Have you tried detachable headphone cables yet? keep some spare audio cables at home, and it's quick fix. As far as iems go at least KZ ZS3, ZS5 and KZ6 has detachable cable. For over-ears there's at least Superlux HD-681 Evo for sub-50 Takstar Pro 82 for sub-100 category. It gets more common feature in more expensive headphones afaik.

Get something with detachable cables and more importantly decent customer service. Or something wireless.

Interested in hearing other people's experiences on this, but I've had absolutely shit luck with Sennheiser's support. The best experience with cables I've had is with V-Moda, who have kevlar cables (which I've still managed to ruin), and send you replacement ones for free with basically no questions asked other than what color you want.

I've had mine for 4~ years now and it shows no signs of wear.
If the guy is breaking the cable not the cans then yeah, I agree, beyers may not be the best choice since they aren't detachable. Still miles better than some other cables I've had to deal with though. (I'm looking at you hifiman, but at least yours are detachable)

What's a cheap DAC? Yes I know they are placebo in terms of quality, I just need to replace a broken DAC on something else.

Don't think mine is interesting, bit i've never had problems with cables, be it Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, AKG, Audio Technica etc. But i agree, the V-MODA ones are quite durable.

Same here, six years with the DT880 and no cable problems (or any other kind really). I did got new pads though, they saw constant use ove the years and the older ones were getting a bit shallow.

They use those because that's what valve and the players agreed upon for a headset that cancels some crowd noise while not being weighty and uncomfortable like headsets that some tournaments like esl enforce.
You're best bet would be to get a nice pair of headphones and for a mic you could do a desk mic, boompro (if you're headphones allow) or a modmic

Wanted to buy new over-ear headphones, max 200 euros. Had the cheapest superlux but after those broke I ended up with Grados. I sold the Grados because they weren't practical and very uncomfortable, they sounded great though.

So now I want new ones. Should I buy the akg k702 for €115 or should I just buy the Superlux hd668b for €30 instead? How notable is the difference?

How do you feel about hd598s as budget phones

Tbh I don’t understand why so many hate AKG K7XX series, they say that it has super bright treble etc. but I don’t really hear it. Sure, they’re on airy side of sound, but it’s nowhere near Grado levels of brightness, not even close.

I got hd598 and years later hd600, I could have skipped the hd598, in hindsight. So I'd say get the hd600 if you can afford them at all.
The hd5xx aren't absolute trash (they sounded good compared to anything else I had listened to) but are only stopgap at best. The hd600 are an order of magnitude better.
