if you absolutely cannot afford ram faster than 2666 and you think memory overclocking is above your head, but with the price undercut of a 2600 vs 8400 this usually helps offset faster memory anyway.

ryzen is shit

$342 over budget..

I am not a PC specialist but this is the build I want.
Do you guys have any suggestions for a bit cheaper alternatives to some parts to get it to $8000?

Attached: u5g0oxA[1].png (1257x2311, 271K)

use the motherboard box as a case for now.

No, 8400 is still the best value for midrange builds

Yes, especially if you plan to use the integrated GPU.

>SLI
You do realize sli has no driver support and stutters like hell, dont you?

unless you doing rendering m2 is the same speed as regular ssd's in games

What's good for a casualfag who has no interest in overclocking? I just want to plug shit in and it just works.

You could make a good argument for Intel's poorfag tier CPUs, Pentiums certainly outperform A10/12. A10/12 iGPU is probably better for desparate poorfag 25fps gaming though...
