Tfw 28 year old doomer

>tfw 28 year old doomer

What are my options for getting a tech job at this point? I passed college level classes in high school but kind of just fizzled out over the years and never went to college. Finally feel good enough to get my life back on track but 4 years of college seems like so much time for my age.

Too late.

>tfw just turned 28
fuck

It's not too late. You could start going to college, but you should also work on your own projects / contribute to open source. Build a portfolio, and you might get a job.

>4 years of college seems like so much time for my age
And you're right. Get a part-time job along with college. Also is wanking-tier, you should get a real job

Holy fuck that pic is me but I’m only 24 and don’t drink. Is getting drunk a good feeling? It just seems so expensive.

Get a job in a call centre. Under rated life hack. Yeah it's not glamorous but it's an easy job that can lead to better things and usually pays well above minimum wage. Most of the people I work with have IT degrees and make the same salary as me. Been here 4 months now, just last week had the flu and got a full week's pay for staying at home looking at lesbian watersports porn.

Start your own business. No qualifications needed.

I unironically worked at a call center when I was starting my business.

I could only work 3 to 4 days a week. So I had plenty of time left.

Bonus points for at home call center.
I have it and it is fucking great, Chinese cartoons when no call. Talk for 30 seconds and get hung up on, then back to waiting and watching.

>Call centre
I would think twice about getting advice from an iPajeet.

Is your curriculum vitae empty or does it have big gaps (5+ years)? If so, you won't find a job in IT if you study for four years. If your curriculum vitae has some content, you'll be fine, it will show that you're ready and capable of working ...

It's not worth it because you can't remember anything.

You should start watching Jordan Peterson videos and learning some kind of trade. You have to be great at computers, and you have to be able to do a little bit of everything. At this point becoming a specialist is not going to be your goal. You don't have the foundation yet to specialize. Break things on your computer then fix them. Write code that does something cool and useful, then break it, then fix it. Set a small incremental goals for the code and meet them.

I highly recommend immediately going cold turkey on any drugs you may or may not be doing, and that is including alcohol and tobacco. Don't go to university, you're just going to fail because you have probably forgotten all of your high school algebra and pre-calc. It's going to be a waste of money. A certificate in some relevant field might be a much better idea for now.

Jordan Peterson is great for fucking NPC's, could you please stop sucking the christ fags cock for just a moment please.

fucking hell, first meme i can relate to

you only forget if ur weak

>Expresses harsh anti-collectivist criticism and focuses on the sovereign individual and warns against the danger of ideological possession.
>"great for NPC's"

Hes literally the opposite of what NPC's are....

No. There's really no reason to drink.

>you're just going to fail because you have probably forgotten all of your high school algebra and pre-calc.

>go to college when 24
>just review math for like 4 weeks
>get into pre-calc
>now in calc 2 with a 87.5% (fuck you professor I want an A)

It's doable

One year sober alcoholic here. Don't touch that shit. It might be fun in the beginning but then you need more. After a while it's stops working and it only makes you feel worse.
Also stay away from any kind of stimulant, eg caffeine. It will become a crutch after a while

> drink to forget
> weak shamed if it actually works
> waste your life anyway if you remember

OP, Would you rather endure 4 years now, or 4 years after the years of regretting not starting now ?

he espouses and rehashes pretty basic self help ideas that are articulated (and understood) by better psychologists and writers. the guy uses the guise of self-help as a soapbox for his retarded politics. he is constantly spouting inane, inaccurate garbage to fuel his conspiracy theories, and he doesn't seem to have the patience to look up the defintion postmodernism before decrying it as the downfall of western civilization

he is a meme bro. he's a Joe Rogan-tier "intellectual" that NPCs love because he confirms their existing biases and makes them feel smarter than they actually are. but all they do is jerk each other off and link each other videos of "Watch Jordan Peterson DESTROY college libtard feminist genderqueer"

Is 28/29 too old to learn programming?

No, I know people in 30s that learned frontend development and changed careers.

except he's not
>but all they do is jerk each other off and link each other videos
tells me everything about what kind of person you are

no. when I was studying CS, I had guys in their 40s on my class, and they were always the most attentive and successful.

