Why is there such a large overclocking culture...

Why is there such a large overclocking culture? Shouldn't processors play your fucking games without the need to lash your CPU like a pack horse over the prairie?

Humans are intrinsically greedy. They want more.

I agree with you, in fact I hate "gamer" transformers RGB aesthetic.
>I'm gonna oc muh CPU, buy new cooling
What you get?
>3 more fps and 2% more in muh benchmarks

I actually utilize it in sound engineering software.
You have no idea how demanding some of these little fucks can be on single threaded performance.

Overclocking actually gives me a great ROI.
Gamerfags deserve the rope in a gas chamber.

higher clockspeeds result in better, and more noticable, performance OUTSIDE of gaymen.

also, it’s like modding cars but for failed sons.

>not squeezing free performance from your hardware
>in 2018 where it's literally braindead easy and takes 1 hour of your time
Imagine beings this dumb. Might as well buy apple products, goyim.

>Why is there such a large overclocking culture?
there isn't. you can delete your thread now.

Except there clearly is?

>Why is there such a large overclocking culture?
intel shills it because its the only thing they can do to make their garbage look better

>also, it’s like modding cars but for failed sons
It was my dad who taught me how to build a pc, overclock, linux, etc...
So where does that put me?

>free performance
How is requiring to buy better cooling "free"?

>spending hundreds and hundreds on cooling and unlocked processors/chipsets = getting more from what you already have

Overclocking is pretty much fine tuning.
>Every chip is of different quality
>Manufacturers clock them to ensure that even the worst chips run OK with some safety margin
>Your chip is likely not the worst of the batch
>All you do is figure out how fast it can actually run and use it at those clocks

Not required with AMD stuff.

This checks out.

Because most games are unoptimized garbage

>ryzen
>overclocking

>current gen AMD terrible at overclocking
>suddenly overclocking is a waste of time

lol

>yes good goy, spend more shekels to unlock overclocking features

>Company sets the clock speed to run at its best potential out of the box
>complain because they didn't squeeze you an extra hundred dollars to push the hardware that you bought to its Mac potential

>le happy merchant strawman
this is your brain on brand loyalty

Most of the people I've known who mod cars are the failed son tho. Almost invariably uneducated white trash

You don't have to, but it's super easy and free. If you could get 20% more HP from your car by pushing a button, wouldn't you?

no? why would I want to push my car to the limit thus reducing its life span?

Because, aside from the bullshit Intel pulled with locking chip clocks without a K label, overclocking was mostly about buying cheaper chips and betting that you can make them at least as well as higher end chips, thus getting better performance for your money in the long term, even if you upgrade frequently, for a fairly small initial investment. The people who specifically go crazy on water coolers and LEDs are another beast.

>increasing heat for more performance
Has always been a meme

It's illogical to not make use of free extra performance.

what software?

free performance

where do you think this performance comes from, out of think air? are you this unstoppably stupid?

RGB tacky shit is a whole different issue

It's about squeezing the most out of your hardware and dick measuring

I'm a huge pussy: the post

> taking care of your shit is being a pussy
grow up zoomer

>increased likelihood of random bit flips
>decreased CPU lifespan
No thanks.

Now compare a 1700 stock vs overclocked using the stock cooler. Perfectly reasonable to expect 3.7ghz under full load. That's a 15.5% uplift over the stock all core 3.2ghz turbo without sacrificing the max single thread performance. Good chips can get to 3.8ghz on the stock cooler even. You could also look at the 1600. Comparing the X skus stock vs overclocked is retarded, they're close enough to max potential to where memory is more important.
