Anyone else switch back to Windows after years of Linux?

I came in contact with Linux the first time in 2008 when Cannocal was sending free CD's to your house, I thought it was amazing and got obsessed with Linux for quite a bit. Scripting, programming, servers, IRC flamewers, things were cool.

But then the software became worse and worse (GTK3, Gnome 3, buggy as fuck Qt5, more tracking, more bullshit by the day).

A hoard of incompetent but arrogant and politically charged "developers" invaded OSS and turned everything into shit.

I decided to try Windows 10 LTSB for shits and giggles a few days ago and I found it beautiful, everything is so simple and free of leftie BS, good software (I'm an ARM developer, the Windows version of ARM DS 5 supports more emulators and compiles faster) and the best part was that nothing was slow (like I remember with Vista lol)

So who else here switched back after long term usage? Please no beginners who couldn't install or install gaems on Linux, just advanced users who switched.

>Anyone else switch back to Windows after years of Linux?

no only you sir,

poo

I've used both linux and MS since 1996, I'm not sure why this was worth making a thread about.

>after years
Most people figure it out in days.

One semester of tech support for Windows stuff at my college made me want to stay as far away from Microsoft as possible.

>Windows 10 LTSB
stopped reading here

I've seen this thread twice today. Is this Microsoft's new strategy for their paid shills?

I can't believe it takes some people years to figure out Linux is trash and switch back to Windows. I had that figured out in one afternoon of messing with Linux.

I never used Linux because it doesn't support most games. Why use Linux when you can't partake in futuristic entertainment?

>Windows 10
Not the fan of linux but you got a shit taste.

A student said: “We have learned that Unix is not just an operating system, but also a style of approaching problems.”

Master Foo nodded in agreement.

The student continued: “Then, the Great Way of Unix can be applied on other operating systems?”

Master Foo sat silent for a moment, then said: “In every operating system there is a path to the Great Way, if only we can find it.”

The student continued: “What, then, of Windows? It is preinstalled on most computers, and though its tools are mostly far inferior, they are easy to use for beginners. Surely, Windows users could benefit from the Unix philosophy.”

Master Foo nodded again.

The student said: “How, then, are those enlightened in the Unix Way to return to the Windows world?”

Master Foo said: “To return to Windows, you have but to boot it up.”

The student said, growing agitated: “Master Foo, if it is so easy, why are there so many monolithic and broken software packages for Windows? Elegant software should also be possible with a GUI and fancy colors, but there is little evidence that this occurs. What becomes of an enlighted one who returns to Windows?”

Master Foo: “A broken mirror never reflects again; fallen flowers never go back to the old branches.”

Upon hearing this, all present were enlightened.

yeah but I did this back in 2012ish. got tired of choppy video, retarded drivers and general shit performance in loonix

I want to /ovg/ some abandonware fag shit that wine and Vmware runs like shit, it tempty to insfall a W7 machine disconected to the matrix but I don't want to fag out

I did switch back after a long time of using Debian and Arch for the most part because of what stated. People will tell you "werks on my machine" all the time but it's bullshit. None of the desktop enviroments are smooth, 2D performance just suck. Despite of havint spent hours of tweaking, shit never ran truly smooth neither on my notebook nor on my desktop which has an AMD Vega. Another reason is just the lack of software. I still make music every now and then and producing music on Linux is shit because I can't run Cubase, Ableton, Pro Tools or Logic and Bitwig is shit, nor can I run all the VSTs I have. I also depend a lot on Premiere or Vegas. Video editors on Linux are absolutely crap, especially because they're unstable and have shitty hardware acceleration support.
On the other hand I sometimes miss Linux a lot. Programming on Linux is much less of a pain, package managers are great (especially pacman) and just a non bloated system in general.

>People will tell you "werks on my machine" all the time but it's bullshit
What should I test to see if performance is truly smooth on my machine? Because it sure appears to be smooth to me.

