are you using plan9 rn? actually, is anybody here using plan9?
Eli Ortiz
Works for me, maybe you're a brainlet
Ryan Morales
do you post from plan9?
Connor Nelson
Plan 9 doesn't support js
Bentley Foster
it's sad that this is dead but you just gotta let it go man shill something good that could actually be used as a main/only OS, like openbsd or something idk
Ayden Lee
It's 10+ years that is "dying"
Jaxson Baker
Just like this world.
It dies a slow death and then promptly collapses in a short time.
Nathaniel Wright
Unironically a brilliant idea.
Grayson Thomas
>minimal to the point of being useless No thanks.
Noah Perry
t. NodeOS dev who posted from Brave browser.
Brandon Martinez
Except when you actually need to do anything.
Brayden Sanders
I'm sorry for mentally-deficient "people" like you, but browsing the web is not doing something.
Aaron Collins
Anybody try to flash plan9 on bios chip?
Carter Baker
since you just posted it means you had to use a different browser and so it doesn't >work for me
Except every year or becomes more developed in terms of code, concept of adoption and forks
Nicholas Barnes
I don't consider posting in this shit hole a metrics of an OS nor having a fully capable browser. Abaco and mothra can browse Wikipedia and Google and sort of other web sites and it's enough for me, consider what has to offer
Brandon White
So why no new releases for ages?
Luke Evans
you don't need JS to post here
Grayson Jenkins
9front.org One new release every 6 month or so
Brandon Phillips
It's a pain in the ass. You can not browse the catalog either
Adam Anderson
most you will use it is in a VM until a functioning browser is ported then daily usage is out of question
Luis Anderson
why is their website down atm?
Owen Jackson
> A web browser is necessary in order to use a OS This is Technology related board kid. I used 9front for 6 month or so as daily basis on the metal mostly writing PS and code while listening to music, and sometimes browse the web pages that were not heavy on Js and CSS (Wikipedia). For daily usage, mouse chording combined with plumber was really comfy, it's something you really miss on every other systems. Once you are used to the UI, it's really clumsy going back to other wm/DE.
Plan 9/9front has lot to offer in technical aspects and ordinary use, its target is not normies though
Adam Howard
It's up now.
Gavin Carter
what is the best way to install Plan9 userland utilities on Linux?
Dominic Bennett
Links. Or port NetSurf
Cooper Baker
Plan9 from userspace
Jacob Gomez
What can I do with Plan9 that I can't do with the userspace ports?
Anyone here tried 9front's new virtual machine, vmx? Supposedly it can run Linux and bsd comfortably, for when you need to watch videos or use Javascript heavy sites
David Ross
does the Rc shell on Plan9 work the same as bash or are there improvements?
Michael Morgan
Proper namespace and fileserver usage. The Rio wm on Linux is shit and basically just a skin. The base functionality of all the tools work but you lose a lot of the integration between them. You can emulate or recreate some of it with Linux tools but it's never as clean.
Leo Price
improvements
Luis Roberts
>A web browser is necessary in order to use a OS It is in year 2002+15 AD >I used 9front for 6 month or so as daily basis on the metal Supposedly you were, what made you go back to our "normie" operating systems?
James Thompson
What can you do with Linux that can't be done on Windows 10 WSL?
Landon Jackson
No, it gives up lots of functionality for minimalism. You can try it easily actually. $ git clone github.com/rakitzis/rc $ cd rc $ autoreconf -vi $ ./configure $ make $ ./rc Rakitzis' clone though can be configured with readline support, so you get rc with bash shortcuts. But if you're going on Plan 9, you get no such thing.
Logan Diaz
>What can you do with Linux that can't be done on Windows 10 WSL? Have a secure and functional system that works.
James Clark
does acme only work with ac or can i use bash in linux? What was the command for a shell again, Win or something?
Hudson Edwards
win, lowercase. you can use bash, set $acmeshell I think You'll probably need to change your prompt though because acme won't support any colour codes you might have in it
Thomas Long
Thank you kindly
Landon Lee
Plan 9 isn't Linux and your post is entirely irrelevant to this thread.
Brayden Smith
>It is in year 2002+15 AD Why?
Liam Allen
Because I don't like 2018 so I'll casually skip it
>news >info for formats, interfaces, hardware >forums (support, tickets etc) >webmins interfaces (for remote jobs) >documentation (HTML/CSS format) Web (of course) and embedded development (limited info availability) will be very restricting. Most open source contributions as well (b/c Github, Gitlab, etc). System administration is also now usually dependent to web-accessible products (support and issue tracking).
Bentley Brown
umm.. how do i compile the kernel ? do i have to do it inside 9front ?
Nathaniel Cooper
Are you serious? Almost all that has a non web good alternative. You said you need the browser for things that browser shouldn't be used for
Julian Gray
>wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/9front >Within the /lib folder, 9front contains plain text copies of The Manifesto of the Communist Party, the Constitution of the United States, and many other highly important documents that have immense historical importance and so deserve a place in the official documentation of the operating system. what the actual fuck ?
Isaac Green
>project uses said web interface >b-but there is an alternative You are either doing toy projects or work alongside the rest. Now if you can find information outside the web, good for you. (Though sharing information is the point of the web in first place.)
Ayden Ortiz
All kind of information are get to the web browser if it doesn't rely heavily on js and css. The other things you listed are just things that the browser is not meant for and they are the cancer that needs to die.
>documentation (HTML/CSS format) This is what you faggot actually do? Should I take you seriusly after this or you just trolling?
Aiden Edwards
There was a copy of "Mein kampf" under /lib few years ago
Bentley Hughes
Whatever. If you think so then arguing more on this is a waste of time. Also if you're user I replied to , I'm still waiting an answer to my question.
