Why are iPhones so popular in Japan?

Softbank (jap carrier) is basically giving them away for free with a 2 year contract and they're very popular with teens.

The reason android has a little over 50% market share is because domestic android phones aren't very good (except overpriced sony) and imports mainly consist of overpriced gookphones or bottom of the barrel chinktrash.

Has nothing to do with income when they're given out for free. Even those with problematic credit/very poor still get them on a lease with high APR or credit cards/loans.

iOS is more restricted and stripped down than Android, a phone marketed toward teens.

The 3 ICE agents that were escorting me all the way back to europe all had government-issued iPhones, but 2 out of 3 of them had an S9 as a personal phone.

I have a Pixel 2 XL. I also had an iPhone X (which I sold because it didn't have 2-app support, something that's mitigated now by the XS Max).

I'm in the google ecosystem (gmail. GPay, gmaps, youtube). Convince me to switch.

Here's my most important features on a phone
-A good camera (I'm legally blind, visually impaired, so I use my camera as basically a second pair of eyes)
-Multi tasking (2 or more apps open at the same time)
-Some kind of file manager to use it as a USB drive

And that's about it.

SMS never caught on in Japan. Networks were seperate so you couldn't message someone on a seperate network.

They used actual phone e-mails crammed into a weird text messaging like app for the longest, but it was still actually quite awkward. LINE is a much better option.

Google used its position with Android to market itself specifically to poor/developing countries like Eastern Europe and India in order to gain a monopoly. The poor and easily impressionable folk of these countries who love free/discounted shit responded in turn. Google is even working with the Indian government to make “smart toilets”, aka toilets with WiFi and tablets and health services.
