if your not spend over 6000$ you shouldn't buy any audio gear new.

if its like 1-60$ that fine but any thing from 60-6000$ you should buy second hand you will get 3000$ speakers for 600$ instead of buying brand new 600$ speakers that will be worth 200$ in afue years.

it hurts

What are you talking about?

Attached: cMPzddb.jpg (4656x2620, 1.95M)

new jbl studio monitors don't have the studio blue. aren't the 4429s the last model to have that?

My 4367 are blue as you can see.
4319, 4307 and 4306 are as well.

QX Guy here.

Will get the Polk Audio Signature S20 tommorow and Resident Audio M5 on friday. cannot wait to report back

Anyone have Polk S15's and can post a picture of them on their desk? Want to buy but concerned this shit will look comical for near-field use

depends on how wide your desk is i suppose.

will tell you tommorow so keep a look on the thread

yeah i know, just looking for some real-world examples

what the fuck

Schiitkike owner fucks up design of asgard heaphone amp because he couldn't be arsed to incormporate an relay mute.
This video blew op on head-shill showing a huge DC spike that occurs when shutting off the amp.
Schiitkike owner denies this is a problem but later did ad relay mutes on their asgard products.
Kind of like apple does, I mean it's all crap in a fancy anodized "space age"aloominum case anyway.

What amp should I buy to power a pair of HiVi 3.1s?

They're 4 ohm, was looking at the Behringer KM750/KM1700 but they don't fucking take banana plugs. So now I'm leaning towards a Crown XLS1002 over something like an Emotiva BASX A-100 or A-150.

Any thoughts or guidance? Thanks!

>banana plugs
irrelevant my dude

Bare wire is better than bananas

Y tho? Banana plugs seem nice and convenient, not wiring for a permanent home theater installation or anything.

Because the whole banana is just a extra connection.

Sure, but is there a significant and tangible difference in audio quality? Banana plugs just seem much more convenient.

Not sure what the power handling is, but you probably want something more powerful than the A-100. 150 is more reasonable. I don't think the pro amps sound any different, like a Crown, but be aware a lot of them have forced induction cooling and therefore fan noise can be an issue. Behringer would be my last choice.

I'd probably go with an Emotiva product. I've had really good service from them.

I second the other user in not bothering with banana plugs. It doesn't hurt if the connections are good, but, it's not something to select an amplifier off of.

Thanks for your input, it's convenient for me to rack mount the amp which is mainly why I'm looking at a pro amp over a more traditional receiver or something like the Emotivas. I'm looking for something that will sound good with lots of headroom, sit on a rack, and be easily detachable.

My desk is on wheels and that's what I'll be hopefully rack mounting the amp to. It's cables are all on board, and the speakers will be slightly too large to fit on the desk.

XLS1002 would be 350wpc where as the A150 would be 150wpc, I'd have to buy the rack mounting hardware for the emotiva separately. I can't find any reliable thoughts or opinions about either the KM750 or KM1700, but it has an attractive price point.

Convenient sure but you can use spade or the straight line (not sure of the name) connectors. Bare wire is and always will be the best thing you can do even if inconvenient. The less pieces in the puzzle the better

Should I buy a power conditioner? I'm buying snake oil pills and need something to go with it

>is there a significant and tangible difference in audio quality?
No, there isn't.

I hope to one day have speakers as good or better than this. Screencapping for the day I do.

whats a good dac, i can hook up to my old school rotel receiver. $200 dollar price range

>local record store still had the SG-750
>bought it
>works perfectly

An audiophile reviewer finally says it:choose active for the best performance and bang for the buck.
>youtube.com/watch?v=Sg4d7EOVmwE
>darko.audio/2018/02/genelecs-the-ones-8341-think-inside-the-box/
>"Crucially – and most unconventional of all – this active 3-way’s two crossover points – 500Hz and 3kHz – are implemented digitally, prior to the amplification stage. DSP-applied filter slopes tend not to introduce the phase shift that troubles passive crossover designers. And fewer phase errors means sounds are more likely to arrive at the ear at the right time."
>"Similarly, the best amplifier for your favourite loudspeaker is a tailored fit at the driver level, the signal crossed over beforehand in the digital domain where tailoring according to the room becomes possible. The Genelec 8341 tell us this is as true for high end offerings as it is for the entry-level. That doesn’t mean passives, their matching amplifiers and interconnecting loudspeaker cables are ready for the scrap heap. Not at all. An entry-level Audioengine will not likely match a pair of Magico powered by a big ticket McIntosh. It just means that separated loudspeaker and amplifier configurations have to work harder for our affections (and money)"

>darko.audio/2018/05/children-of-the-revolution-kii-genelec-kef/

>Why? Because audio manufacturers targeting audiophiles largely cater to those who prefer to mix and match outboard amplifiers with passive loudspeakers where such DSP correction just isn’t possible. Nothing wrong with that. Businesses must follow the money.

