So basically, 99...

so basically, 99.999% of the world's population (including winfags on Jow Forums) has learned helplessness when it comes to personal computing.
To cure yourself and obtain liberation from corporations that exploits your convenience and to be frank, your lack of intelligence,
install gentoo RIGHT NOW and never look back.

How bout no bitch

reading wikis does cure you of your ineptitude

Take control... Take control of your computer. Behold, the instrument of your liberation!

Metro systems, public transportation, modern cars and motorcycles, etc... They all "exploit your convenience". I guess we should all just walk to work or ride a donkey instead.

Checked, Satan.

Learned helplessness is the norm in most domains. No one has the time to be expert in everything. Can you take your car engine apart and put it back together again? What about your plumbing and electrical?

Division of labor and specialization are good things.

you cannot ask me to change my fucking UI after 20 years of windows. i could berally read english when i started so text based os would have been impossible.

plus linux is shit

Nah, Linux isn't shit. But I empathize with not starting with text based OS back in the day.

>No one has the time
This 'phrase' needs to be deleted from all languages. It's "I don't have the self to do it." Time is an illusion. 30mins doing what you have pure motivation to do feels like seconds. Slogging thru shit that is painful, frustrating can be 30years of hell crammed in 30mins. Gotta switch perspectives/paradigms; build yourself and not be built by others.

Gentoo is not approved by the FSF.

I have an amd ryzen 3 2200g. Anyone know if it works well with Linux yet? Assuming a 4.18 kernel.

check plebbit.

Is this ponies outside of /mlp/?

That makes Gentoo even better. The FSF can eat a bag of dicks.

Fuck off, BSDickweed.

This but unironically. I wish this board blocked browser agents using windows. Yes you could get around it but It would filter out a lot of the retards of nu-g

Thats not a character from the MLP FiM franchise or the EqG movies.
So no.

Wait ponies are still banned? It was fucking 10 years ago or so.

Ritchie would use Plan 9

and it's a good thing

I wish Jow Forums blocked browser agents using iOS, Windows, or Android.

>spend two days installing gentoo
>£+÷ ÷¡¥
>spend 20 minutes installing bubuntu
>same exact end result
wait..

ummmm... oooookay?

Installing Gentoo won't make teach about computing, it'll teach you installing Gentoo.
t. winfag, hobbyist programmer

Nice quads.

>posts picture of Lubuntu, the ugliest Ubuntu derivative, to show that it has a usable GUI

I seee people recommend Gentoo all over here and desu I am too afraid to ask now why it is the holy grail.

So here goes, Jow Forums what is so fucking great about this OS?

USE flags. Compiling. Config files galore. It raises your intelligence by at least 100 IQ points.

It isnt just use something that works and has more users

you wont get help from Jow Forums trust me

I use Solus but xubuntu, manjaro are good as well

So it is just purity spiral elitist snobbery bullshit?

Classic Jow Forums desu

So it's very good for programmers?

I'm a regular user who just does browsing, email, gaming, shitposts on Jow Forums, but am concerned about privacy. Should I go with something else?

Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, or some other distro that focuses on user-friendliness should be fine.

Nice one user. I used ubuntu for a few months about 5 years ago before they adopted Gnome.

Tested Mint the other day and it seemed okay too.

Tried to install debian and it took forever to download packages and I gave up, is it any fucking good?

I don't ever use Debian or its derivatives. I'm most familiar with Fedora and CentOS when it comes to easy Linux distros. Install rpmfusion on either and then ffmpeg for your multimedia needs.

Also check out Antergos btw.

I use gentoo everywhere.
Server, two laptops and pi3.

I don't have the interest to learn auto mechanics among other things, I value my time. If I'm getting payed 30$/h I value my free time at the same rate. why the fuck would I not have someone else do the work if it's cheaper and I could do something I actually WANT to do.

It's not about "hurr install gentoo" because I bet the people who used UNIX multiuser systems back in the day, or the home computers, compiled their kernel from source in their daily usage, but I bet they still knew the absolute ins and outs of their system.

A good example is the boo i have on UNIX text processing, and the depth and complexity is something you'd expect today in an intermediate manual, but is written for people who are used to typewriters and never touched a computer before.

who the fuck installs ubuntu from softpedia?

>Car doesn't start
Work can wait. Let's get some books and learn how to fix it.

>Wife is pregnant
Let's start learning how to deliver babies

>I'm puking blood
Time to learn myself some medicine.

Seriously dude, this was the single most retarded thing I've read in my entire life and the simple fact of reading it makes me question how much of an autistic pile of human garbage you have to be to unironically say it.

The mere thought of having to accept that my planet's resources are daily being spent on someone like you makes me feel despondent to a degree I had never felt before.

All in all 10/10 if bait and if not you seriously have to consider ending yourself because no one can possibly enjoy or even tolerate your existence. You'd be doing the world a favour and, for the first time in your life, you would actually be contributing towards something objectively good.

Considering science fails to explain or even just define what time is, yes, time may be an illusion

I hope nobody does. I just pulled that off of DuckDuckGo images.

Hi Satan.

Thanks for the pasta

>No one has the time to be expert in everything.
That would be an unreasonable expectation. Is it unreasonable to hope that individuals would make an effort to become more competent at various facets of life, so that they can empower themselves to, at the very least, make better decisions about how their time and money are spent. After developing an insight into how something works, you can make better judgements about it, and also know when you're being ripped off. That doesn't require specialist knowledge, or years of experience. You can even perform simple tasks yourself, and develop confidence and character in the process.

>>Something goes wrong abruptly, and requires urgent attention.
>Strawman.
Nobody expects you to down tools and ignore the urgency of something in order to learn about it.
Do you ever get sick of buying pre-made food? Can you afford to eat out every night? Why wouldn't you? You're not an expert at cooking, and you don't want to make the time to learn. Why would you even bother?

Overspecialisation is partly why ~90% of the US population would die if the power went out.

If gentoo could challenge the corporations they would make gentoo illegal

>>>Something goes wrong abruptly, and requires urgent attention.
>>Strawman.
>Nobody expects you to down tools and ignore the urgency of something in order to learn about it.
Did you read what I was replying to? I got a much different impression from it. Here, I'll quote it for you:

>>No one has the time
>This 'phrase' needs to be deleted from all languages. It's "I don't have the self to do it." Time is an illusion. 30mins doing what you have pure motivation to do feels like seconds. Slogging thru shit that is painful, frustrating can be 30years of hell crammed in 30mins. Gotta switch perspectives/paradigms; build yourself and not be built by others.

If this is not the most idiotic paragraph you've ever read, I'm not sure what to tell you. I will, however, give you the benefit of refining your argument.

>Do you ever get sick of buying pre-made food? Can you afford to eat out every night? Why wouldn't you? You're not an expert at cooking, and you don't want to make the time to learn. Why would you even bother?
I could, but then I wouldn't have money to invest in things I enjoy. If I was a billionaire I'd probably cook very rarely if that clears up any confusion. Why? Because it gives me some enjoyment. Doing it as a chore, however, is tolerable at best and miserable at worst.

>Overspecialisation is partly why ~90% of the US population would die if the power went out.
Depending on the time frame and the amount of government help, sure, that's plausible and probably accurate. But you don't even need to go to a forced hunter gatherer scenario to prove that we're not independent from each other anymore. We're not, and those days are not coming back unless they're forced into it. We live in a globalised world and getting along and exploiting each other's strengths allows us to achieve much more than what we would otherwise.

well KDE is somewhat good looking but nobody will get memed hard enough on an anonymous imageboard to think it's usable, right?
