why haven't you librebooted/corebooted you thinkpad yet?

I got a problem with my x220. It doesn't sleep when I close the laptop, and when I force it to sleep the screen will often start flashing on and off and lag (probably because of rapid connects/disconnects) the system. When it's sleeping, the moon light on the top doesn't light up.

Any idea on where to start? Gonna open it up and make sure the screen is attached properly, but has anyone else had a problem like this?

Is this the person you want writing your firmware?
blog.vimuser.org/littleleah.html

Too retarded to and I don't have the equipment. I would if I could though.

>he uses the x30 models

I'm considering buying a x230 for school and to upgrade from my x131e.

How big a difference will I feel from a celeron 1007u 1.5 Ghz dual core to a i5-3320 2.6 Ghz dual core? Can I move my 4gb ram over to the x230? I'm not sure if they are compatible.

I already have an ssd that I was planning on using for my new laptop so I don't care for the hard drive.

i'm thinking 125-175 is a good price point for a x230 right?

As long as the code is good, I don't care who writes it.

The TrackPoint is a pressure-sensitive device that allows you to move the cursor around without moving your hands from the keyboard. I don’t have any use for it, and I always ended up using the touchpad.
Who actually still needs TrackPoint?

Attached: TheVergeStrikesAgain.jpg (951x631, 145K)

keep telling yourself that faggor

Are there any inherent downsides to using an SSD in the WWAN card slot?

Attached: bd3cc0581c35ef85e83279f4d96d6102.jpg (800x1199, 215K)

The trackpoint has ruined me and I dont think I could ever buy another computer without it

Same, I'll never own a laptop without one. As long as they make them obviously.

I'm not a greasy basement neckbeard who can waste 20 hours on something with no real purpose just to brag about it on an anonymous board.

I love it, it's much more fluid and accurate than a trackpad.

ITT: Jow Forums once again proves it is simply right-winged tumblr.

He's referring to that retarded Verge niggers latest Thinkpad review. It's the same fucking moron who did the PC build video.
theverge.com/2018/10/26/18019002/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-extreme-review-the-right-mix-of-work-and-fun

He can't even use the trackpoint properly and calls it outdated He must be sucking someone importants cock to still have that job?

That you can't use an WWAN card in the WWAN card at the slot?

Where is the best to shop? eBay shipping to Canada is robbery, and I have to pay taxes.

On the point of price: Is it best to grab a T440p with lower out-of-the-box specs, and then upgrade it yourself, or pay a higher price?

Do they make 1TB hard drives for the thinkpad t420, and is it worth it?
No, I don't want SSD

Yes, you want an SSD.

The T420s has a 7 mm drive, I somehow think 1TB drives would be thicker. Not sure though.

If you want to buy within your country restrict your search on eBay to "Canada only" or whatever. I'm guessing you guys also have Craigslist, so there's also that.

As for the price thing: it depends on what deals you can get vs what you plan to do with it. If you're going to quad core it anyway, just find whatever is cheapest and in good cosmetic condition.

Literally just any fucking 1TB 2.5'' HDD, yes.
>I don't want SSD
Your loss, dumbo. You could literally have both in the T420 without any sacrifices and SSDs are pretty cheap these days.

What kind of RAM do I need for an X200?
I know it's:
>DDR3
found out in the last thread that DDR3L means low voltage
>PC3-8500
don't know if that includes PC3-8500s (no idea what "s" means)
>1066 Mhz
don't know if that's the only possible option
>8GB max
>SO-DIMM
but how many pins?
and what the hell is "Non-Parity (NP)"

Attached: 1507295761446.png (485x443, 26K)

Literally any 8GB (2x4GB) 1066MHz kit will work fine.

Well, what I'm thinking of doing is upgrading later. Thing is that I realize the 4700-mq is no longer produced, and will become less and less available over time. I did a quick search and these things seem to go for 100$ CAD, which is more than the additional price to buy the last 4700-mq equipped T440p that sold on eBay.

