Directx is directly tied to windows, this is by design. If you want other operating systems to be "game-worthy" then advocate OpenGL or some other platform independent graphics library.

Quite frankly, who even cares if Linux becomes mainstream or not? The people who use linux enjoy using linux for whatever reason or find that it perfectly complements their work flow. Linux is already mainstream when it comes to almost any other application but 'Gaming PC' and the sacrifices that would have to be made to make linux based operating systems viable for this role is unpalatable to some.

Don't get me wrong, user. I would love to have a bigger game library on my Linux install. But as someone who has been a part of open source communities for a long time, I have seen many community developed software go to shit once it was overrun by people coming from unrelated interests.

The "gaming community" is nothing but pure, weaponized cancer and it should remain irrelevant to the whole linux community.

I'm not talking about gamers themselves contributing but linux's marketshare becoming somewhat relvant and people deciding to do so on that.

Linux market is in servers and workstations, where people get a lot of money selling support to companies that use Linux.

Making the system be more "gaming friendly" is something that would benefit only gamers and game developers thereby they should be the ones working on it.
I know Valve is doing a great job pushing gaming on linux forwards, because they don't like how Microsoft tries to have a monopoly on the desktop gaming market by sabotaging alternatives instead of improving.

Besides that, I don't see what Canonical, Redhat or any other important Linux developer has to gain by making Linus more popular among desktop gamers.
