Reposting in this thread because didn't see new thread and I'm so stoked.

>tfw brand new keyboard for W520

Absolutely orgasmic.
I was second guessing myself all week about the money I've already spent on this shitbox old laptop that I use everyday.
I cleaned her up with a wet magic eraser and some toilet paper, and my god she's a beauty.
With the new keyboard in it's like a brand new computer. Hardly comparable.
Tempted to buy a new palmrest and battery now.

If you're considering replacing the keyboard on your thinkpad DO IT.

All that cash and still using a chinkpad

What does /tpg/ think about the new A485 ryzen thinkpad? Looks pretty solid to me desu.

This is as upgradable laptop as we're going to get. It's gonna be an epic refurb in 2021+.

Anyone got any recommendations for a good thinkpad I could upgrade into a sleeper laptop?
Need it for moving about but I want something with a good amount of storage and power.
Was thinking about just getting a T420/440 and upgrading that but I'm new to thinkpads and thought I'd ask before I buy something retarded.

Do any of the x thinkpads have nvme?

Most of the new ones do pretty sure.

Just got a t410 for free hopefully I can fix it desu >.

Stop it :(

What's the best durable bang for the buck thinkpad in the ~$200 range? Quad-core processor preferable.

t440p for $179.99

Ok so I got a question anons. How does the fingerprint scanner work on the T430. By which I mean how are prints stored and could the way they are stored potentially leak out my prints?

1 - Are they stored on the HDD and sends an image to the software in the OS which determines if they are the legit users prints and the OS then determines weather or not to unlock.

2 - Could you do an attack and say put a fingerprint reader in that takes any fingerprint?

3 - Does the fingerprint reader have its own sorta 'Secure Enclave' like the itoddlers have?

FYI I'm running GNU+Linux on this laptop.

Attached: brainlet.jpg (2048x2040, 115K)

you should be fine once you upgrade your ram

fucking based clean the fuck out of it with ipa and now it works, got an i7

Attached: IMG_20180815_164213.jpg (1944x2592, 1.5M)

Hi trip! :D

youre aside of shit op

Cannot wait. I intend to buy a damn near fully maxed model when it comes out.

X220 or X220t?

Attached: 1510100616446.jpg (960x540, 58K)

X230 with keyboard swap

I have a T420 and was thinking putting the SSD into the new thinkpad.
Will it work? since the hardware is a bit different, I'm running GNU+Linux.

X220

Attached: 20180519_020346v2.jpg (2728x3288, 805K)

so anyone figure out a way to update the bios without using windows at all?

i'm pretty sure lenovo distributes a live cd bios update so you can update regardless of os you use

i'm not trip faggot

Attached: 1522117869994.png (756x1029, 1.15M)

Hello fellow anons, do you think a T500 1680x1050, no hdd, C2D T9400 (2.53GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 6MB Cache, RAM: 4GB DDR3 RAM) is worth 80 USD? (EU retards market)

I am having mixed feelings since I bought an X230 tablet for 102 USD (w/o shipping) from the US, feels like I should just stick to the overseas market.

sure, you are on a watchlist for owning one so may as well i guess.

is the touchscreen good on a x1 cabron?
saw one with a good ips 1080p screen

i guess im just brainlet because the only bootable bios update i see is for windows 8

t410 cant be librebooted & my understanding is that coreboot is kinda shit on 1st gen i core systems

>tfw Windows ThinkPad 13 is discontinued

found this and wondering if its real

newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6AB5W83813&cm_re=thinkpad-_-9SIA6AB5W83813-_-Product
and this one says *MAX SETTINGS* so idk what that means.
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6AB5W83807&cm_re=thinkpad-_-9SIA6AB5W83807-_-Product

Wtf do I really have to buy a $20 chip clip if I want to libreboot

Attached: IMG_20180815_135053.jpg (1077x1084, 107K)

Freedom isn't cheap.

anyone here get the chink shit from the op?
how did it go?

T430S has a HD+ screen option (I'm using one right now). So no, it isn't maxed.

I've never used it because I use windows, but it should be just a bootable iso, burn it on cd or use a usb drive and it should work just fine? That's my best guess.

>tfw digging through storage at work
>find a t30
>ask to take it home
>"no"
well maybe ill dumpster dive when the next purge happens

So I bought a used Dell Latitude E6430 and the rubberized coating on the inside its really tacky does any one know how to make it be less tacky thanks

lenovo.wikia.com/wiki/T430s
>no i7
>no optimus
>no HD+ panel
The listing shows only the memory is "maxed out". Everything else is standard, but had better options for the model.

Attached: Capture.png (497x316, 16K)

Can someone definitively tell me which x series thinkpads support nvme? im looking it up but all these normalfags just call everything "ssd" and not what kind it is.

