OP here.
You won.
Mods close the thread.

gentoo + i3

I've been considering tinkering with dwm, I'm just familiar with i3 and have everything set up the way I like it. I think dwm has more of a barrier to entry.

as someone who tried i3 and quit using it after half an hour because everything about it is retarded: dwm is easy

/thread

honestly dwm is better, but I'm too lazy to convert my massive i3 config over. Also I'd have to write a lot of dmenu scripts to replace my i3 modes.
Maybe this summer

I recently (5 months) switched to dwm from i3 and i like it a lot more

Objectively better.

If I don't have any programming knowledge at all can I still use and configure DWM?

yes

>not making your one window manager using xcb and c with no nonstandard libraries
shiggydiggy

Arch and unemployment.

Slackware + Awesome

i played around with xcb, drawed a matrix of squares but then i just keept shitposting and the project is ded.
Eventually i will go back and solve the dimension compatibility and how to align everything so it looks nice

The config file is nice. I prefer DWM, but I'm not about to start telling everyone that they should use a WM where you have to compile the config in.

i3 fucking sucks
use dwm desu

Can we get a Wayland equivalent of DWM. I want my dynamic layouts, but I also hate Xorg.

Arch is shit, install Void.

He thinks the fact that the devs use the term "elitist" on the website and that changes to configuration necessitate recompiling the binary makes him a "hacker" or something.

For basic configs I think you'll be fine user. You can change colors, set defaults for windows, and it's not difficult. If you want to make big changes it's a good reason to learn too.

I know your post was a day ago but I really hope that you try it, I believe in you!

But i3 is complete trash
Use WindowMaker, it actually supports mouse

I think most people who use i3 use it specifically because it has mediocre mouse support. This compels users to use the keybindings instead, which is more efficient than using the mouse since you don't have to take your hands off the keyboard.

However, for a retro look & feel, WindowMaker is great.

>mouse support
you may as well switch to MacOS
