what do you mean?

They have their quirks, I guess. The matrix plugin for weechat is really nice. I still use Riot on my phone, or if I want to post images or markdown or something.

Reference server is highly unoptimized and its alternatives are really behind.
>Riot
I especially hate web based ones

Telegram app, is good;
Gajim, for XMPP;
Hexchat, for IRC;
Your browser©, for mail;

>Reference server is highly unoptimized and its alternatives are really behind.
Ah, gotcha. Alpha as in quality. I thought you were implying there was newer software that no one was using.

I'm not a big fan of Riot either, but it's one of the few clients that supports most of the features of Matrix, and one of the few to support initial registration. I wish they'd focus on letting you register some other way so that Riot didn't become the face of Matrix. I've got friends who call it Riot instead of Matrix, and I worry they think it's just some flavor of the month chat client because of it, not realizing that this is like the new IRC.

good post, can recommend irc with FiSH and xmpp with omemo, the latter especially for phone-pc communication
