I can only imagine all the plankton that emanates from that tube once it is all warmed up.

HD58X or HE4XX

Massdrop x hifiman edition xx has been announced, no word on the price yet

damn those look nice, sadly thats gonna be another qc russian roulette an people will be angry.

If it's $600 or under I'm going in. Looks like something prime for a 3D printed fazor mod.

considering the stax 3100 set as my first electrostats, but what is this stax l300 "seal mod" i keep hearing about? is it just changing the pads? arent stax pads glued on?

how many Xs do you need?

What kinds of headphones do you wear to bed /hpg/?
I've used sony mdr 7506s and koss porta pros to no ill effect when sleeping on my side.

Has anyone tried those dodgy headbands with plastic inserts marketed as "sleep phones"?

Not gonna lie, kinda interested in this just because I don’t think that Ananda is a bad deal even at its current price, so it could be really attractive if it gets a proper price cut. Just a shame about Chifiman QC.

SHP9500 - shallow stock earpads, weak clamp so thick microseude earpads uncomfortably slide around the ears whenever my head moves. I'd rather prefer leather sticking to my skin but can leather earpads even work properly with open cans?
Pro 82 - perfectly comfortable but I want them open.

What is the THX of DACs?

I'm more worried about the comfort, the padding on the headband is barely enough for the 4xx and these drivers are heavier

Better than chinkfiman shitphones

Nobass vs bass :hard think:

The HD800S/HD800 has incredibly good bass, have you ever heard one?

Are there any on-line audio stores in the USA that ships internationally (besides Amazon)?
I'm thinking something like UK's Audio Heaven, somewhere from which you can get cables, pads, parts, mics etc.
Unrrelated pic.

DT1990>HD660

Zero sub

help can an yggy sound good enough to let me forget that i'm emotionally attached to a fictional character?

it feels lighter even though it measures heavier. there's not as much pressure on your jawline when the weight is distributed over a larger area. the hex/hek never clamped as hard as the round cup designs either. if they hit $600/650 and don't fuck with the sound then it's easily the best buy under $1k, better than a used hd800.

>So delighted that this must surely be infinitely better than you throw your old dac in a draw and forget about it

Have you tried it and came to that conclusion?

The measurements being shit is why the groupthink created plankton, an unmeasurable aspect of sound that nobody can even properly define but every single audiophool can hear it
if you want to feel good about a purchase your brain will go through however many hoops it takes to do it

By the way, why do people obsess over DAC measurements so much? I mean, people like tube amps despite the fact that it is generally known that they don’t measure as well as solid state amps and no-one has a problem with that, so why the same isn’t applied to DACs too? Even if we know the ”perfect” measurement target in the digital sense, there’s no reason to assume that it would automatically sound best to human brain.

>Never heard either
Gotcha.

Yes. Drum and bass is gross on them

That's kind of religions do with their people in power.
No you don't understand, only I can comprehend His grace!

Attached: pope-coffee.jpg (600x400, 50K)

becouse you want your source as neutral and clean as you can, if you want to add coloration to the sound do it with a tube amp, a class A amp, do opamp rolling whatever..or buy headphones with a non neutral signature. dacs should measure well to alter the sound in a controlled manner later on the chain.

Because the way we encode digital signals is based on human hearing and perception

god i wanna die looking at her.

>this headphone is objectively bad
>Have you tested?
>No, i only need graphs, what, do you actually use your ears in a an audio hobby?! What a pleb

>objectively bad

In what way? I don't see any objective measure of it's quality in that graph.

user seems to have teouble understanding how masking works, so he assumed the louder treble will affect the mids.

Parts express and brainwavz come to mind

Not everybody, Marv himself said that maybe only 10% of the people in hobby have ever truly heard plankton.

Attached: Audio G.jpg (1617x723, 698K)

Of course it does. The treble is 12db louder than the mids.
Turn up your headphone so the vocals are 90db and you get raped by 102db treble.

Because only about 10% of the people in the hobby are deluded idiots who completely fell for it and now believe different ruler-flat DACs or amps with inaudible distortion or noise sound completely differently, creating imaginary terms and hallucinating sounds to justify the money sank into it

Would a pair of Brainwavz HM5 be a good 'upgrade' from Superlux HD668(B) or would there be no significant change in sound quality?

people prefer dt990 over hd650
it's a fact

The dt990 600ohm looks rather decent here, i might get myself one after all

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitic_castration

W-www-wut?? But dt990 is cheap af.

