Jow Forums here we need your help on concluding whether these new "GUID" filenames that have been popping up all over the site in the last week are actually from iPhone posters or not
they look like this: 1E5DA142-6997-4F80-BD2D-FHAJK8JC843S
users claim that these are the default filenames when posting to Jow Forums through iPhones. others theorize it could be an information agency harvesting data from the site.
Here. Now fuck off. Not everything is a conspiracy, idiot. If they were to do that, they wouldn't make it so obvious. That's a common way images from actual photo cameras are named.
>That's a common way images from actual photo cameras are named. No, it's not. The only place it is common is in the Apple eco system. I refuse to believe they all come from iPhone, and iPad, posters but rather it's common for OSX posters too.
But the commonality remains Apple.
Noah Stewart
>but rather it's common for OSX posters too Why would this be? Unlike iPhones, OS X has a normal filesystem, and files are named whatever the user types in when saving them, or whatever name the browser says it has which on Jow Forums looks like 157439861832.jpg or whatever.
Parker Moore
It could be something during posting that causes the filename change.
>from iPhone posters It appears so, but look at it this way - now it's very easy to detect tards: >he is a phoneposter >AND he is an applefag

Cuck off puto

What a paranoid little nazi. Yes racist, that's an iPhone filename. It just means the cess/pol/ is filling with fagPhone posters. No the big bad joos aren't infiltrating Jow Forums, they wouldn't sink so low, besides they have other means of tracking your every movement, and it's 3000% possible they already know everything about your sad little existence. Now be kind and gtfo
People post from iphones because they're plebs and you're on a particularly pleb catering board. Also they are easy to ban evade and make incredibly shitty posts on, which is why you see them on Jow Forums often.
John Clark
They're also popular with cucks, so Jow Forums would naturally see a lot of them.
This is the answer. It appears that what iOS, and OSX does, is that the file explorer reads the metadata and uses the filename found in that to display to the user, while using a unique filename to prevent collisions in the iCloud storage. The result is that once the image is synced to iCloud it gains the GUID filename which is what appears when it is uploaded. It's possible that using some other cloud services will result in a similar effect, but this has not been observed. For now all we know for sure is that GUID filename posters are definitely Apple users, and they are responsible for a huge quantity of the shitposting and bad threads.

I think images from iPhones, tumblr and reddit have the same GUID structure. you fucking plebs
