the only desktop client that supports all the matrix features is a bloated piece of shit powered by electron and the android app is a battery draining clusterfuck

How's encryption now?

It's a lot more stable now

Did matrix fix their backend yet? Also what happened to the revamped gui on the Riot client? Did they give up?

Just keep a tab open, no need for electron

You should try out rocket.chat, it's basically the main competitor to riot.

how about you stop advertising your fucking garbage

Explain why it's garbage.

>Rocket chat
Fuck off

:^)

turn off automatic updating on the fdroid version you dolt

>instant messaging app
>turn off its ability to receive messages timely
zoomer logic

Keep in mind that the actual chat is Matrix, and Riot is one of many clients, sorta like IRC. It's worth using, Riot or otherwise. I use a mix of Riot and the Weechat plugin. I use Riot for uploading pictures, or if I'm on my phone. It's pretty nice feature-wise, but they have some latency issues they've got to work on. Compared to IRC, it's slow as shit, but I still think it's the chat of the future.

>Matrix vs. XMPP (vs. IRC)
Go

well then you may just have to use the google play version.

Irc is obviously the best, xmpp is a close second. Matrix is dog shit and slow right now but i hope it gets better and beat the discord botnet.

>just keep your bloated browser open.

>hope it beats the discord botnet
Too late for that, kiddo

it's a decent replacement for slack, but I doubt most people would switch

Use another matrix client then

>He doesn't always keep his browser open
wtf do you even use your computer for?

> Irc is obviously the best, xmpp is a close second. Matrix is dog shit
Please spoonfeed why

Show me another one that supports all the matrix features and I'll switch in a heartbeat

This

>Matrix is shit
Why?

>Keep your browser open
No

Because you have to constantly shill it

>no answer

I tried to install it, but apparently I need an x86 machine to run it.

depends on which country you are in!
some countries block the VOIP communication protocols and ports.

the encryption has problems too if you are using multiple devices.

just use Threema!

Matrix on its own is a good thing. Besides saying that it is slow is wrong, it's only slow on matrix.org, the main server, I have my own instance and it's rather fast, as long as I don't interact with matrix.org, that is.

If only nheko had the full feature set
also I don't like how you can't really delete everything

>Threema
Trash

This. nheko looks very promising

>but i hope it gets better and beat the discord botnet.
Bring vocal rooms then.
It's a pain to make call all the freaking time when you can just drop in the vocal room and everyone in here can instantly start talking to you.

How is it trash?

>Supported operating systems: iOS, Android, Windows Phone

>Irc is obviously the best, xmpp is a close second
Why? no e2e, no federation

This

It's slow

mqtt

XMPP is federated and OMEMO works flawlessly.
I can't wait for the day that they finally add webrtc audio/video chats to conversations so I can ditch all proprietary messengers on mobile.

github.com/torhve/weechat-matrix-protocol-script/

>no images
>no audio/video support
>The current encryption implementation in weechat-matrix-protocol is incompatible with Matrix
into the trash

there are a million privacy oriented, federated, encrypted, open source chat and instant message projects right now
they're all dead
people are obsessed with defeating shit like facebook and discord with zero understanding of why they have users

/thread

Matrix is a great protocol.
Riot is a shitty implementation.

It's the only client that supports every feature so far

I know that. It doesn't mean it's not shit.
I'm hoping purism will develop a nice Matrix client for their Librem 5 phone.

Reminder to join the yuri.im matrix server!
What's the news on the Librem 5? Are they even in production yet?

>What's the news on the Librem 5?
I haven't checked in a while. Last I heard they wanted to ship by the first quarter of 2019 but I don't know if they are still on schedule. Probably not, giving how massive of a project that is. But I hope they are successful. A GNU/Linux phone would be a literal dream come true.

Bump

>no voice calls

web.threema.ch does not work on any other OS?

>Leave your browser open
Once again, trash

then the only one fit for you is Adamant.io user.

Adamant.im*

The Conversations dev said a/v support won't happen

No, just use Jabber.

he'll change his mind

There's Pix-Art Messenger now, which might add it

Highly doubtful imho. A/V is no simple task, and so far pix-art's "improvements" were rather cosmetical.

Just use Signal
>inb4 muh gapps
Don't connect to the internet then.

I use Matrix for home and we have a server set up at work and I haven't had any problems. It's the most solid system I've tried that gives you control over your own communications.

Fuck Slack!

what kind of poorfag PC you have?
Don't tell me you fell for thinkpad meme...

Sorry sweetheart, but some of us do actual work with our computers that is actually resource intensive.
