When 2080 comes out, will prices of 1080Ti drop to about 300$ or would it be advisable to buy 2050 or whatever will be a cheap 300$ alternative? How has this been in the past? prices should have dropped a long long time ago. Pascal is already more than two years old. Ten years ago a two year old high graphics card would already be out for about 300-400$ and the new 50% faster chip would be around 700-800$. I guess we really reach the point of stagnation. With CPUs it's even worse.

Why should they have dropped? Because it's old? If the cards are still in demand then you price them accordingly to that demand. They'll sell all their remaining stock at current prices easily, shaving a little of if they really want to move them quickly.

because they are old and bad. 1080 isn't that much better than 980 and 2080 won't be much better than 980. Maybe 25% jumps at max. People should already have at least 9xx and there is simply no reason to update for 700$. 9xx is still 400-500$ and it's almost 5 years old. Depending on the game you play you could be spending 700-800$ to get 16% fps increase.
I don't really care, there is just no reason for me to upgrade. I have been waiting for years, but they performance increase is just too little for the price. I play most of my games easily with over 100fps stable.