I recommend start by solving small problems you currently face, or automating tedious tasks you find yourself doing. Read Automate the Boring Stuff With Python, its a good beginner book, and it encourages practical programming, which is helpful if you want to stay motivated.

if you wanna go back to school, look up local state universities and their CS curriculums, then go to your local community college to fulfill your prerequisites for about 2 year before transferring to Uni to finish your degree after another 2 years.

>4 years of college seems like so much time for my age.
it's exactly the same amount of time to complete as it would have been if you were younger.

you'll be done at 32 and work for ~35 years. that's longer than you'll have even been alive at that point, and twice the number of years you'll have been an actual adult; people often forget that your first ~18 years are pretty fucking meaningless and more or less just acclimating you to basic existence in whatever society and circumstance you're born into, and the next 5-10 years for most people are just coping with how shitty that existence actually is before you finally decide to do something about it.

stop comparing yourself to the top 1% of motivated and ambitious people and realize that virtually nobody is actually "on track", and stop feeling bad for starting college a few years late, if that's what you want to do.

except he is
>except he's not
>>but all they do is jerk each other off and link each other videos
>tells me everything about what kind of person you are
tells me everything about what kind of person you are

not him, but for someone who already has a degree couldn't they just a masters in that field instead?

The fact that you are posting this question here speaks in volumes that you are never going to make it. You're literally asking others to tell you what to do.

If you truly love tech, you would not ask this question, you'd be actually doing it by now. Not because you need a reason, but because it's something you'd find fucking interesting.

Pick up a book. Learn programming. Start hacking. ANYTHING. Seeing that you're unwilling to put 4 years of effort into bettering yourself and to learn something, you are not interested in the tech industry at all.

ps. age is no huge barrier in the tech industry - don't listen to faggots here.

Have a fixed goal in mind and go for it OP. My sister started from a community drop out record to being a semester away graduation from a four year university. She's turning 33 in a few months.

wish me luck on my college entrance exam :)

yes, I essentially did that and used it to get a better job. Only downside is you need the money to support yourself for a year.

>posting this angry lisping goblin

At 28 it’s a different

I might just do that then.
Basically got an accounting degree, and I hate the job. Want to do something new. Figured even if I did though the 22 fresh graduate hires would always get chosen over me

sounds like you're in luck, you have an accountancy degree so you can shit talk your way onto a tech master's course by saying you already have the mathematical knowledge, then once you have the master's you're one step ahead of the 22yo grads for the jobs. Recruiters (who are universally cunts, but nevermind) will put your CV ahead purely because you have an extra qualification.

Thanks for the book suggestion. I'm more inclined to self learn. Would you suggest Python a good starting off point or do you think its worth trying to dig into C as a noob?

learning C as your first language is the best long-term, but the barrier of entry is higher, and its very difficult as a beginner especially if you're learning on your own. Learn C The Hard Way by Zed Shaw was a good introduction in my experience (it used to be free, but he's since put it behind a paywall. you can probably find a pirated PDF somewhere).

But Python is absolutely fine, and a great language to start with. There are plenty of Python jobs, and they usually pay very well.

hey user, this is my first post in this thread but i wanted to let you know that your post really helped me out

I think you're confusing him with Ben Shapiro

~1 week sober alcoholic here. If you're able to drink in moderation in can lead to a good night here or there but for some people it's just not possible. Once I have a sip getting more is all that matters.

imo don't bother with it, you'll end up using it to solve problems but in reality it only causes more problems and just delays the ones you're trying to ignore. The amount of joy drinking brings (which is forgotten the next day anyway) is not worth the troubles it can bring.

I'd say these sober alcoholic replies you're getting are jumping the shark, but honestly if you're 24 and haven't ever had a drop just don't bother. At that point their advice is legit, starting drinking after years of never even looking at it twice is a bad idea.

