Both are arguably the NPCs' OS. MAC OX is just them "choosing" to use path 2 in stead of path 1
I use Windows on my laptop and rip out all of the analytics, and firewall all outbound traffic to MS servers, just for compatibility.
But I run Linux and BSD for all of my network and systems infrastructure.
