If it makes github more reliable, then I am all for it.
Github is pretty core to our CI process at work (including deployments), and when there's service interruptions (which are way more frequent than they should be) everything gets fucky. It's actually amazing how well their service interruptions align with milestone deployments, etc.
On a personal level I cannot fathom why anyone would feel strongly enough about github to even care about this

That does not come with code reviews, issue trackers, continuous integration, semantic indexing, etc. Of course if you aren't an actual company and are just writing FizzBuzzes in your mom's basement a simple git server will work just fine.

If you are against Microsoft then you had more than enough time to migrate to GitLab, BitBucket, etc.
If you only want to manage your repos for yourself then GitHub never was a good option (since you have to pay for private repos).