Fuck off, you gigantic faggot.
1. Learn C The Hard Way is an AWFUL book. Just like everything else he wrote is awful, stop spamming that shit here. If you want to go with C read K&R for brevity and follow up with C Programming: A Modern Approach for depth and more current ref. Just know won't easily get a C programming job unless you are looking to do systems programming which will typically require you study either a lot of CS and/or EE concepts outside of just "programming".
2. Python is going to be much, much quicker in terms of becoming job competitive. In an ideal world you would start out learning something like LISP and then learn basics of assembly -> C -> Higher Level Langs, but pretty much no one is doing that because it would take way to long to get hired.

this is impractical advice especially for a beginner. the books I recommended are fine if you're starting off.

nah that's jordie p

>call center

Is this just a meme?
Every time I look it's says "Earn thousands at home working 1 hour a day!" And they only pay you after 3 months of work but fire you before 1st paycheck.
Or they pay you $1 an hour because they expect you to be able to live off that in some 3rd world country.

lol is this obsession about age an american thing? you wouldn't even be the oldest student in my cs classes (swedistan)

OP here

How do I start to learn to code I guess? I can fix, repair, build computers, install and run linux no problem and more but have 0 coding experience because the need for it never came up. Would all my project go on a github account or should it be somewhere else?

I don't drink alcohol or do drugs

I have a speech impediment and always slur my words too and am very monotone

Yes I have a big gap of 6 years but technically i can say I was self employed because I was jus t fixing andflipping computers, bikes, other things but rarely did i actually work per week.

I was in the top of the top at my mediocre high school so that might cancel that out.

Haha even I know peterson advice is a meme for NPCs. He is a bullshitter too, a shill for his agenda and not even that smart but more like a trained parrot.

Before I was in a trade and got to the top of it but quit working because I was tired of it at the age of 22. I would also say I have a solid foundation on computers but no programming experience. That seems to be what I need to jump into next but don't know how. How much math is needed to get different tech jobs?

Telling people what to do? You mean advice?
I need advice on how to start programming where to start and if college is worth it or not.

Attached: 1538761724503.jpg (1200x1200, 482K)

Anything else you'd recommend for learning C?

>I highly recommend immediately going cold turkey on any drugs
NOPE

What of it is impractical? The advice that I gave would be the absolute minimum that he would learn at an undergrad CS/Software-Eng. degree at any decent university, minus the math and systems stuff which would probably be slightly overkill in this case. I stated that Python was a fine choice if we wants to be a code monkey in the shortest amount of time possible.

Zed Shaw is a terrible writer and almost everyone in the C community states you should avoid him. His books have been explicitly blacklisted on multiple C reading lists, including the most famous one on Stack Overflow, because they are so bad that they are considered harmful.

Is there a name for a Doomer that is constantly high on marijuana instead of drunk on alcohol?

I’m a 28 year old freshman in college. Older students seem more driven and know what they want to go for in life at this point. I presume you’re over the party frat boy phase so you will probably do better than most.

It’s doable my man. I’m And it took me only 10 months of preparation to get into an Ivy League with a scholarship. I hope you can write an excellent essay.

believe in yourself

If you know how to create value, then your mission at this point is to find the people who need you the most.

Start by reading books that are well regarded in whatever language/technologies you want to work with. The best ones tend have LOTS of exercises and projects. I'd recommend 3 hours of coding practice minimum for about every hour of reading. Make sure to learn your basic data structures (arrays, linked lists, stacks, queues, hashtables, trees). Do that a minimum of 8 hours a day if you are unemployed. After a few months you should be able to get away from textbooks and start building small projects of your own in the 100-1000 lines of code, start reading other peoples code, and get familiar with solving some easy leetcode for job prep. A few months later you should be able to solve most easy leetcode problems in

Its not too late, but do it now
Also another thing to consider is do you have high enough iq/mental capacity/arent brainlet for college? Its one thing to want to go but you will go spend money and then find yourself in a situation where you cant keep up and finally drop out

Dont let Jow Forums meme the last sliver of hope out of you.

Im in similar situation as op. Im wondering if i have any chances to get IT job if i have only retail experience or will my application immediately end up in trash?

>Do that a minimum of 8 hours a day if you are unemployed
Not him but man, I'm doomed.

is a technical woth it?

I started school when almost 28. Just went for an associates but will complete it after this semester. Feels good man. Already got a job in IT to transition into full-time once I graduate as well. Before I was working a dead-end maintenance job and drinking way to much.

Is ecstasy aka darks a doomer?

Attached: 25a.jpg (528x600, 57K)

lmao manlet

Well he was 13. Pic is from 11 years ago so he could as well be a 24yo drunk doomer manlet now

t. boots riley

>got an EE degree
>now 30 working a dead end "engineering job" with no real future prospects
>also not real engineering work so I can't really get another engineering job at this point due to forgetting basically everything and having no skills outside of the niche shit I do

Maybe I'll get a CCNA or something. Is that still a good meal ticket or has pajeet ruined that?

learn how to actually program, you silly boomer

How do I avoid this?

