I have been advocating for privacy and been against botnets like google and facebook for quite a while, as well as using free and open source software like linux and keepassxc, but it recently i started wondering, what exactly am I fighting for? I never had a problem with companies and the governmenr tracking me before is it worth giving up on so much just because of a possibility it could be uses against me in the future? Does privacy really matters
Those billion dollar corporations are rich because of your data. While you have to count each penny you make and may even be happy with 300k a year, that will never add up to the money these companies make off of everyone’s data, FOR FREE. You’re literally working for free, and that’s enough to have me watch my privacy.
Also, the equifax hack showed that companies will never be reprimanded for releasing your extremely sensitive data, instead you’ll get a billion dollar “forced” contract as punishment. The only way to fight back is to stop arming them.

Its not like I'm just giving away my privacy, I'm doing so in exchange for the services they provide me, now is it worth it? Does it make a difference in the end?
Data breaches are of a security issue, aren't they? I know you can't have privacy without security, but is it fair to call data leaks a privacy issue?

fuck off shill saged

>what exactly am I fighting for? peace of mind, autonomy, freedom from being judged for your activities and interests.

>instead you’ll get a billion dollar *instead they’ll get a billion dollar

>Does privacy really matter? Not really. Also, Hiroshimoot harvests more info from your browser than W10 ever did on Basic telemetry settings, and unlike corporations which keep all the data they gather private to actually use for analyzing usage and how to fix stability and add features, Hiroshimoot straight up sells it to the highest bidder.
Anyone claiming to care about privacy and uses Jow Forums is a lying hypocritical piece of shit. Prove me wrong. PROTIP: You can't.
It only matters if you're downloading child pornography.

I wish I was shilling dude, I need to reassure myself now more than ever that this is a serious issue and I didnt waste precious years of my life fight for. Tell me user, why does privacy matter?
But I already had that before knowing how many third party scripts are being loaded into my browser and how much google and microsoft tracked me, I had more peace before i knew about all of this, I'm starting to question if this was really worth it
Lincoln Mitchell
Doesn't matter what you did, because Hiroshima tracked you and sold it to Google and Microsoft. :^)
Blake Mitchell
>I had more peace before i knew about all of this well you no longer have the option of blissful ignorance, do you? You know now and you can't un-know it. So you can either stop it or not.
Nicholas Roberts
yes you stupid fuck
Jackson Foster
He can't track you if you block third party scripts you fucking brainlets
Charles Morris
Honeatly I dont even feel like it makes a difference anymore, yes I dont have that blissful ignorance anymore, but it would only take a few days until i get used to browsing without having to selectively allow scripts to load in my browser I'm losing to the botnet and I can't see any real reason to try and fight back
They’re both a privacy and a security issue in that regard.

>Does privacy really matter Yes, if you care about your future, and the future of the world that you'll leave to (your) children.
Most people living in the 1st world today are of weak spirit. As these companies that invade our privacy force us in bubbles/echo chambers where we encounter people whose political view closely matches ours. This not only leads to halting your development of your mental prowess, but you can see how people already react violently when they are forced to face actual opponents in real life. Because they have been in that bubble for so long, they believe that their view is "correct", that it is the view of the majority. So they perceive these opponents as a minority and they view them as extremists. It's likely that this is where most of those "nazi" and "commie" comments come from.
You've other problems like social credit score and data breaches among others. Imagine paying more for car insurance because you watch a lot of motorsport programs. Not being called back for that one job application because they concluded that you're better at golf than they are. You are fighting for the right to research bombs without being raided. You are fighting for the right to consume media that is shunned in public without damaging your reputation. You are fighting for a world where you can easily find peace and cover from the eye that would otherwise be stuck to your back 24/7. You are fighting for freedom, and not just the freedom of your mind.
Benjamin Jones
Yes yes it does.
William Ross
>OP: asks question >(you): yes >OP: why? >(you): because yes, fuck you
Bentley Brown
It does, true, bu is that really used? Honestly, I can't name a case where it I saw it happening to someone, and when it did it was a really isolated situation. We're surrounded by dangers everday, but we dont have the time to worry about all of them.
Maybe you're right, especially since the breach exposed personal details of the users, maybe that is the purpose of caring about privacy, not allowing companies to have your data so they dont try anything bad with it, even if there is a small chance if it happening and you having to give up a lot of convenience in order to achieve it
In all this time browsing Jow Forums i've never seen such a well structured and truthful post, you reminded me of everything I'm against in this modern world, and most of all, you gave me hope to keeo fighting against those things again, I'm sorry for this faggotry of a thread, but whoever you are user, thank you. You saved me
