VeraCrypt

Is VeraCrypt anywhere near as trustworthy as TrueCrypt was?? Anyone have any issue with it?

I use it for full disk encryption. They don't support those key storing chips on the basis of it being a meme (kinda agree with them of that one). I'm not that tech savvy and definitely not capable of combing through its code to check, but the consensus seems to be that it's about as trustworthy as TrueCrypt was

It's developed in France and unlike the US the French intelligence services don't have the legal ability to strongarm software makers into backdooring their products. I suppose it is more trustworthy than any US made software. I would still use Truecrypt though. If it's developers had been compliant it would not have been shutdown.

>three-letter-agency sees you have VC installed
>you are now automatically assumed to have child pornography on your device
Oh no no, I'm sure you're only using it to store 'important business documents' and, uh, 'tax forms'. Don't let its primary practical, real-world usage put you off.

Now, to install TOR and start Googling several VPN companies' names, for no reason

At the company I work with, every accountant, HR and executive has it installed: these containers hold user profiles and all the data inside them.

>three-letter-agency sees you have VC installed
?

You work from home as a retard-jacker-offer?

Use dm-crypt/LUKS instead of True-/VeraCrypt or Bitlocker, etc.

>Is VeraCrypt anywhere near as trustworthy as TrueCrypt was?

It literally has a "True Crypt Mode" so the answer is YES

dm-crypt/LUKS can't be used on winblows and bitlocker is proprietary

Probably, but with TrueCrypt saying you should use BitLocker instead, we have a very strong suspicion that there's a government compromise with TrueCrypt. That compromise is probably still baked into VeraCrypt.

Fucking NEET. Tons of people use VC for very legitimate reasons.

Wasn't the BitLocker suggestion a warrant canary?

I'll grant that 'hiding evidence of a massive child pornography collection' is indeed a legitimate reason to use VeraCrypt

That's the most logical theory.

Not really trustworthy. Use LUKS on Linux.

BTW this is also rather necessary because do you consider Windows trustworthy? Of course not, the company that owns it even allows itself to collect data...

Just use LUKS

No. If it was possible to compromise TrueCrypt it wouldn't have been shutdown. Since they couldn't compromise it, they told the devs to shutdown or else.

How would they see it installed if it's encrypted
Checkmate atheist

>dm-crypt/LUKS can't be used on winblows
It can be used on Windows, but you probably do not want to use Windows on that machine anyhow.

>use crypto
No, thanks. Iam not pedo.

contain yourself, encryption is a tool, it can be used for any number or reason, good or bad

Bolt cutters have legitimate uses but I guarantee 99% of people arrested with bolt cutters are criminals just like 99% of people using encryption are pedos

Vera, what has become of you?
Does anybody else in here, feel the way I do?

With devices and user side applications using encryption all over the place (from https and various chat and other internet protocols over the iPhones to various encryption that is enabled stock in "business" laptops and hdd and so on), you seem quite clueless.

Obviously I meant user-installed encryption. Encryption that comes with the OS is fine because the police can compel the company that makes it to unlock the files

No, but maybe a high percentage of people against encryption and for surveillance are authoritarians that would like insight into other people's business while not disclosing their own.

>t. pedo

>Guns have legitimate uses
>99%
>But mah generalization

Duh, people bought Apple iPhones because they thought Apple was a privacy company that encrypted their shit. Likewise for "business" HDD.

What's that supposed to change vs "user-installed" encryption? If you pay for it, it's better? Fucking shill.

as an authoritarian myself I see nothing wrong with encryption, lead your daily lives however you like as long as you adhere to the principles that are governing the state, dont do anything detrimental to the state.

t.authoritarian

If you want to prove yourself, we can see your passwords, browser history and financial / medical details plus all GPS data and other history, all unencrypted.

I can give you a swab off my dick to prove I didn't fuck any kids in return.

You type the word that like you think it's an insult to us.

I have nothing to hide from the democratically elected government. That ain't you.

Authoritarians usually have the issue where the first thing they can't look into (hurr suspected criminal hid what was PROBABLY key evidence behind encryption) will lead to the ban of privacy, encryption, and anything else that obstructs unfettered "justice" and "moral" policing.

That line of thinking is pretty much required to be authoritarian in some way, you're not terribly authoritarian if you limit the power of the executive after you own the legislative [if these even are separated at all].

>you're not terribly authoritarian if you limit the power of the executive after you own the legislative [if these even are separated at all].
thats what fascism is

Lel. So you see the legitimacy and even the point in encrypting against everyone else apart from a democratically elected government (and one following its own proscribed democratically defined process to the letter, which actually isn't nearly always the case).

...

Apart from that, I'll only believe it's MORAL for the government to break people's encryption when the members of the legislative and executive allow us to break their encryption in similar situations and more (given that they're supposed to be our employees, we probably deserve more insight overall than vice versa...)

They are the enemy. You either concede defeat like the NPC's or fight from the shadows whilst trying to redpill the NPC's wherever and whenever you can. Or just hide "."

by definition NPCs cannot be redpilled

>le NPCs
Back to >>>/reddit/, retards.
