I've had about 10x more crashes on macOS than on Windows. If you just browse the web, sure it won't crash on you, but neither does windows.

They're outdated because macOS doesn't ship with any GPLv3 code. If you want GPLv3 cancer, you can use brew.

What's the alternative on macOS? Chrome absolutely kills your battery, and I'd have bought a (cheaper, even) iMac if I just wanted to have my computer plugged in all the time.

No. I got a hackintosh running alongside arch + windows, and deleted it after a month since there was no point to it. It shares some of the same advantages of Linux over windows but also most of the disadvantages, and doesn't have any advantages over Linux which windows also doesn't have.

Considering Apple struggles to keep macos running properly JUST ON MACS, it'll never happen anyway. Meanwhile Windows and Linux will install and run perfectly fine on any hardware, including macs. Apple is a fucking joke.

I have an install of Arch, Windows 8.1 and a Hackintosh on my T420. The only advantages the MacOS has over my Linux install is the Siri shit. I don't use voice commands so it's effectively useless for me.

Taskbar icons flicker whenever you delete a file on windows 10. It's been an issue since consumer preview. Microsoft hasn't acknowledged the bug at all.

I already do that with my Hackintosh. More stable then Windows 7. Doesn't shove updates down your throat like Win 10. And works smoother then either. I use linux everywhere else though. I suggest trying to setup a hackintosh if you have the right hardware just for the learning experience.

Had it dual booting with Windows, everything working except imessage. Then there was an update, a minor +.1 update. Wouldn't update. Could have ignored it, but instead I wiped the drive it was on and reinstalled GNU/Linux because it just works.

If it worked without having to fuck around so much I'd probably still be running it. But Hackintosh reminds me of trying to get Linux running 15 years ago. Except you don't get the benefit of freedom.

I like Linux better because Linux distros have basic things like package managers already set up and ready, and the really good ones have package building systems that let you easily modify and recompile packages.

It was bought 2015 and was the freshest model. Idk much about Apple hardware release dates, I just know that the hardware is shit.

i used outdated windows boxes from like age 4 to mid- to late teens. then i got a series of hand-me-down mac systems and used those for years, all the while still using a pc. i used those piece of shits for so many years. i would modify source and compile binaries just to get old software to run. then i purposefully bought a 2012 macbook in 2014 because it was the last model with a matte screen and non-soldered memory. i planned to do a lot of coding on it and figured i could churn out shitty mac apps since macfags pay up. i also knew i could squeeze some more life out of it later with upgrades and that i could boot any other system on it, but that i wouldn't have to fuck with haxintosh. i used to triple boot the big three but now i can just fire up a vm. i've never really had any problems with macos. sometimes i almost feel shame for not running a foss distro as a daily driver, but then i think about all of the stupid habits i'd have to break.

Last time I tried it, it still missed stuff. Think the only decent one that worked was CleanMyMac which was basically like CCcleaner before it went to shit.

Though to be fair, getting rid of small bits of software can be an issue on other OS's too, just people don't try as hard to get your jewgold for it.

I have used macOS more than the huge majority of Jow Forums since it was my work environment. I'd get multiple errors per day while doing simple things, the security was horrible (have they finally fixed the bug where using the cli to eject a drive locks it?) and the performance was impressively bad.