Fuck no. Leave, paid Microsoft shill. Nobody believes your bullshit.

>Because it sure appears to be smooth to me.
I'm happy for you then (I really am) but it never was smooth to me.

>webm tangentially related

you dont have to use gnome or qt. and yes most distros are buggy as fuck pieces of shit. debian and anything debian based is pure unadulterated garbage

anyways if you really care about code correctness and lack of bugs bsd is a better choice, especially openbsd, you wont find a more correct system. for linux there is slackware, gentoo, and solus looks pretty interesting too but i havent tried it personally

>brainteaser
Literally just checking some definitions.

Which game?

Once I finished my gaming rig, I will. But until then, I'm content with my 10 year-old linux machine.

2 rupees are deposited in your account

>Once I finished my gaming rig
You won't use it for anything but shitposting.

Yes I did. After 5 years solid on Linux I moved to Windows 10 and I loved it. A year later I switched to Mac and I haven't looked back.

I'm afraid so, and HD/VR porn, I guess.

Yep. After 7 years of torturing myself with Linux I came to the realization I don't give a shit about the OS as long as it works.

I used to use Windows and I was treated to good driver support, good audio support, a wealth of games and many useful out of the box applications.
It was horrible.

I'm so glad that I use linux now. I get horrendous audio drivers, finicky awkward ways of installing applications and drivers that sometimes don't even work. And less games.
But I have that nifty UI for my programming hobbies so that makes it all worth while!

less is for quantity
fewer is for countable nouns

It's way easier to use your GPU with Tensorflow on Linux. Plus, I like developing in Vim. I use Windows on my desktop and I also have a macbook. If one becomes familiar with all OSs one also tends to sound like less of a fool!

>switching back to poodows
>ever
no

No, i switched to Linux to avoid the Windows 10 clusterfuck

Using Mint on my laptop. KDE5 is fine for the most part. My biggest problem with Windows is forced updates.

VirtualBox my friend

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
Windows is botnet and garbage OS, btw.

Runs too slow and has too many issues and overhead.

Get a good processor with many cores and good virtualization. Check on the 3D acceleration on the settings. You can at least play games that were released a few years ago.

>buggy as fuck Qt5
its the same as on windows

Attached: 1479309762117.jpg (250x196, 17K)

>Dude LOL jump tru 9999 hoops to get your game to run properly, why would you even want to run it natively and have no problems nor need to jump hoops XDXDXDXD BAKA!
Kill yourself man.

You can always just dual boot for games. Is it that hard?

If I get that, then I can run games better naively on Windows. So it will always run too slow.

>backpedaling from virtualization to dual boot
Or you can use the OS that works and there's no need to dual boot. Have you people worked a day of your lives?

Linux is perfectly good for running games. It's just that no one makes games for that platform. It's a porting issue, not an issue with the platform. Steam is making strides to make Linux a gaming OS

I prefer not to have 800 AV programs hogging up my resources and just want to script, program, web browse (shitpost), edit images and use office tools. Linux has everything I need for free. I don't play many games any more. The games I did play didn't need many resources, like Sims or old RPGs like KOTOR or Oblivion.

>free of leftie BS
Yes because the OS is actively giving you left wing propaganda ads? Oh wait no it isn't you are talking about some people's personal politics .

I use windows 10 home edition. It's the Best OS, linux is for npc incels who dont have a job.
The license was only a few hundred dollars, just get it. Not poor are you?

>Linux is only good for me because I don't need what it can't provide
You have said it, Linux has no features and induces Stockholm syndrome on its users. Cope harder, asshole.

This is a politically charged post.

Windows 10 is now rolling distro. Seems like they fired their testing team and made users testers instead. Absolutely ridiculous decision

last good windows is 8.1 with classic shell no doubt but I miss so many things from w10 like Edge, WSL, WDDM 2+

nah dude last good windows was 98. it does everything any "good distro" does today

I didn't switch back but I'm still using Windows at times because it's more polished for basic normie stuff. For anything productive there's no contest, but when it comes to just having a desktop environment that I'm deeply used to and that will just werk for pretty much anything I want to do, Windows can't be beat.
I never did try anything like Mint, but the fact that Linux was made to be CLI centric with GUI wrappers around that makes me doubt how well it would work.

