The slowdown is mostly with pointer checking, to make sure you're not passing a go-allocated pointer to your C function (because garbage collection has no way of knowing if you are maintaining a reference in your C code--unfortunately is right) . I like a few aspects of Go, I like the Capitalization of imported names so I know if I'm calling a method or just an imported symbol. I like the package management, which requires no config file etc. Go's GTK is the most sane binding I've seen, even though it's not complete.

Of course Go is not the most advanced language but if calling C is more expensive than in Java that's just unacceptable.
