it got abit confusing around 2006 with core2duo but yer basicaly a single socket board is still a motherboard

the reason mainboard was used was to describe systems made up of multiple "computers" that ran of a single main board

while motherboard was single computer.

there was actual motherboards that plugged into mainboards before.
