I use lyft, costs less annually.

I've never gotten pulled over or stopped me from opportunities so I've neglected to get one.

Probably should tbqh.

>op thinks he needs a driver's license to drive a car

>can't spend a measly 100 bucks for a licence
>spends 60k on uni

I'm afraid of cars :(

Public services are efficient yoo. I'm finishing my cs bachelor this month and I made my driving license only a month ago just because I had some spare time (21yr old). The only reason I can think of doing it earlier is because after 3 years of dl we can have alcohol in our blood (< 0.3)

I spent thousands of dollars getting my commercial drivers license but I still don't have a degree.

joke's on you, i dropped out of free state uni in europe. and i actually have a driver's license.

in europe, top-tier uni is free if you're not a mongoloid in high-school

I feel personally attacked rn

Where I live it costs less to study than to get a drivers license. I pay about 20€ for a semester (basically just handling charges), but I had to spend about 2k on my drivers license.

I drive my car about once every 3 weeks. Have a driver's license. Live in city. Walk to work. Shopping en route.

Driving is for poor people.

Lyft and Uber are cheaper insurance would rape me and I don't trust myself driving a car.

In my shitty country a drivers license is costly. It costs an average of 1300€ unless you're really decent and live in a place where driving isn't a fucking chore.

Or you can be like me and actually be pretty shitty at driving, spend over 2000 and prefer walking, but get a fucking license because any job requires that these days for some reason. Hell I'm ok with public transportation. Why does this have to be such a bitch

I have a licence but I see no reason to drive all the time. Cars are literally the greatest money sink ever devised by humankind. Especially in my country where the government has about 20 kinds of taxes etc. to rape your wallet. Also
>people are poor and keep buying used cars that are often 20+ years of age, emission standards be damned
>since they are poor they spend less on maintenance
>most of the cars look like they could fall apart any second
>also they drive aggressively, don't keep their distance and generally are stupid
I'm not risking my life because some poorfag hasn't changed the brake oil in his wooden commiebox for the fifth year in a row.

In America you need a license unless you live in a big city. Driving is not scary, its very easy. Insurance costs a lot but its a necessary evil if you want opportunity. I drive 250 miles a week

Well let me rephrase that, you could do an electric bike / moped / bicycle to fill the gap (especially if you legally can't drive for w/e reason), but unless you do a bus + bicycle hybrid its going to be tough up north

I live in a small city (population < 12,000) and I can just walk to work. I'm 33, btw.

This interests me. I know getting a license on the US is pretty easy (you can even do both tests in a single day), but how much does it cost for people outside the US?

I'm from Brazil. It costs betwenn US$ 800 and US$ 1,200 to get a license here, and you waste at least 4 months of your life. If you don't pass on the first time, you have to pay even more.

but muh free uni is socialism and that's anti burger >:CCC it's not free your just sTYEALING from people who EARNED it with HARD WORK and LOGIC and FACTS entitled milental

270 for starters, you get 10 driving lessons, then each lesson costs 26€. You can waste a lot of time and a lot of money for sure, and you get 3 chances for both tests (so if you fail the theory test once you only get one chance per test) and if you fuck that up, you have to pay around 200-300

It ain't for poor people. And you have to consider what is the point of getting a fucking license if you can't afford the car afterwards.

Here in Brazil, the most common license is AB (A for motorcycles, B for cars). To even get into the car, you need the "theory class", which is 45 hours (5 days). You apply to the written test. After you pass the written test, you get a "learner's license". You need 20 classes for motorcycles, and 25 for cars. 1/4 of the classes are to be held at night. You can only have 3 classes per day.

If you live in a state capital city, there are tests everyday, while in other cities only once per month. Even so, if you fail the test, you have to pay more and wait 15 days to try again.

Corruption was (and still is) everywhere. First, people paid for the classes but didn't show up (it's a waste of time if the person already drives, anyway). So, they made so classes can only be taken after biometry. Then, people just showed up at the beginning and end of the class, to have their biometry taken. Because of that now there is a system with a camera inside the car, where you and the driving instructor are filmed at all times. If you or the driving instructor exit the camera's view for more than 10 minutes, the whole class is void.

That's not even saying of the people who just pay to not take the test. This one is still common, because the test cars are provided by the driving schools, not by the driving department. So they don't need to have a camera inside during the test, and people pay the driving examiner.

All in all, people pay up just to get rid of it. You can pay as little as US$ 40 to get rid of the test, instead of failing and paying US$ 50 to schedule another test, and US$ 200 for 5 extra classes.

All education is free in my country :^)

driving will be for reckless outcasts in 8 years and banned in 15 years anyway

>live in the population quarantine zone
>not the poor one
hearty chuckle

I have a license and a car?

>he fell for the suburban meme

You don't need a license to drive...

>save thousands by not driving
>save the environment
>stay healthy
>drivers (or cagers as I call them) always mad and jealous of me as they go into debt and risk their lives driving their glorified mobility scooters around
Loving every laugh.

I got a license for free in the military. Both trucks and small cars.