>For churners listening in untreated rooms, DSP-powered actives put a fork in the road: do we want to continue to play the amplifier the lottery or do we want even better sound quality from our room/loudspeaker pairing?

>Active loudspeakers like the KEF, the Genelec and the Kii, where the loudspeaker does everything, reward anyone prepared to forego the audiophile tweakery – or move to it another part of the signal path – with room-accommodating DSP smarts that, for the same cash that might otherwise be spent on a passive speaker system, take sound quality to the next level and beyond.

i like making acoustic/folk song
should i buy steinberg ur-22 or scralett 2i2 2nd gen? or just rent a studio? for mix & mastering i can do low level stuff and i don't think it'
s hard for acoustic music

but when your amp goes faulty, the whole speaker goes faulty

I'm checking my lsr305s with a left/right/center test and the center clearly sounds to the right a little. My speakers are the perfect distance apart from my monitor and toed in exactly the same. Anyone know why this is happening? it's not hugely off, but it feels obvious to me.

I should build my own speakers.

Attached: Speakers.jpg (576x898, 65K)

either because you ear canals are fucked, try blowing strong in your nose while holding the nostrills together

or there is a hardware mismatch which can happen on amps, especially on cheaper ones like lsr 305, try adjusting it with your volume setting on the back

last guess would be because room reflections

I think I've just discovered something. I do have ear problems but they sound fine today. I think the first user is right, they aren't matched properly. I just turned the dial down one on the right and now the sound perfect. The center comes down the middle and the left right test sound equal. Love these speakers but I didn't expect the dials to be mismatched ffs. Not really a problem. At least I know now.

it's not that unusual for cheap amps to have slight mismatch

i saw this one issue too on a zreviews video with another set of "budget" monitor speakers for $800 i believe

Do you have a good sounding extremely quiet room to record in

Made me a feel a little bit better about it then I guess :)

So? You unscrew the amp element which is usually easily accessible on the back, send it off to repair and put it back a couple of days later. Companies like genelec get your shit sorted in no time

hmm.. good point, alright then

well this might be true but all in all you won't know if they cover you for the next 5 years

Depends on the brand, but most decent pro audio stuff will repair everything they ever made, Neumann doesn't care if your microphone is from 2011 or 1949

Is the Sony NW-A45 decent? (as budget dap) I currently have a X1II and it is driving me nuts.

getting wood over here. I want some nice amps, as senseless as they are for me. I can't imagine spending 6 grand on them though. I'd need to have a better year than I'm having.

>I can't imagine spending 6 grand on them though.
that's because it's a complete waste of money. it's a luxury product and that's fine, but, you can get a monolith by monoprice, which is literally an ati amp, for a thousand dollars. and sitting as close as that user is, even the monolith is probably a waste of money. a receiver could power those just fine. i'm not hating though, it's cool stuff and people buy all kinds of art and other things that make no objective difference but they like it. all the power to them, it is what keeps the economy going.

Hey swedeanon, any plans to upgrade speakers? When I upgrade I'll have the best speakers in this thread... just you wait...

I've seen some anons with pretty decent stuff around here
so chances are you won't

can confirm. when plebspotter namefag crew was around, things were up to the 70k range for a single speaker.

i miss Hornloaded

ONE of the best then. I don't have a budget for $70k for just speakers, more like, $30k and another $20-25k for components, so 70k total for all.

what are you looking at?

if you put 30k speakers inside a 40k room done by a good acoustician then you might easily have the best

Nope, what speaker is considered an upgrade? ;)
What speaker are you considering?
It's pretty senseless, they aren't much better than my old $1.5K amp.

I've no idea yet. I currently use some Paradigm floor standers given to me by my peppep.

why so rude?

>this entire thread has won the award for most retarded assemblage of sad autists; you all make harbethposter appear normal

Nah, Harbethanon, aka Iris aka D2Girls aka Retard Yggdrasil owner aka retard aka fag nigger retard, was by far the worst poster ever on /hpg/ or /ag/, they constantly defended the purchase of their shitty DAC, had a history of shitposting on Massdrop, got banned from SBAF, banned from head-fi, banned from the discord headphones server, is a known spazz and never listens to the advice given to get anything but Schiit. Fucking good riddance to them, the last few threads have been unbelievable cancer due to all the shitposting that goes on every time they post. Nobody likes Harbethanon they are the biggest nigger retard I've ever seen posting here and I hope they either fucking gut themselves and die or never show their retard face again.