What I've got in mind is that I'm trying to keep it under 300$ (or close to) CAD. Domestic resellers know you get cut on shipping and paying sales tax on imported items, so they ask for shit like 400$ CAD+

post your memepad desktop

Attached: 2018-10-30-1540953364.png (1920x1080, 1.74M)

My x201 is doing the same and I couldn't find the option on Windows to allow that.

You could always buy from the US with the Global Shipping Programme to avoid all the customs paperwork non-sense. Or hop over the border to have one shipped to a hotel over a weekend or something.

hey, Luke

excuse me

I'm pretty sure it has to have the correct number of pins...
Just trying to make sure I don't have yet another situation where I think I'm getting the right thing, it fucks up, and someone goes
>Of course, you fucking retard, that's because it's a 77LA7, not a 77IA7. kys

>He must be sucking someone importants cock to still have that job?
I think it's literally just him being black and somewhat articulate.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If I have a friend in hong kong, can they get me an x210/x62, or t70 for really cheap?

Yeah, it's an X230 faggot. Nitrocaster mod incoming.

I bought a thinkcentre M92p (the small form factor one) recently and it works great except when the HDD is active it's loud as shit and I don't know if it's because I have the PC sitting horizontally instead of vertically (it's clearly designed to sit both ways but horizontal seems optimal), because the HDD is about to die, or because that's just normal when you cram a 7200RPM drive into a small case like that. anyone have one of these things?

It's not terribly interesting

Attached: Kuvakaappaus 2018-10-31 04-59-11.png (1600x900, 1.06M)

DDR3 SO-DIMMS only come in 204 pin.

Oh... Thanks user!

>using a plebbit pad in the first place

xfce is looking pretty good these days...
I can't bring myself to switch back from i3 though. I just don't feel like relearning shortcuts and it would drive me crazy having to mouse around and click through to get to/adjust things now.

that's cinnamon tho

>classic keyboard compatible
>ivy bridge
>lightweight as fuck
>highly moddable
are you retarded?

g'night anons

I have an X220 and recently smashed the middle of the keyboard out of frustration...
>inb4 tard rage
The computer shutdown immediately but nothing externally was broken. I have disassembled the whole laptop and only found one busted resistor. Is it possible to find a schematic, find the part number, order the piece, and replace it or is it feasible to buy a new board?

love it when they get defensive.

I ain't defensive. You just a dumb nig.

it's fucking retards like this who can't read sarcasm that ruined this fucking website

You bought a redditpad.
imagine being that dumb and susceptible to memes

Not a hoard, but:

>T60 with a Core Duo, Ati graphics, 1400x1050, 3GB ram
bought in late 2009 for 450 eur, at some point put in an SSD and upped the ram to 3 gigs, currently has a blotchy screen and bad battery and serves as the bathroom computer

>T420s, i5 2520m, 8GB, 1600x900, ultrabay battery
bought in late 2014 for 440 eur, immediately put in an SSD and upped the ram to 8 gigs, currently stationed on the living room table but also has Windows VMs for car diagnostics

I've been thinking of upgrading again to something more portable like an X1 Carbon or a Zenbook, but we'll see

meant to reply to you too

Reminder for the niggers that keep saying it's hard or impossible to get mutlimonitor working on nvidia models with linux.
Here ya go. Connected through VGA with compositing running too.
It's worth it for the much better shader support in retroarch and being able to run basically any video file I come across.

Attached: 2018-10-29-1540870528.png (926x964, 254K)

That’s actually wrong it has to be dual rank

Just make sure its dual rank(2rx8) ram

It's a little more complicated than that. The Shipping Programme has insane prices (CAD 50$ on a CAD 150$ laptop is something I saw when looking at the t440s). I also have to pay an "import fee" through eBay's programme, which is bizarre, because we don't charge import fees on most privately shipped goods. Lastly, I have to pay sales tax on the marked value of the imported item, per Canadian law.

I used to maintain a PO box in Vermont, but I don't have a car and I wasn't buying enough stuff to make it worth skipping taxes/shipping.

>got a t430 for cheap
>now thinking I should have gone for a t440p
fug

You can't get the good keyboard on the T440. You did good, user.

montreal.craigslist.ca/sys/d/8se4-buy-certified-laptop/6690611300.html These are local prices. Shit's fucking terrible.

