Is ElementaryOS a meme?

The default keyboard short cuts are bad(having tried the beta).
I see no reason to use it since i am not a newbie. Debian or whatever just works fine for me.

>shitty ubuntu fork themed after MacOS
Yeah, it's a meme

Yes but it's better than windows.
After 2 years of using linux you'll realise that anything aside from [base distribution] + [your tiling WM of choice] is a meme.
Before that point though just use whatever you want, it's all Linux. Literally just pick any debian based distro you want, the only real difference is going to be the default window manager.

Ubuntu Budgie is easy mode and works better. Elementary slightly wins on basic out of box visual appeal but it's unstable as fuck.

>I love having to reach over for my mouse and then point and click at another window everytime I'm multitasking instead of just pressing a single key with my hands that are already on the keyboard, glad I'm not one of those tiling WM using autists haha XD

Pretty much. If you only know macOS, it might be worth a try. Otherwise, I don't really see the point.

It can't be possible that you don't know about alt+tab. Are you that attention starved that you're going around pretending to be retarded for attention?

i've been using elementary on my laptop for a couple of months now, it's just another ubuntu flavour that just werkz out of the box.

to be fair: isn't that what 99/100 people on Jow Forums, as a whole, do?

>look at me, mom, i'm a hacker!

do you memorise all the keyboard shortcuts for the software you use too?

>take gnome 3
>slap a dock on it
>call it mac OS
Fucking Unity/KDE are closer to Mac OS than any of these meme DEs could ever be

I dont know what the fuck is (((OP)))s problem its obviously a divide and conquer shill
apart from a few computers with paid windows (xp, 10 twice, vista) I just try to salvage computers I find, install DOS 6.22 to Scan disk to remove bad sectors (If i just go straight to a bigger OSs it wont work because it installs on a bad sectors and fucks the whole hard drive), use the windows 98 boot disk to install Windows 98 (an iso, from the archive of course), go for a fuckfest of driver hunts, get kernel ex or whatever else
I still dont know how get youtube running on it but ive gotten httpS support

And its all for free

Why is this virgin spamming this copypasta all over \G\?

>10 programs open
>have to alt+tab 5 times to switch between two of them
Yup, exactly the same thing

Look at me mum! I'm too retarded to try new tools so I just do mental gymnastics to determine that everyone who uses it is X and I'm the superior one for not trying!!

Yeah because memorising 4 shortcut keys for a window manager that's running 100% of the time is extremely mentally tasking. Not to mention it's literally just modifier + vim movement keys.

>tiling WM

fuck off Microshaft (((evangelist)))

>Yeah because memorising 4 shortcut keys for a window manager that's running 100% of the time is extremely mentally tasking
i mean you can literally just choose not to do it by not installing a tiling wm

yeah who the fuck needs the addon "windows"
DOS master race

who the fuck wants anything made by MS? actually, Office products, but OpenOffice has docx now so fuck em

Anything besides debian, arch, fedora, etc. is a fucking meme. Ubuntu is even pushing it. "ElementaryOS" what the fuck? Just use a normal distro and install whatever you want on it and not have to worry about the 2 guys who maintain your obscure distro to take time out of their lives to package things for you.

yes

reminder that if you download elementary os for free, you are a cheater

>mfw i use tumbleweed
>mfw beta testing paid software for a large corporation
not all bad i guess, it's fairly stable. and i get thumbnails in the file-picker.

>[base distribution] + [your tiling WM of choice]
Is there a tiling WM with good touch support?
I mean, the basic concept is basically exactly the same as what Windows 8 was intending, just with a different method of arranging tiles and launching/killing tasks.

Open-source creations can often feel like complete pajeet works.
>mimic the looks of a screenshot of something
>IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME AND/OR BETTER
>has none of the animations
>different behavior in general
>no hotkeys at all
>need to use the terminal for half of the base functions

You mean for switching between and arranging windows?
I wouldn't see the point.
i3wm has full mouse support and yet I never use it because manipulating windows with the keyboard is just so much faster

I would use it on a convertible in tablet mode.
The idea would be to basically copy Windows 8:
- Swipe from left edge to get the last displayed tile, drop it and repeat the action to get the tile before that, etc. (basically, alt+tab)
- Swipe from left edge and back to get a selection of displayable tiles. Tap them to have them fill the space of the currently focused tile or drag them to determine yourself where you want them to be
- Grab the top of a tile and drag it to the side to snap, drag to the bottom to close, drag to the top to maximize. Same actions work with the alt+tab equivalent
- Swipe from the right for a toolbar with room for a few elements (shortcut for a launcher, for starting a new instance of your file manager, etc. - customize it at need)
- Swipe from right and back for an info area with room for more elements (system status, volume controls, etc.)
- Swipe from bottom to open/close your task bar if you have one

Ideally, I would use touch more than mouse, as pure keyboard works perfectly fine and very efficiently as you have yourself stated.

As if I needed more reasons to not give it a try

>A sucks more therefore B doesn't suck

i haven't used the terminal for anything else than screenfetch

Back when I used Ubuntu, I needed to use CLI just to disable mouse acceleration.

But then again, Unity was the most fucked up desktop I've ever used.

I had some hopes about consistency ~10 years ago, but now, I've lost all hope. I'd move back to OS X if Macs weren't such piece of shit these days.

literally all linux distros minus centOS without a DE are a meme. Having said that, eOS is literally the comfyest of them all.

how can you literally type the opposite of the truth while keeping a straight face. It's terrifying.

>t. tiling wm virgin
I bet you've never compiled dwm.

it's by far the most stable gahnoo-loonix distro out there, thanks to its DE and the whole thing being a walled garden. It still lets you take down the walls, and I have, but it continues to boot no matter what. It's almost annoying, I'm used to distros breaking so I have something to do. This one just doesn't, so I'm left alone staring at the screen being fully aware that my life is fading away and I should *really* stop browsing japanimation porn forums.

Why are you lying?

6/10

It's good for beginners, probably the most normie distribution of them all. I used it to convince my dad to use Linux. Does all the basic stuff a person would need if you just install Libre Office.
