2019...year of the desktop? lololol
ls -t
We've had this for years
that's modification date tho
Some file managers can do it. Ext4 keeps track of it, but it's not part of the spec, only modification date is.
I really dislike case sensitive directories as well.
I want my directories to be nice and clean like "Documents" not "documents", but that also means I have to press shift+d for tab completion.
Fucking eee
You could just get a shell/file manager that isn't fucking broken.
>I really dislike case sensitive directories as well.
So how does it feel to be retarded?
STILL no thumbnails
use an alias then u big baby
>I want my directories to be nice and clean like "Documents" not "documents"
Then don't name it so, dumdum
Linux is supposed to be about unlimited tweaking, tuning, and customising. Yet, when it shows its limits, freetards are all like "you're an idiot"; LMFAO
Linux is server OS. If you want to use PC OS, then install Windows or MacOS instead.
There are literally shell settings to enable case-insensitive tab completion. Linux doesn't show its limits here, you are literally just an idiot.
use a case insensitive filesystem then, brainlet
>Winshit
lmao
>Mac OS
Too bad it's not an OS you can actually install.
zsh doesn't have this problem
this L M A O
>limits
Case insensitivity is a limit. You can't make Documents and documents on windows.
Linux is a KERNEL. OFC it can't do that.
Who the fuck even records creation time?
Do you also record creation user/group and creation path separately from the permitted user/group and current path?
are you retarded?
set alias documents='cd ~/Documents'
look at all this _unlimited tweaking_
>excuses
pathetic
another one:
ln -s ~/Documents ~/document
How many times do we have to repeat it? 2017 was the year of the linux desktop.
retard
That date created doesn't exist, of course you can't sort by it.
Nope. Unix doesn't record file created time. It only records file changed time.
HAHA I KNOW RIGHT
>gtk or anything gnome related
>expecting good quality and bug fixes
>retards still use GTK+ apps
bind 'set completion-ignore-case on'
>date created 8/15/2018 11:55 PM
>same file
>date modified 8/15/2018 11:54 PM
Looks good.
The modified date is before the created date, you idiot. Having a "created date" field is useless if it's wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if it had bizarre semantics that make it useless for practical purposes, like every other piece of filesystem metadata in NTFS.
$ touch .
That’s modified date, not created date.
> Unix doesn't record file created time
Since Linux's stat can show "Birth", I think it's filesystem-dependent.
>Unix
We're talking about linux. Keep up gramps
The difference between creation and modification is a philosophical question. A modification can be thought of as a creation.
/thread
>*snap*
Fake and gay. Looks like Micropenis Shitblows shills are out in full force today.
This. I quite literally rage every now and then when i have to use bash
Linux doesn't either. Try to keep up retard
>matt
>exposing your real name to the botnet.
wow
Kill yourself neckbeard.
In what situation is this functionality useful?
When you're a 500 pound WinNEET who can't be assed to organized files into separate folders named according to date created.
>excuses
lol
document management when writing intensive collabs and i guess general file management.
>why dont you write it in the filename yourself then
sure why dont i do everything myself
No it’s not. A modification is a modification to an existing file. A creation is making a new file.
What's next, you're gonna tell me I need two settings panels and intrusive telemetry? Get the fuck out of here.
BTFO
>whataboutism
lol
Modify to taste and put it in a bash script or something.

>just do everything yourself!
>you’re fat! lol

>right click
>new folder
Amazing!
>have to manually organize everything that a normal filesystem has been able to do for you for more than 20 years
Amazing! lol
Whats the difference.
You can log all this crap if you want and even intermittent permission / location changes and what inodes a file occupied and what processes did manipulate it and how much RAM they used and whatever else the fuck you want with inotify / the linux audit daemon / systemtap and many other tools.
It's just useless to account this clutter by default. As opposed to that, a lot of software needs to know if a file was modified while it wasn't running (mtime) or while it is running (inotify, typically).
Anyone remember organizing files in whatever order you wanted in XP?
fuck I miss that....
You can organize pictures by date in exif.
for bash use or for permanently drop this on the ~/.bashrc
bind 'set completion-ignore-case on'
>what is thunar?
Kys
Do linux files don't use two time tables? One for date created and one for date modified? What's the deal exactly? Can they not sort by date because its a "string" instead of numbers? A rookie mistake?
>pic
How do I set this up on lxde? Will it bloat the system with fuckton of KDE shit as well?
Low quality bait is low quality
Now do it in GIMP!
>by date created
Yeah, because Unix has no such concept.
>date created
>11:55
>date modified
>11:54
oh look, it's another FUD thread.
packages yes, but it won't be running at all
any seems only chromium is capable because firefox forces use of GTK shit which is 300 years behind
OpenSUSE has a lot of info on it cuz they do it by default in many programs.
askubuntu.com
lxde is pretty shit feature wise though, wasn't it merged into LXqt with razor? or something?
Freetards, everyone
>duurrrrrrrrrr I don't know what stx_btime is
man 2 statx
Haven't tried LXqt, only whatever lubuntu comes with. It's not exactly the DE you pick for being feature rich. But searching through pcmanfm in a separate window for the pic I want to upload is getting annoying.
chadOS master race
it made us animals
???
>Kode
For some reason I approve.
>KDE
bloated shit
faggot
Cannot sort pictures by their dimensions
>GNOME
>no image preview in explorer
MacOSX seems more your speed then.
>time zones don't exist
can't or won't?
Fuck you, Linux!
Why can't you do basic simple things so we can like you more? I really, really wanna love Linux.
Bash on MacOSX still uses case sensitive directory names unless you change your bashrc
man find
When will you faggots learn GNU+Linux is not a pre-set OS like Windows with a standard WM and DE. Fuck off already you faggots, theres more than one
At least it's functional bloat, unlike GNOME garbage.
Still wrong.
>GIMP
Krita is superior in every way and ins't unpleasant to use. It's still free software as well.
>what is timezone-agnostic UNIX Timestamp standard
>UNIX
The screenshot is obviously a Windows OS.
I'm not sure if you're baiting or just plain retarded. Windows uses BSD components, which might as well be Unix considering how much of it is derived from BSD. Windows isn't Unix, but it certainly uses components from it, and Microsoft has released many Windows version that were POSIX certified.

ls -U -> Use time of file creation, instead of last modification for sorting (-t) or long output (-l).
