Desktop thread

other one's hitting dead-weight status by now, so uh, i guess that's good grounds for a new one.
i haven't seen kyoko or lysander in a while, so here's to hoping that they show up this time.

delete this thread now and put screenfetch in the OP as well, and also you made this early you butthead
kyouko is probably permabanned

>screenfetch in the OP
i haven't seen 'fetch' in desktop threads for a while, not counting that *one* which was created some time back.
>permabanned
wew, really? any actual info on that or just guessing?

not gonna talk about kyouko more

the reason to put fetch is because someone will make a screenfetch thread at the same time and we'll have two threads at once

i-is this the new desktop thread?

does anybody still enjoy desktop threads?

Many thankings user!

mind the late reply, had a couple of errands to run. anyways;
>file manager
slight clusterfuck of an answer. i mainly switch between a barely-modified ranger, thunar and basic coreutils--coreutils for when i'm in the mood to type and to practice a bit of touch-typing, ranger for when i'm lazy and in the mood to use a vim control scheme and thunar in some rare cases for situations like drag-and-dropping, i guess.
>browser
somewhat modified firefox with a CSS that i change on occasion to fit my color schemes.
does this satisfy your question, ben?

newbie here, can I create an openbox hybrid that will use Gnome themes?

Just make an Openbox theme that fits with your GTK one if there isn't one already. It has very barebones theming, very easy to make one yourself if you know your way around GIMP. If you want a WM that uses GTK then consider Mutter or XFWM or something.

How do I get rid of window borders on KDE Kwin without doing this every time?
I'd like to set a keyboard shortcut for it, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

Attached: Screenshot_20180823_211025.png (552x422, 37K)

faggot

right click on window border > more actions > special window (or application setting if you want it application-wide) > appearance and fixes and there you can find it.

the fuck is this DE? how isn't this 'switch maintaining position and window size' feature in every desktop?
Also what is that arcane program running on the left?

nice, i use twm on my laptop too. imo, you should switch to all solid colors and not use the bitmap shading on inactive windows. it's a surprisingly nice user experience, isn't it?

desu i haven't really delved that deep into my twmrc and don't even know how to turn it off (or that i even could), thanks for letting me know!

what do you fags think?
passable?

New system, old hard drive. Currently in the process of installing Steam to see if Proton is a viable alternative for me. After that I'll reinstall on the SSD because this slow HDD is actually bottlenecking the CPU during big compile jobs like LLVM, and the low amount of RAM which I have to substitute with 10GB of swap isn't helping it either

Chad desktop. Every riced desktop in this thread looks completely unusable for daily use.

No wonder youre still stuck on it after a month. Bet you have been compiling your DE nonstop the entire time.

It's pretty comfy

what theme is that?

>great theme.
its the default one that comes with the system-twmrc so i decided to color mod the ocean background and color match my terminal to it because i like the seafom green color so much
thanks for noticing

oh wew, wasn't aware of that one. thank you!

no problem. hey does the shape on the left side of ur titlebars do anything, or just for show?

a cute lil' dot that sticks whatever window, which then makes it visible on all workspaces. usually i have two workspaces open but i keep ncmpcpp open most of the time, so keeping it sticked for easier access on both is somewhat practical.

thats awesome.

it's pretty damn nifty in its own way, yeah. only started using it a while back when i got into the habit of multiple workspaces.
unrelated question, btw--how good is herbst? i've seen you using it for pretty much as long as you've been in desktop threads. from what i understand, it's a normal tiling WM but with the addition of the whole tags thing. anything else that seperates it from the rest?

I always come back to Cinnamon in the end desu.

Attached: 1.jpg (3840x2160, 771K)

Attached: Screenshot (13).png (1440x900, 318K)

i've never really liked how bloated cinnamon is. is it better on lm 19? cause i was using lm for a while last year

On fresh boot it takes up ~600mb of RAM, Xubuntu takes up around 500mb on my system (if I switch the Xfce panel for tint2 then it's like 350mb though). I don't really feel like that's too crazy of a bloat.

i love herbst. by tags i think u mean frames which is what i feel makes it different. it is a sort of manual tiling. each frame is seperate inside of one workspace. the is 4 different ways to tile all vertical, all horizontal, idk what u call top right but it makes squares, and top left where each window goes on top of eachother. you can also save a layout and keybind it which is what i usually do. there is also a floating mode where all windows float, no single window floating while others tile (i wish there was this). herbst takes some getting used to but ill probably never leave is as my go to wm.
>pic related is frames
