IRC is already dead. The bouncers mask how really dead all the communities are. There can be 100-1k users in any chat and in reality only 5-10 actually talk and never at the same time, they just drop a line into the chat and someone responds hours later. It's quite sad. You could probably easily cull 70-85% of the community out as bots who are just programmed to connect to servers the user has lost interest in but has no motivation to kill the irc bouncer.

Irc is still the only option if war or a disaster strikes. Irc servers etc are so easy to put up and they are not dependent of any commercial properietary bullshit like Discord etc.
