>specify which authentication type

Where did the free software touch you?

>open wifi

or just use networkmanager?

or wifi-menu

>be me
>"I use Linux"
>place laptop down at table
>slide chair gently back
>smoothly sit down in the chair
>adjust clothing if necessary
>adjust posture
>gently open the screen on my laptop
>while typing in my password, the 4g LTE automatically connects
>I have internet before I'm even finished logging in

Linux mint/debian/ubuntu/fedora user connects to university wifi
>open wifi
>connects

Works for me

ubuntu/manjaro user connects to uni wifi:
open wifi
type user name and password
change wep to wpa

dis

>change wep to wpa

wow wow HOLD UP

too hard for winbabbies

Imagine being this inept.

Maybe you should just go buy a Macbook Pro 2018.

what is wicd?

Linux can tell you're not a jobless n33t. It's trying to kick you back where you belong. To Windows.

Don't forget "download and install non-free firmware because the drivers are not considered ideologically sound"
still better than Windows 10 you goy
>can't connect to internet
>visit 15 websites before you open reddit to see if anyone has had the problem

0/10

strangely, where i study eduroam just werks with linux and android (at least until lollipop, for some reason it began acting weird under oreo), but requires you to download an exe to setup the network on windows. funny, isn't it?

>gentoo
>wpa_cli
>set eap peap
>scan
>select name
>enter username and password
>it just werks

>be me
>buy windows 8 laptop with atheros ar5bwb222 wifi card (with basically no way to know what chip is in the laptop before buying)
>windows 8.1 comes along
>wifi has random disconnects
>new drivers for win 8.1 that introduce this issue
>check ubuntu on a live usb stick
>wifi works ootb, drivers are foss and included in the kernel
>no problems
Had to wait for windows 10 1703 to include a working driver version, and every driver from atheros site was dropping connection every few minutes

well my adapter used to work until a boot where it now says "wrong password" (nothing changed) but there's no fucking way. so i booted back to windows it's even more ludicrous

>tfw not a tard so everything just werks

arch linux
>selects wifi
>enter username and password
>connects

This, Eduroam just werks on GNU/Linux, whereas you have to download some shit on Windows which doesn't even work half the time.

>university WiFi
>”solution” provided by cheapest vendor in an attempt by your university to maximize profit from your bloated tuitions
>tech support provided by first year MIS students who will drop out next summer

works on my machine

wifi menu is easier

What actually happens:

Linux:
>install and fully update within 30 minutes
>connect to WiFi
>get job done

Windows:
>buy bloatware'd botnet 10 PC
>download the last acceptable wi ndows version (7)
>install takes about 3 hours
>try to connect to WiFi
>no drivers installed
>use other PC to download said drivers
>connect to WiFi
>windows update
>.....
>windows updates
>updates installing
>reboot
>configuring windows
>installing updates
>configuring updates
>reboot
>installing updates
>this goes on for a few days
>play candycrush or whatever gaymes are popular with you toddlers these days
>get virus
>install av
>play more gaymes
>get virus again
>cry 'but muh av'
>lol get paid version pleb
>pay
>get virus
>repeat this process until you grow up
>install and fully update within 30 minutes
>connect to WiFi
>get job done

Did you really need to make a second thread about how Linux was too difficult to figure out for you?
