How do I own my own domain?

How do I own my own domain? I don't mean paying GoDaddy to rent something out under their ToC, where it can be taken from me at any time. How do I truly OWN my own domain, the way GoDaddy themselves do?

what good is having your own tld if you're still routing all your traffic via 3rd parties?

still dependent on ICANN
this. you can have "mydomain.penis" now for absolutely $0 (dollars)!

>where it can be taken from me at any time.

Normally it can't.
Domains can be worth millions, and be vital for the survival of a company, so a registrar can't just take it from you.
Godaddy is the shittiest of shittiest registrars (why the fuck people use them is beyond me), but I don't think even they will take domains from their customers.

Even if you forgot to pay for your annual renewal you will have months to correct your mistake (while your domain is parked) before they put the domain up for auction.

I don't think they even pull domains that are used for child porn or other illegal activities.
They can get blocked by DNS of course, but I think the pedophiles and drug dealers still own the blocked domains.
Not 100% sure about that though.

By having 12 domains registered independently of each other that all redirect to one place.

domains can be seized by US Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement (ICE)

I think all you need is your own DNS, no?

I don't think there is anything stopping countries like China, Russia or North Korea from just having a national DNS independent of ICANN, with their own database of domain names.
In fact that nearly happened when America tried to make ICANN a US government playtoy a couple of years ago.

noice

Only domains that rely on US administration. You can't do that with a .ch for example.

can you unban krautchan

Namecoins

What do you mean by ToC?

In any case, I would suggest using a different domain registrar who has a better record of siding with its customers. I've had good experiences with Gandi, and I've heard Namecheap is good.

You can't quite "own" your domain. The yearly cost you pay for a domain name goes partially to the registrar (e.g. GoDaddy, Gandi, Namecheap), part to the registry (e.g. Verisign, Donuts), and part to ICANN. So even GoDaddy still has to pay Verisign and ICANN.

>Normally it can't.
Ask Weev about dailystormer's issues staying on the internet.

have your own server and host your site on it

i tried that but all i could get was 192.0.0.1 not an actually domain name

Become your own TLD and DNS root. Or use OpenNIC which saves you the hassle.

you have to own the internet. the internet is just a set of interconnected networks, each of which have their own domain and allow outside access

njal still own that domain name. Not OP. is the correct answer.

>how do I own my own website?
>hurrrr just use another faggot service that you wont own either
Jesus christ.

>When you buy a domain in our system, we're actually purchasing it for ourselves.
Which is what all domain name registrars do.

>We will be the actual owners of the domain, it's not an ownership by proxy as found with all other providers.
Actually, it's still ownership by proxy as found with all other providers.

>However, you will still have the full control over the domain name.
Which is what pretty much all domain name registrars do.

>You can either use our information, our nameservers or you can go with your custom data.
Which you can do with any decent fucking domain name registrar.
