For anyone who actually writes for a living, Word is irreplaceable. I've tried everything. open/libre office has trash autocomplete/autocorrect dictionaries.

I use Scrivener and Google Sheets. Those are the two best tools for writing, regardless of the topic.

Google sheets is for keeping data straight. Like doing a timeline so you know where multiple characters are at any given time in your story so you don't end up with inconsistencies if it's fiction, and in the case of the book I'm currently writing about agriculture I'm able to track what climates various seeds grow in, what time of year is best for harvesting them, and if the seeds need fermentation to be viable for the next growing season, so I'm able to easily cross-reference all of that data with my spreadsheets while writing.
