But having an ftp server at home is as simple as it gets
If you have any old laptop or pc, or a raspberry pi even
You can slap linux on it and repurpose them into a server
It wont get loaded, cause you'll be the only one using it

but it can be your own private storage instead of the google botnet. cloud is just cheaper usually, and it doesn't make a difference who stores the data if you encrypt the files before uploading
