They wanted to make a new UI paradigm that was also lightweight (so they could use them on tablets). Thus Metro came to be.

This backfired because tablets didn't replace computers as some people at MS were expecting. Nearly all end users of Windows 8 complained about the UI because they were using computers, and it was horrible to use Metro on them.

I was talking about most everyday user that use only Window. Not Jow Forums (not the majority at least).

I primarily used Windows at my workplace. When employees (engineer) come to me because to complain to switch his new workstation to Windows 7 because it has Windows 10. Bring the point about his privacy (own a pixel not jailbreak).

I'm not a fan of Microsoft at all but when people talk about Windows 7 vs Windows 10. I end up being the devil advocate. There are both made by Microsoft. If you don't want them to have your data, just don't use any of those. They recently release on update for Windows7/8.1 to start gathering data on this systems too. If you want privacy, don't use Windows.
For the UI (aero vs metro/fluent(neon)), it's completely subjective. Control Panel vs "Settings" need some time to get use to it.
Everything else is objectively better on windows 10 (performance, boot, recovery, management for company, etc).
And if you're a gAyMeR, it got DirectX12.

Get use to Windows 10 or put Windows 7 to the trash and switch for a real FREE alternative.

Designing usable software is much easier when you don't consider basic UX and consistency, this way they can release software without testing and save a ton of cost.

I don't think so: all other proprietary desktop operating systems don't behave like Windows 10 does. See macOS: it's not ideal but it's way more sensitive to user settings than Windows 10. It's not sold as a service, nor it was built from the ground up to datamine you.

Welp, guess we just had different experiences IRL. My friends and co-workers are way more vocal against Google than they are about MS. Those who use Windows stay on 7.

Sometimes they have to. I'm currently locked on Windows 7 since ~6 months ago because I need to work with a Windows-only proprietary software. It's very resource intensive and a VM can't handle it.

They are optional updates that you don't need to install. You can just uncheck them when updating. Alternatively, you can disable the Costumer Experience Improvement Program on Windows 7, which actually stops your OS from phoning home. You don't have anything similar on Windows 10 that actually works.

The performance one is debatable. Also I'm skeptical of the claim that Windows 10 is more maintainable for IT management. I've only seen workstations breaking because of Windows 7 updates once (an update fucked up Virtualbox instances). This has happened more times with W10 than I can count.
