I work for an IoT company and our devices are fully secure.

I used to work for an IoT and the products were completely insecure. I'm not actually lying.

It's much shorter.

was it root or abc?

Shorter.

Is it any worse than login credentials I have seen as username 123, password 456 or username abc, password def?

And they all are running up to date kernel and software, right?

I'm sorry about that.

What kernel and software? It's embedded devices, we write the firmware.

Yes, it was literally the empty password. i.e. you automatically get root.

did they take the x out of the passwd file for easy access?

I like IoT but I build my own devices.

Just "a" ?

'or'1='1

They don't have to be. At least not all directly Internet facing.
Tunneling and stuff can be used. It's more just the fact they're using the Internet to talk to each other or to main servers, or both.

I smiled.