I'm planning to run wires for a 5.2.4 atmos setup, the 4x speakers that are 18" off the walls are the heights. Do these locations make sense? I know ideally I want the height speakers to be further in, but, I can't with my ceiling. They will be about 8ft off the ground so I used Dolby's recommendations to get to this.

How does the receiver know the type of height speaker? Do I set it as "front height" and "front rears"?

Also for 4.2.4 should I do front height and front rears, or should I do middle height and rear heights? Am I able to specify that in the receiver setup?

Attached: home-theater-8-21-dimensions.jpg (4950x3510, 196K)

huge bookshelf speakers rawr

Attached: WhatsApp Image 2018-08-23 at 16.09.23.jpg (900x1600, 209K)

start with standard itu surround and place the height layer over it

Attached: 1535036988985x.png (4950x3510, 1.01M)

Thank you. The problem is my room. I really can't mount the rear speakers any other way. The heights on the right I can mount along the soffits, then the left side heights I can mount the same distance on the ceiling with a swivel bracket. Pic related.

Attached: 2018-08-04 11.33.18.jpg (4032x3024, 1.73M)

5.2.4*

yeah, height layer will work fine
I'd put the surrounds on stands close to the window and the left side corner, should be something like 110°, since I eyeballed the angle badly
might even be able to wall mount the left side surround

Great. I can get cables to that rear "thingy" that used to hold the TV (tv is now going to be moved to where it shows in the drawing) for rear speakers, but out by the windows would be tough because it's an exterior wall.

I could mount the plates (I'm going to have termination plates for every speaker run) on this area here and then have stands I use when I want to watch a movie with really good sound, then otherwise leave the bookshelf speakers on the (soon to be added) bookshelves so that the significant other factor isn't too bad.

Attached: 2018-08-04 11.33.39.jpg (4032x3024, 1.77M)

I see
well the location you're planning your surrounds right now is actually close to where the backs in 7.1 would be, so preparing wires for both positions would make sense in case you can later find a way to make it work, you'd be able to use both

I have a Pioneer VSX-502 A/V receiver with a 5.1 set up all plugged in. It sounds great, but I'm noticing that the center speaker is much louder than it should be. Any ideas on how to fix the level on my center channel? I can boost and reduce left and right but not center as far as I can tell. I'm manual-less as well (secondhand setup), and all I could find online was the service manual.

Does the price of the rca cable matter at all? It's for dac to amp

Thanks.

In the meantime for doing 5.2.4 in that positioning, would I be better off using a dipole or something more diffused? Or am I overthinking this since it isn't exactly a studio..?

dipoles only really work with a large surface around them to properly reflect in both directions, the little back wall there is probably not the best choice for it
also I think dipoles and even the multiple source per surround channel setups they try to replace sound pretty cheesy in most 'normal' living room scenarios i.e. not scoring stages or cinemas which are dry as fuck and benefit of the additional diffusion. in a normal room a direct, single speaker is beneficial, and in case you ever want to listen ti multichannel music mixes these sound completely dumb on diffuse surrounds

not really
with super cheap stuff you sometimes get crackly interconnects from oxitation or just straight up bad soldering
but with consumer or studio line level with the typical impedance bridging the cable itself has the easiest job an analog line can have, so you don't profit from anything super expensive made of space age materials

Thank you.

>buy expensive hifi
>all modern music sounds like shit
no matter how good your rig is, modern music is poorly produced & horribly mastered (with exceptions of course)

listening to music that sounds good is a pretty easy fix for that

Thoughts on ATC?

fantastic, but very expensive for basic, non-waveguided designs with a little underwhelming bass extensions on all the models that are not xboxhueg. if you want expensive british stuff might as well go all the way and get PMC

Is there an equivalent American brand (just figuring exchange rate would fuck me on all that stuff)?

Augspurger monitors and Barefoot sound are pracically the only higher end american pro brands at this point
super different design philosophies obviously, but both very good at what they do

but the price for some ATCs you get from vintageking for example isn't too bad actually, they're just as expensive over here

Should I buy a Chord Dave, a Rockna Wavedream (single ended, not balanced) a Totaldac d1core, or an MSB Discrete dac?

why is there no website for quality collection music for different genres?

one witch you like most by looks

rockna looks like some Chinese abomination