Call center? Bro. Call centers are the burger-flipping jobs of the office world. Amazon warehouse pays the same or more than the handful of call centers I am aware of. You get treated like poop all the while. I'm revoking your give-life-advice privileges.

This. +1.

Kek. Facts.

Does learning how to program actually get jobs anymore in the current year? I'm pretty out of touch as you can figure. I could probably quickly relearn some basic grasp of C if I put in the effort, but I don't really have the time anymore unless I quit my job.

I get paid decently enough for how easy/mindless my job is, I'm just feeling depressed about how lame and pointless it is, a high school student could do it. I can't legitimately call myself an engineer or even really working in STEM and it's hurting my pride. Basically a glorified technician.

At least IT would let me play with technology and be a bit of a nerd again. Would a CCNA + an EE degree get me something better than helpdesk jobs?

Don't work for the government if you think you'll ever want to leave. You won't be able to because you'll have nothing to offer anyone.

Google has a certificate program via Coursera. Finish that within a year. Read a book on Agile. Automate the Boring Stuff is fun so it will keep you engaged in Python programming.

>I can fix, repair, build computers, install and run linux no problem and more

Dude, no coding required, you can get great IT jobs with that shit. Start off with an A+ (baby's first cert but necessary) and keep adding new certs a few months at a time. You know, Network+, Linux+, whatever the fuck.

You can get a basic desktop support job or even call center with the A+ and work your way up to sysadmin, network dude, etc.

Programming is to a certain extent a meme and it certainly is for your demonstrated skills and interested. Best of luck.

>people often forget that your first ~18 years are pretty fucking meaningless and more or less just acclimating you to basic existence in whatever society and circumstance you're born into
Maybe in our kiked society... If kids did not have such a large chunk of their lives taken from them by a retarded age of majority, they could start working earlier in their life, or at least do something more useful than wasting time in the school system.

>drink alcohol or do drugs
>or
Alcohol is the druggiest of drugs, m8.

Im 33 and just started gear long cs course. So no, it aint.

m8, I got a nice job in infosec at 30, after being NEETing for 5 years. pretty sure you can do it, too

now you need to tell us about your interests, your experience (ANYTHING, even fixing computers or writing shitty apps), etc.

what did you do before infosec?

Man, InfoSec sure is a nice field of work, though I got out of it a half year ago for a Linux dev job. Job Security is pretty great, if what I'm doing doesn't work out, I can just go to a large corporation with a revolving door for a SOC and do that for a time. The only downsides in my opinion are that it's full of egos and autists, and it's starting to be infiltrated by SJW types as well recently.

student, then fell ill, then I did whatever the fuck I could, from fixing computers to making shitty websites, selling stuff, bug hunting, etc.
it helped me that I had been interested in infosec for like 8 years, found a vuln in some browser, and had a CVE to show.
I wasn't a doomer like in OPs pic, but I didn't go out much at all...

>Man, InfoSec sure is a nice field of work, though I got out of it a half year ago for a Linux dev job. it's fun, but I'm getting tired of the egos, the amount of stuff one has to learn, the potential risk of being fucked in the ass for not find a vulnerability, etc.
I plan on starting my own company now, not in infosec... I'm still doing infosec, but only for the money

dude you have the internet at your fingertips
search for shit, if you dont get it find another source repeat
practice everyday
if you get bored go on codewars or another shit site like that and fuck around with the stuff you learned, read up on big o, algos, networking

Your only objective as a doomer is to die asap.

I would rather get paid 15 an hour at my current call center than 15 or less working at an amazon warehouse. No question. If you can get a job at a call center doing tech support, you really can gain legitimate experience to carry over at other IT jobs. It isn't bad advice

Dude you need to do everything you can to get a job.

Ever since I started coding I've been wondering if I would be happier as a plumber or an electrician.

You don't need a degree but you can't just shit on your ass and expect good things to happen. You need to make them happen. Making a portfolio with non-trivial projects will attract good companies. HR drones will only look at your resume. A company like that is going to suck more than a company that takes time to test you and possibly even train you.

Get it together
