Why do sites like instagram make things so hard to save? I had to finally start using greasemonkey to download images

Click on the lock button in the URL bar, then click around on that menu until a window with various tabs comes out.
Go to the "media" tab and there should be a list of all the media files of the page, including your image.
I don't save instagram images often so this method is fine for me. Otherwise I'd just look for some userscript or something like that.
For videos, YoutubeDLG (it's youtube-dl with a gui, you'll find it on github) works perfectly. You can even input the instagram account and it will download all its videos.

you don't use the inspector lmao you have to go to the Network tab (in Firefox, not sure what it's called in Chrome). there you'll get a direct link to literally every asset loaded by the website. if it's in your browser they can't do absolutely anything to hide it from you

I made a AutoHotKey script to deloss jpgs into pngs using this technique. It automatically detects image borders in a lot of programs and elsewise tries to do it by visual identification. All I need to do to get a lossless image is hit Win+I and it saves everything I can currently see. I've been thinking about cleaning it up and releasing it but there's quite a bit of code to go through.
