Hey Jow Forums, I'm installing Windows 7, I have SP1, but what should I do about updates? Just keep it as it is, or update and then remove spyware updates one by one or what? Is there an ISO that already has the good updates but doesn't have the bad ones? I'm sure someone made something like that but I can't find it anywhere.

disable them
disable win defender
keep the firewall if you want
disable superfetch

Starting October 2016 telemetry (spying) became impossible to disable in Windows 7 and 8.1 because Microsoft changed the way it distributes updates for those two operating systems.

So just do vanilla SP1 and turn off updates completely?

Should I try to get an ISO with updates prior to Oct 2016 then?

>don't install rollups
Wow that was hard

>tfw uninstalled Windows 7 on my laptop for Windows 10
>had the Ultimate edition
>stuck with 10 on my laptop and it's an unusable and buggy mess
>stuck with a messy 8.1 installation on my main PC with my harddrives filled up
what should i do

Reinstall Windows 7 on both?

talking about windows, why cant i install xp on my ryzen rig
running setup.exe from windows opens the installer but install xp is greyed out?
is that because i ran it from windows or is it a sata thing

What is a good browser for Windows 7? What about other programs?

Also this would be great >Is there an ISO that already has the good updates but doesn't have the bad ones? - how come it doesn't exist? Surely someone created a Win7 "distribution" that's ready to install with all the nasty shit disabled?

Is there at least a Win7 Jow Forums guide?

I don't have an installation CD, only a serial

As far as I'm concerned using an edited ISO is a one way ticket to Botnetland.

> Is there at least a Win7 Jow Forums guide?
Read the /sqt/ pastebins and/or the wiki.

>So just do vanilla SP1 and turn off updates completely?
Here's what I do:
>install Win7 pure vanilla (RTM)
>install SP1
>install Convenience Rollup
>done

Use Simplix Update Pack
forum.oszone.net/thread-257198.html
Use the magnet link. It's curated, it has no telemetry or GWX crap in it, it has the official generic USB3 and NVMe drivers as well.

Already did, there's not much there.

What do Windows updates even do? I always just used default installation files and never needed anything else.

What are the actual differences between Windows 7 and 8.1? Windows 8 just feels like 7 with a bunch of functionality removed. Also, i'll never forgive Microsoft for removing Aero and all it's features because a crappy ARM chipset for Windows RT couldn't even run it.

8 has crap like OneDrive and Store intecgration which can't be removed. Cloud integration, Microsoft account bullshit, etc.
8 has a bug in DX9 where it can only use 4GB of VRAM.
8 can't disable desktop composition.
Broken shadow volume UI on consumer versions.
METRO crap which can't be bypassed.
And this loltastic bug: (screenshot)

What? How? How do you fuck up something this much?

>What do Windows updates even do? I always just used default installation files and never needed anything else.
Same.

Should it be installed after, before or instead of SP1?

Leave, don't come back

Over the SP1 image. But you can use it to install SP1 as well if you have the large SP1 update separately and put them in the same folder. Better just get the SP1 image.

For batch installing past updates (i.e. after a fresh install) use WSUS Offline with the "Use 'security only updates' instead of 'quality rollups'" option checked:
download.wsusoffline.net/

For newly released security only updates use this:
github.com/Wyse-/UnlimitedUpdateWorks

create one then?

I'll get an SP1 iso, I've been using a default W7 one for ages.

SP1 doesn't have the spyware in it already? Can someone answer please?

what spyware

Telemetry shit was post SP1.

Then why don't people just use SP1? What is good about the updates?

Haven't delved much into the matter but I guess security updates.
Just why people don't use XP anymore.

How about you, I don't know, download a Win 7 image? Or you can always install Gentoo.

Where do you even get a SP1 iso?

The thing is, even if there was, could you really trust any image like that? You might think you've avoided Microsoft's botnet, but someone else has installed worse shit on your machine.

Upgrade to windows 10. Don't be an idiot; you'll be leaving your ass flapping in the wind.

Windows 7 is crap for today's standarts. Only in case your machine doesn't support any newer version of Windows you shouldn't be using it.

Stop recommending russian botnet dumb femanon

>Upgrade to windows 10
>Don't be an idiot

You're right. Using windows makes you an idiot. Using an unsafe version of windows that ~%40 of people use, makes you a retard. Are you in the latter category?

I thought more than 40% of people used W10.

>his windows isn't updated with the latest security updates
>his windows doesn't have the latest DirectX for muh games
>using deprecated software

I thought you were better than this Jow Forums

See then, I don't know how to get it except TPB.

No, it's more like %20.

>noargument.jpg

Torrent an 'official' iso and verify the md5/sha256 checksum against known safe ones.

>>Torrent an 'official' iso
Where?

>Torrent
Windows gives away free VM images, butt-pirate.

Where?

>What is google
Dumb faggot...

I only found a site where you have to enter some security code.

Then enter your social security number along with your name and address. Microsoft gives away free VM images. Maybe you should consider paying someone to help you, or buy a new pc with windows or macos.

>Microsoft gives away free VM images.
It doesn't unless you enter the number.

I bet you're real easy to scam.

Don't install Win 7.

You can thank me later.

There's no better alternative.

For retards, yeah.

Still waiting for that better alternative.

Is it possible to get security updates past Oct 2016 without the Spyware-crap?

It's called a firewall dipshit.

Install gentoo.

>It's 1992

You need to go back.

>Firewalls create a closed system!
\v\

There's two SP1 versions how do I know which one I need?