My T22 died just a month ago and I'm choosing between 2 X220s (one with 320GB HDD 4GB RAM and the other is 2GB RAM 64GB SSD, both i5), S230U (i5 3317u 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD 500GB HDD) and T410 (i3 380M 4GB RAM 320 GB HDD). My logic assumes the best option is the X220 with HDD, as I don't really need the tablet mode of the S230. What do you guys think?

got my w520, installed w10, drivers are hard to find/get working

what should I do family, I have the quadro model 2000m I think.

i need windows, do I have to rollback to 8.1?
send help

>inb4 loonix

Attached: ayy.png (1142x310, 77K)

What would you guys pay for a W540 with an i7-4600M@2,9GHz, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD? Appreaciate any input.

Lenovo System Update. You can select the drivers you need, along with recommended/urgent shit software and updates.
support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds012808

lenovo system update or maybe something like sdi tool

only two it found/installed

Attached: dr.png (1016x678, 110K)

>t410 cant be librebooted
Can it at least be corebooted?

You're just missing the quadro drivers? the latest are R375 U11 for ODE according to Nvidia.

yes

one of them says it has a 1 TB of storage too
really just need something with 8gig ram and dual core.
looking for anything cheap but hesitate since that seller doesn't have reviews.

Seems like the device manager installed them for me?

Attached: print.png (1920x1080, 227K)

I'd like a modern thinkpad where I can plug in my own fucking network card thank you very much

Why are thinkpads in europe way more expensive

because you yuros don't deserve anything nice

fug bois i need a battery

are the chink knock off 9cells any decent, or should i just go all out and get a lenovo one?

Attached: w520.png (235x63, 4K)

chink batteries are usually 60-80% of advertised capacity, go for it

I always go chink for batteries, just avoid the dirt cheap ones and you'll be fine.

why do keyboards cost almost as much as a used thinkpad what is this kikery desu

Attached: cute_spid.png (478x677, 224K)

post the dishraggiest thinkpad u got

>$20 x61t
>chink battery split open in the mail, duct taped back together
>snapped screen bezel, taped back together
>broken lid clips, velcro instead
>1024x768, dim yellow ccfl
>2gb ram
>spinning rust
>not upgrading or fixing any of that shit
>no pen

Attached: A4EFD5CA-CA3A-4A26-ABA0-90154A12ACC3.jpg (2048x1536, 1012K)

Love it

looks like a mean, shitposting machine used by the hacker known as Jow Forums.

So anything after the 40 series?

You could buy a 1 dollar soic 8 clip which is the non branded version
I think Amazon has it for like 5 or 10 under the same name

My T60 came in the mail. Its in amazing shape and the keyboard is hardly worn at all. Smells like old people though. Waiting for the battery and charger now.

A285 where REEEEEEEEEEE

t440p or w520?

Attached: dont-talk-to-me-till-after-coffee-c225c.png (420x294, 73K)

How good is your back?

Linux is usually pretty good with that; it should be fine.

Clean it and get new Keyboard

It's old, raw flesh

Good ways to upgrade a X220 unit?

> Just installed Solus on my T400
> Have no idea what I am doing, but I'm having fun getting everything updated and configured

The battery has been dead for ages, so I mainly use this device for shitposting in bed, watching youtube videos/listening to music, and occasional gaming/chat on Steam. I figured I'd give Linux a shot and so far everything seems nice. I cam from Windows 10 so it's nice to install an OS that comes bundles with something as simple as a calculator, if anything.

Attached: T400.jpg (1920x1080, 178K)

Attached: 20180815_154347-min.jpg (3120x4160, 1.18M)

I'm surprised more people don't sand down and polish the lids on their thinkpads. That one that gets posted sometimes with a perfect mirror finish is super cool.
(can someone post it pls)

Well there was a Thinkpad with a titanium cover.

Attached: 4-Z61m-Ti-cover-small.jpg (1024x768, 102K)

>buy a "new" x200 battery off eBay
>can't hold a charge for more than 3 seconds

recommend me a thinkpad
>long ass battery life
>no numpad
>old style keyboard
>can run paradox games (very cpu bound)

It will say livecd or liveusb or bootablecd or bootableusb but the actual download will be an image file with a win file extension .iso and the readme will have instructions for the usb setup.

How long do you use your thinkpad?
I'm starting to have neck and back pain because of using it for several hours a day ~ 10 hours/day, do you use ergonomic furniture?
Any tips?

Attached: droian-ergonomic-computer-workstation_12_1000x.jpg?v=1519977231.jpg (550x550, 51K)

t410 keyboard is fucked and so is the network card, i swapped it out for one from my dell and got a modded bios, windows detects it in device manager and shows it working but it wont search for networks what do senpais?

The entire day
No
Docking station + two monitors

>several hours a day
>10 hours a day
>ergo furnitures
I don't, but you should do as I say, not as I do.
>business slowed down for me this fiscal year
>tfw I have increased neck and back pain
>fml
You get out wat you put in, user. Gotit?

did you install the proper driver for that card?

it auto installed stock one shows working too, i think i might need to enable it with function buttons but the keyboard doesn't work kek

Attached: 1532860387422.png (549x768, 580K)

would a t430 with a keyboard mod work for this?