Best Bluetooth headphones in the 200 dollars range?
ANC is not necessary.
Sennheiser has some nice looking pairs but they have ANC and that just inflates the price by a ton and I don't need it

so what? there is very low correlation between sound quality and price

sennheiser or JBL?

Sennheiser. JBL is Harmon kardon level normie BS.

Enjoying your darkphones?

Is SBAFposting the best or worst thing that has happened to /hpg/ in a long time?

I remember being young and having dreams of being strangled and not being able to breathe, I fell asleep with headphones on and the cord got wrapped around my neck. :(

You didn't introduce yourself in the proper thread. Please keep the signal to noise ratio high (but not too high, measurements don't mean anything). Remember to DM your Yggy receipt and the results of your plankton test to the mods.

Toobs...
Needs to have less room lighting for that extra lewd glow, though.

massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-hifiman-edition-xx-headphones?mode=guest_open
confirmed for $600, you're a dummy if you buy anything else in that price range

Yep, makes sense.

Enjoying my supremely dark lcd2 fazor with pic rel EQ actually.
Thinking about asking my friend to use his ebay. No reason to have two planars.

You mean always, right?
HE6, HE500, HE1000, Anada, Sundara all amazing.

You can get the srm-3100 for a bit more

>bought Sennheiser HD BT 4.40 last Friday.
>now whenever it plays any sound it emits a high pitched whine and static sound. Reminds me of tinnitus.
Is that normal for Bluetooth headphones or is this just a defective pair?
I'm considering refunding them at the store and getting Bose QC35 instead. Would they be better?
I know that most Bluetooth headphones are shit, but they seem so convenient..

>HE1000
One of the most overpriced headphones ever.

>100% plastic
>Unusable pads, add another $100
>No sub bass without modification
>paying for amp unusable with anything else, l300 no amp is like $350
>after all that theres still a chance you're someone who hates the(excuse audiophool term) 'ethereal' 'unnatural' and 'weird' sound of stats
>ESP950 better all around anyway if you're willing to change pads

No reason to have any planars when stax exists but you do you.

Skullcandy lowriders are the best headphones I've ever owned and only headphones I've bought more than one of.
Infact I was gonna buy a pair of skullcandy crushers before being persuaded to ask people who actually know about headphones
I dont remember any other headphones I've owned cause they all broke like after 2 months

op said /csg/ for cheap shit, and then you can keep wondering why they break.

double sided adhesive tape, stretch it and put it where the pads attach. there's a picture here somewhere. it's reversible and takes 5 minutes. stax pads on the newer lambdas attach on instead of glue so it has a weak seal. L700 pads have a much better seal but the L300 ones are just shit so you need to seal them or pad swap.

My lowriders where £15 and they lasted 3 years cheap doesnt necessarily mean they'll break, the only thing that ever went bad on my 2 pairs was the actual cable which was replaceable anyway

Stax are lo fi no one likes them

to add on to this you don't even necessarily need to pad swap, you can just stuff foam between the pad and the plastic holder to make the pads comfy as fuck, memory foam is even better
You can buy a sheet of it for $15, I use the stuff to get a better seal on all my headphones.

>No reason to have any planars when stax exists

one reason, price.

It's okay, just save up. You'll get there eventually.

I have $2300 in headphones iems and amp/DACs that's not the issue(although I couldn't afford to keep everything i have and then buy them, going up to $3000 in audio stuff).
not bragging btw i'm literally, objectively, a poorfag

The issue is that I called the HE500 a darkphone and now you're a bit upset, is that right? Just buy estats, honestly they're amazing headphones. We can let bygones be bygones.

Hey guys, I've had the Sony MDR-7506 for a while now, and I want different headphones now. What's similar and as good that's not Sony? Any new models? I haven't been in here for a couple of years maybe.

takstar pro 82 is what we shill these days instead of the 7506

L700 pads are rather expensive, you can get custom pads made at vesper audio
You can order whatever color and material you'd like and it'll still be cheaper

We're also shilling modded beyerdynamic COP+

The Takstars for a budget option, Beyerdynamics for a bit more luxury, depends on your budget. DT880 have been around since forever, DT1990 are a good upgrade, but are also (too) expensive.

I don't think upset is the right word. I'm a bit disappointed that you're unable to enjoy them though. I think now that you've got the rear grills off a velpad from hifiman might have them leave a better impression on you. If not then you should wait a bit longer and sell them, the headband mod should add value to them even.
I would like to be friends though, yes.

i'm going stax when i can afford l700 with a decent energizer

>with a decent energizer
that's because you are an ignorant candy ass. just get an srm-252