Personally I don't find myself wanting that "just werks" feel too often, and I'm happy to spend most of my time staring at dwm (Internet browsing is the same in both OSes anyway), but I can definitely see the appeal - especially if you seldom do programming tasks (in systems oriented languages in particular).

Linux has plenty of power for games, but its usage is mostly commercial and nerds who either do programming, graphics, or video processing. If it had more users, more AAA studios would develop for the platform.

>Linux has plenty of power for games
But it has no games.
>nerds who either do programming, graphics, or video processing
False. People who work with graphics and video definitely do it on Windows. Linux doesn't even have the professional software that's standard in the industry. People who program also use Windows about half of the time, especially when developing Windows software. You are retarded and clearly have never worked.
>If it had more users, more AAA studios would develop for the platform.
>b-but i-in t-this hypo-te-tetical scenario L-Linux would be g-good... r-right?
You can die now. Just let it end.

>having anything by Microsoft newer than Windows 7 as 'serious' os

A lot of graphics artists use Mac, which is also Unix-based.

To truly install linux, one must learn to hate. Only through constant, daily rage directed at adobe subscription services, microsoft updates, and autodesk file formats, can you become one with mr torvalds. It is easy to use linux if the inconvenience of relearning everything is outweighed by a massive 8inch hate boner. Visualize homeless microsoft employees everyday. Laugh at the thought of unemployed google sketchup developers begging for coins with a big gulp cup. Now work towards making that a reality.

Savage cope nigga.

What's a good alternative? I tried arch and its a pain in the ass with aur

Nice larp, but nobody who goes to Linux for more than half a year would come back to windows for more than a few days.

Would it do that if you used voidtools Everything to search?

I don't care if you shill OSs that cost $100 per license. What are you going to do when the store-issued OS gets bricked and you have to do a clean re-install? Linux is superior on so many levels. Powershell is coming close to matching Bash's power.

You won't be missed.

>a university course on windows tech support
wtf? is this some standard course in pooland?

those belt drive shit became super expensive a couple years back?
what happened? it was like a 100 bucks increase or even more

>not having dualboot with win7 and a distro and using the best OS for the given task instead of choosing only one and blindly defending it like a retard

>What are you going to do when the store-issued OS gets bricked and you have to do a clean re-install?
Restore everything from the backups.
>Linux is superior on so many levels.
And vastly inferior on the few levels that matter the most.
>Powershell is coming close to matching Bash's power.
This alone shows how clueless you are. Who even uses these things? Who knows what they are? Who has even seen them? Nobody.

Can confirm, after 10 years of Linux I'm on Windows again. I still use a Linux machine at work, but all my personal devices are running Windows now and thus far it's a great experience.

WSL is pretty good and patches over any software holes i still have. I decided to learn a bit of Powershell and so far I'm very impressed, it's a well designed shell and very intuitive.

Windows 10 is such garbage and pisses me the fuck off so much that it's making me look into threads like this to find out what else is available.

Microsoft basically took the car people have been driving for 2 decades and hid the gas pedal in the glove box, put the steering wheel on the roof, put the turn signals under the seat and the ignition where the brake lights are.

Pure trash.

No. I switched to Linux in 1994 because I hated the Windows Chicago beta, and then in December of 2017 I got a mac from a friend and became a macfag. Never looking back. Well, that's not true... I refuse to buy a newer Mac so long as they keep up the meme bar shit.

I dualboot windows 7 and linux. Windows for games only. All the other software i have on both os, second life, gimp, blender all run smoother on linux, plus windows 7 is more of a hassle to install but I'll take it over windows 10 any day.