My new Thinkpad came with Windows 10 installed.

Should I keep it and run dual-boot? Do any of you have a reason to keep windows installed?

Oh. For us anons in yurop, GSP actually works pretty great for ordering from outside of the EU. Basically it just handles all the paperwork and fees for you, getting the package to you sooner, with only a small markup for it. It's pretty good value, IMHO. Good luck on your Thinkpad quest, mapple syrup user.

If you're gonna have windows, it might as well be 7. Or XP if it's an old enough machine, but yours clearly isn't.

But if you don't need windows for anything then yeah, nuke it.

Only for updating the UEFI, but you shouldn't mess with those unless you have issues. Go ahead and delet.

That does actually make me feel better. I guess I didn't realize the 440 was stuck with the shitty keyboard.

>not getting a t420 with coreboot and a i7 3840qm
baka

Why would I want to do that

because you get a superior keyboard without doing a shitty mod

Frankly, it's pretty fucking bullshit buying anything electronic or photographic in Canada.

dude quad core i7 on the T420 heatsink sucks balls battery life sucks ass and shit gets hot aha fuck you

Use Kijiji you fucking retard. If you check often enough you'll find good shit.

I got a T480s with 4year warranty for $700 cad from a pajeet in Kijiji

>>T420/T430 - 14", 900p, widely available, socketed CPU, both Coreboot-compatible (Ivy Bridge CPU support on T420); Quad Core Compatible, Old keyboard swap on *30 series
>Old keyboard swap on *30 series
Does this mean I could put my T410s keyboard on my T430? (idk if I would, honestly, I kind of like the newer keyboards)

Maybe in a more competitive market with lots of input from the states, like Toronto. I'm in Montreal, dude. Quebec's shit.

Is oy possible to add non-thinkpad trackpad to the x230, one with the buttons at the bottom?

*it

Have you tried cleaning the fan?

RAM is not compatible. You should feel a slight difference. Look out for a genuine battery.

Insane prices even in leaf money.

As far as I know only the t420 keyboard is compatible

Will get my T480 soon and I want to upgrade 8gigs of ram that it comes with to 16. Is the MHz speed the thing that I have to look for in ddr4 ram? Like a 2400 will be better than a 2133?

There's really no reason to not get fastest ram that laptop supports, just go for 2400mhz.

Got it. Thanx!

X220 is Wistron Dasher-1, X220t is Wistron Comet-1, might use same layout as X220. Either way, check that you get the right schematic for the board. In case someone needs the info, X230 and X230t are Wistron Dasher-2 and Wistron Comet-2 respectively

Does it go to a sleep when you close lid when you're in bios? It maybe mechanical issue, there is a sensor and magnet in screen bezel and next to the touch pad, check if they work properly.

I like it. You can move the cursor without moving your hands off the keyboard also it works as a scroll when you press middle touchpad button.

someone stole my backpack last month with my thinkpad and a 1000eu ipad pro i used for taking notes in class

my condolences (not for the ipad pro)

Attached: 1523312163921.png (800x473, 29K)

Need to buy soic8 clip.

>X230. i7 3520M, 8GB, SSD, perfect condition. Will Coreboot once I obtain a flash clip and have time.
>T510. i5 520M, 4GB, HDD, decent condition. Ported Coreboot to it (got ROM to compile), will flash once I get a clip.
>X200s. Screen is fucked. Will order another one screen and eventually Libreboot it.

I was able to use my T510 keyboard on my X230 with a little bit of filing on the tabs. So I'd say yes.

I wanted to but I don't have the equip and doing it is a waste of time anyways

>What is your ideal laptop/ screen size? Why?

For me it's 12-14 inches, I need my laptop to be mobile and roughly that size is the best compromise for me, currently using T480s as my main laptop.

Yea I'm curious too. I'm currently using a 15.6" laptop but I'm thinking of starting to get into thinkpads and get a x230 to mess around with. But I'm afraid that the small screen makes me not want to use it much later :/

Attached: 1530369004761.png (325x575, 200K)

Best place to look for thinkpads in Yurop?

Why legs are censored? Is this some kind of asian porn?
