Linus has always been very strict with what does and doesn't go into the kernel. Companies and kernel developers submit drivers and patches but even then, Linus still had to give approval before merging. If Linus didn't approve of the change for one reason or another, that patch would not get merged, no question about it. With Linus gone, stability of the kernel is at risk. Even if Linus comes back after a few months, he will need to review countless numbers of merged patches and clean up the shit that gets sprayed all over his kernel.
