Would making old videos/pictures unrecoverable damage my sectors on the sd card?

On Linux, what you would do is invoke an arcane console command that can soft-brick your computer if you type it wrong.
On Windows, you google "file shredder" and pray to Odin, the god of magic, that what you download isn't malware.
I haven't used a Mac made this century, but I assume what you'd do there is take it to the Apple store and have the clerk wipe the files for you for $199.
