Visual Basic looks comfy and aestetic, too bad the language itself was quite limited.
I want a Visual Lisp so bad...

My first attempts at fucking with code when I was 10 or so, unfortunately I never went past just breaking things without really understanding what I was doing.

They don't make programming languages and IDEs like they used to.
Anthony Foster
It was too powerful, it enabled 13 year old kids to make legit programs that put enterprise grade programs to shame. They had to shut it down.
James Diaz
man, oldschool VB is really fucking easy
shit fucking blows for anything approaching a large project, but for slapping together a quick GUI to do some task, it's fucking great
it is shit
but it's easy
my first experience with programming as a kid was trying to run shit from an old BASIC book I found in the library from the early 80s in MS Access (worked surprisingly well too, I just needed to replace INPUT with InputBox and PRINT with MsgBox, and VBA supported line numbers, so most of the shit worked right out of the box)
eventually learned a bit of actual VBA in the process
did some dumb shit before then, like writing delay loops in the old fashioned way (and wondering why they didn't work until I had the bright idea of increasing the number of loops to wait into the hundreds of thousands)
kinda really wished I had real VB, but I didn't have that kind of money and didn't know how to pirate it back then
Jason Perez

Unironically this. Also HyperCard was similar in this respect.
Michael Thompson
Blitz Basic was mine. Was to intelligent to learn Blitz3D.
I wonder if there's an emacs theme for Blitz Basic/ Blitz3D

My biggest beef with oldschool VB is the roundabout way of using WinAPI and external DLLs, you had to generate headers for every function instead of including a pre-made header file.
Brandon Evans
This is actually triggering.

JavaScript is too hard, you must use TypeScript, to actually get computer do for you the thinking of what blocks of code go into which ones, so you don't have to think at all, just what color to pick to get right symbol.
