Because manufacturers have to pay a licensing fee to use it, and pass that fee on to you. Displayport supports better resolutions, more features, and has no licensing fee. Only real downsides are that idiotic thing where a device thinks nothing is plugged into the port if the screen is off, and that chinks don't seem to be able to make the cables well enough to work reliably.
