A lot of these are either retarded easy shit that you'd do in a college intro class (Dijkstra's Algorithm, the Caesar Cipher cracker, chan aggregator) or retarded difficult/time-intensive and you'll never bother to finish them (OpenGL FPS Engine, all the ones where you have to write your own programming language, all the AI and neural network shit).
There needs to be more mid-level ones on here that are challenging but actually doable by somebody who does other things besides this challenge.

elastic producer/consumer relation:
something produces information, something consumes it.
examples that come to mind are a print queue or a file writing queue.
can be easily implemented by having a class with a stack that pops from stack and performs write operations with the data popped, and another class that pushes to the writer's stack.
the writing class is the consumer, the class the pushes information to be writted is the producer
