Debian + KDE + Compiz

void + sway

Arch systemd

Minimal as in just barely boots: Alpine

Minimal desktop: Void

You can't have minimal GNU/Anything.

Debian GNU/Linux + dwm

Alpine is not GNU/Linux

And that's why it's great.

Alpine is a terrible distro

Gentoo

Arch

i just got around to installing xubuntu 18.10 today, because i'm not a neet and i actually have work to do. it's not minimal but it uses less resources than gnome or kde and runs quick enough. don't fall for the minimalism meme, it like building a house without power tools because "lol you don't _need_ power tools to build a house."

lightweight and minimal are not the same thing. debian/lxde uses less resources than most arch/i3 setups. ricers don't understand how linux, x11, or computers in general actually work. their idea of minimalism is massively wasteful in regard to system resources, particularly context switching and cache prefetching.

who made that image?
i recognize the art style but cant put a name to it

Debian(40mb iso netinst) + i3

Just fucking build it yourself, no distor is ever going to compare to literally picking and choosing every part.

Lol I installed Arch, i think i know a little more than Noobuntu user like you

dwm

I know you're being facetious but god damn does this trigger me, just because some fucking scrub on Jow Forums reads the step-by-step instruction guide on the arch wiki doesn't mean they understand a goddamn thing about *nix systems.

Gentoo

lol, i had the same reaction. i think it was the tone of the post that bugged me so much.
10/10 bait.

you could've gone more minimal than that
see unit193.net/xubuntu/
Xubuntu core could be comfy af

Debian Unstable. No packages.

none

all distros are bloated by definition, because if not they are just a kernel with patches.
build it your self now days you need the Kernel and systemd

Fact: Unused memory is wasted memory

mx. works great out of the box. If you have a low specced pc you ought to try. you owe it to yourself, in fact.

Fucking 1440p videos, I need the RAM to watch them.

For GNU/Linux, Slackware or Void
For *BSD, OpenBSD is great

This is one of the few Ubuntu installs that actually looks comfy. For some reason I wanna cry when looking at this, it's pretty beautiful.
What the fuck is my life?

Devuan stripped down.

CentOS minimal with no DE.

I disagree with OpenBSD. It's not intended to be customized or slimmed down, and it comes with a lot of pre installed shit too. It's focus isn't really on minimalism at all encourages against users making it so.

xubuntu

OpenBSD + dwm + st

I've been using elementaryOS since crunchbang stopped development

you can make gentoo as minimal as you want

Attached: 14e5c2cb.jpg (630x630, 48K)

debian netinstall + awesomewm, or devuan netinstall if you're autistic about systemd

You can make any OS minimal when it won't start and you get a black screen.

Thats a fair point you make, but when it comes down to it all of that code is audited and it uses so little resources that it makes up for it.

low iq post

xubuntu stripped to hold compiz standalone / openbox - if systemd, or if not systemd than void + runit /gentoo + openrc with compiz standalone/openbox.

my minimal OS boots to black screen, yet fully functional, start up is 200mb ram.

Manjaro installed using their architect installer. Installed the base stuff and i3 after. Uses 160mb memory with a few terminals open.

kewl.
Now I need you to edit this document and save it as a layered pdf and also as a word document. Once you've done that I need you to email it via your exchange address to the rest of the team.

Could you also post it onto the office cdn via the web interface.

Cheers.
And, no i don't have time to wait for you to google how to's for all that on lynx on a tty1 system.....

Definitely void gnu/Linux with dwm.
Best combo ever.

Soo... you run a minimalist system/ just so you can run a bloated kvm vm?

Riiiight.

This

On rare occasions I use a VM on my spare laptop.

>"lol you don't _need_ power tools to build a house."
I don't like power tools because I have autism and can't stand loud noises. I could build a house by hand.

>debian/lxde uses less resources than most arch/i3 setups

Yes

Very compelling arguments you got there, bro.

Fact: Wasted memory is useless.

Fact: Time wasted waiting for a fucking application to open because you're a ramlet who can't even into opening your box/laptop to chuck an extra stick in there is wasted time you'll never get back....

Well, it generally is.

Short of making your own from scratch, Slackware is pretty much your best bet. There are more minimal distros of course that are designed for embedded stuff or USB stick installs, but Slackware is far more suitable for home desktop or server use. You choose exactly what packages you want on install and there's not systemd. It's also suitably stable so you can rest assured the extra setup won't go to waste, an install should last you years.

That's my desktop background
