Not much if you compile stuff overnight and don't mind it compiling some garbage packages like llvm for a day. Also forget about compiling firefox, chrome, libreoffice, you can and should use the binary versions of those.
Make sure to have at least 2GB RAM and maybe an SSD to have something that could be considered useful.

Nice, I have a 10+ year old Dell PC that I put gentoo on and I need to put xorg on it still. I'm thinking of putting bspwm on it but icewm looks pretty comfy desu
